1 person marked this as a favorite.

One thing I've noticed is that if I mark one of my own posts as a favorite, it ends up on both my Favorites list (which makes sense) and on my Favorited by Others list (which makes less sense). Is there a rationale behind why it shows up in both places?

Think of "favorited by others" as "posts you wrote which have been favorited." The "by others" part is more to help distinguish the two tabs than to precisely define its contents.

I guess that makes sense. Why it came to mind for me:

I use my favourites list as sort of a set of bookmarks for posts I might want to refer to in the future. So from time to time I'll search for an old post of mine so that I can link to it from another thread, and I'll sometimes add it to my favourite list at the same time (to save myself the effort of searching for it again in the future).

Then, a number of days later I'll notice that I have another Favorited by Others post, so I go searching through the list of posts trying to figure out which one has been newly marked as a favourite. And -- lo and behold! -- it was me marking my own post. :-)

This has happened to me two or three times so far. :-)

Maybe I'd be better off creating a List, but clicking on that "+" button is just so quick and easy!

EDIT: The other thing that sometimes confuses me for a second is that the "Favorites" list is sorted by the date you marked it as a favorite, but the "Favorited by Others" list is sorted by the date of the post.

What if the List button had a little arrow and dropped down a list of all your lists, so you could directly add it to the appropriate list? Or at least an on-page dropdown like the Report button has.
