The coordinator can download a set of 10 PFS numbers(they can get more at one time by contacting paizo). The numbers come with confirmation codes that the players will then have to enter when they add their new PFS# to their Paizo account.
If you use this method I would suggest making two copies of each PFS# card. Have the player put his name on both, and then have then give you the second copy. This way if the player loses the card before adding the PFS# to his account you still have a copy of his confirmation code.
Other coordinators, that use HeroLab to help new players make their first characters, will add the PFS# and the confirmation code to the profile, so it will appear on the character sheet.

If you go the the "GM/Event Coordinator" tab on your "My Pathfinder Society" page, there should be a link that says something like "Download 10 Pathfinder Society Numbers". Click there and give it a few seconds. It will then reserve a set of 10 numbers. Click it again to download the cards. You can then print them out to hand out.

Just as a note: That button doesn't show up until you have an event registered =)I looked and looked before I had my first event on the calendar and couldn't find one. I finally called to figure out what was wrong, the nice guy helped me figure out the problem. I booked my event and there it was. Good luck to you and your group =)
