Alternative Ranged Weapon for an Alchemist Bomber

So I am playing an alchemist bomber (grenadier) and was looking for a good alternate to my bombs. I would prefer to not do a bow/crossbow and would prefer another thrown weapon. Regretfully Quick Draw does not work for alchemical weapons (sigh) so that's out of the question. Any suggestions?

As a note we are playing thru Carrion Crown (wrapping up the second book currently)if that helps at all.


Well alchemists only have simple weapon prof. so that limits the selection a bit. If you dont want a bow/xbow then that leaves pretty much slings or javelins. Id recommend javelins personally, they have a 30ft range for a d6 although the sling does have a better range. Ofcourse slings cost and weigh nothing so carry one anyway, you can always pick up stones if you have to.


I am a constant player of a grenadier and I generally choose a martial thrown weapon, one that can get higher criticals, and using something like a sling for longer ranges


You have 2 ranged attacks per round (3 next level). Assuming 3~5 rounds of combat per encounter, you can carry 3-5 pre-loaded Flask Throwers for 75-125g, and I'd get a few extra since you'll be dropping those after every shot. It's -4 to-hit for non-proficiency, but it's vs touch AC. Shoot hybridized flasks of Acid + Burst Jars against things that matter. Expensive, but satisfying. Launching Crossbows do the same thing and are cooler IMO, but more expensive. If you want a martial option that's actually thrown that does the same thing you have Syringe Spears, but that's more expensive gold-wise and not against touch AC. Note that you can use Alchemical weapon on this stuff too.

Scatter Weapons + Alchemical Weapon is another good combo. Keeping a culverin on-hand for those occasions where it's practical is golden, even if you never get off more than one shot (they are heavy and expensive, so I wouldn't carry a lot of them).

For actual thrown weapons, the objectively "best" one is either the Rope-Dart or the Double Chained Kama because it has free returning in such a way that you can full attack with the same weapon, but both of those have a hardcap on their range.

A Crystal Chakram is interesting entirely because it can be enchanted like ammunition.

That said, you do have Throw Anything. Nothing but weight and money stop you from throwing Falchions or even improvised weapons like table legs.

Also, don't forget the humble net. Sometimes a net is the absolute best thing you can throw.
