Core Rulebook Spine's Binding

Customer Service

Wow, okay, this forum has a lot of subforums. Truth be told, I did look all over so I hope this is the right place to form this issue. The help subforum seemed to refer only to purchases on this site, so that's no help to me either.

Anyway, has anyone else had had any issue with the spine's binding of the Core Rulebook. A couple of my friends whom I have talked to have said they've had similar circumstances, where the spine seems for lack of a better term loose. It's able to move from side to side all too easily and I fear for both the quality and general survivablility of the product.

I'm just curious if anybody has noticed the same issue, and if they have any suggestions for repairing the spine so it stays more put.

I bought mine when the book first came out (at Gencon), and having suffered through the Conan OGL 2E core book printing and the fact that it came apart into its individual quires, I asked the folks at the Paizo booth how theirs were holding up-- since I was certain they'd had theirs in hand longer.

Fast forward to now, and it's still in decent shape, but I also don't beat the hell out of it. It's a little knocked around, but I think its in good shape. On the upside, they seem willing to do reprints, which is encouraging.

Mine is cool (had it since day one etc...)

It's a bit knocked about from travelling in the bag but it's held up fine.

Anytime you have a large book with 400+ pages this is going to happen with regular use. I treat my book very well, but the pages are still loosened from the spine and sag a bit in the center when the book stands on a bookshelf.

Short of binding the things like school textbooks (which would prove way too expensive) the only other option is to have fewer pages in the books and that's not something that's going to be a popular solution.

Our first edition's spine is still being held together with tape. Not as badly though as someone else in our group though.

I picked up a Bestiary 3 when it came out at my store and when I opened it up the glue ripped the front couple of pages up.

I bought mine roughly september '09. I carried it around with me for a little over a year, to and from gaming and using it there. It is utterly trashed and I keep IMMACULATE care of all my books. I have no other books that are falling apart that badly, not even my 3.0 and 3.5 PHBs which I used constantly during their eras. The CRB is just too big for its britches.

Yea, what Meatrace said. 1ed is totaled, having some of the same problems APG and Bestiary 1, rest of the products holding up fine.

My 1st ed book used often is still in extremely good condition. BUT it does not get transported every where like one in my group who's spine has come completely apart. he got his book a few weeks after me but he transports his book and I do not as we game at my house.

BUT I will add i worry that it will happen

My first Core Rulebook's spine was toast. I recently donated that to a player and bought a 5th printing, which, being brand new, has held up fine so far.

I don't abuse my books, I just think the CRB is too big for its own britches. I'm curious to see how the Tome of Horrors will hold up in comparison.

Funny you should mention that, as that is what I had to do to my CRB 1st print. I had trouble with it within the first 2 months of having, I baby it for two more years then when the cover was just held on only by the "in sheets". At that point I put on the shelf and started using a printed PDF for the table and My netbook. So six months ago I talk to my boss at the book binding plant(we do school text and library books) to see if I could get it rebound. I got an employee discount so it wasn't to expensive, now when I'm at FNGS others ask why the cover is darker on my book then it is on their copy.

I retired my 1st Edition book and bought two 3rd ed in it's place one for home use the other for travelling..both are in good condition still
