In 0-04, Frozen Fingers of Midnight, there is an interesting exception noted that gold can be added to the Max Gold on the chronicle sheet if a certain NPC is killed. Since GMs now have the option of selecting any boon on the sheet, do they have the option of taking that extra gold?
If so, I assume that prohibits the taking of the actual boon printed on the sheet for rescuing said character ... but has there been a note that GMs can't pick conflicting boons? The Guide says "The GM may select any special boons bestowed by a Chronicle sheet, such as free magical treasure, regional boons, or future bonus die rolls" (emphasis mine), so as written, it would seem I could do both.
Thoughts?

I believe that the special reward option is NOT allowed to GMs and they must take the printed boon. That special reward is not on the chronicle sheet for a reason, reflecting a specific and complicated plot situation. If it were simply a choice, both would be listed on the chronicle with an instruction to cross out the unused boon.
Disclaimer: Despite VC status, this is NOT an official ruling. Mike and/or Mark have the final say, but if they don't say, this is how I'm running it.
Further Disclaimer: I ran this before GM's got boons, and got neither option. So, other than dealing with organizational issues, I really don't have a dog in this fight.

I'm hip to the idea of not allowing conflicting boons; that seems like a very fair requirement. But it should be officially noted, if that's the case.
Re: the gold, I concur that it's not a boon on the sheet, but it's also a unique case, as far as I know. And it's scenario #4, so it was very early in the process, when they were still figuring out what went where. So I would argue that it might also be an exception to this rule. But I've emailed Mike to see if he'll weigh in. There's no rush; this is going on a GM PC that won't be in play for quite some time.

It is a PFS Scenario.
Those early days were a lot more freeform than the standards we have in place today.
Which is another way of saying "Yes, they would get the extra gold."
As Nefreet said, this was a Season 0 scenario. There was a lot less formalized structure as the campaign was still figuring out exactly what it was going to be. Several scenarios had rewards (or negatives) that are outside the bounds that were later normalized. But since they are still legal to play and have not been updated you should give the rewards as written.
Nine of the Season 0 scenarios had problems to such a degree that they are no longer legal to play for PFS credit.
