Which animals are cleared for wild shaping?

I can't find any description af the animals or resources available for wild shaping. I would presume that indicates that everything is available. On the other hand animal companions can only be chosen from bestiary one.

Is it okay to use animals from adventure paths and Bestiary 2, as well as the ones from bestiary 1?

Unless it's listed in the Additional Resources, the only legal animals in PFS are those listed in the original Bestiary. I'll mention adding Bestiary 2 (and 3, when it comes out) to the Additional Resources to the rest of the campaign staff.

If you look in the Additional Resources all that is available from bestiary 1 is animal companions, familiars and feats in relation to other sources. All I mean is that it is lacking a reference to wild shaping unless all or nothing is legal.

Thanks for the quick reply and for asking about the other bestiaries. We have been playing by Bestiary 1 only so far.

From Additional Resources:

"Pathfinder RPG Bestiary
Animal Companions: ankylosaurus, aurochs, brachiosaurus, dire bat, dire rat, dolphin, elasmosaurus, electric eel, elephant/mastodon, frog, goblin dog, hyena, monitor lizard, moray eel, octopus, orca, pteranodon, rhinoceros, roc, squid, stegosaurus, triceratops, and tyrannosaurus; Familiars: all familiars listed on pages 131–133; Feats: none of the feats are legal for play for PCs, animal companions, or familiars unless specifically granted by another legal source."

I would say that if the base creature isn't legal, then you can't wild shape into it. If it is legal in Additional Resources, and you are otherwise able to use it for the wild shape ability, then you can wild shape into that animal.

You can shape into anything you want to that fits within the description for the level of spell your wildshape emulates. However the spell description is the pool of abilities and modifiers that your wildshape can draw from. You get nothing else besides that.

This of course will be limited by what your GM says that you can be familliar with. If you've never seen a particular animal, she's within rights to veto it as a choice.

I think the Core book says that all creatures of the "animal" type are legal for wild shape. And seeing how there is no mention of that part of the core rules not being allowed in the "Additional Resources", I would guess then that any creature of the "animal" type would be legal as long as it is not explicitly listed as not legal for a given product.

They have left lists like this open ended in the past to include future products without needing to add new stuff. I don't see any reason not to think this is what they are doing.

You are correct, except that if the source is not legal for PFS, then you cannot use the animals within it.

I'm currently working on updating the Additional Resources for release later this month. The update will include:

Bestiary 2
Adventure Path #51: The Hungry Storm
Faiths of Corruption
Lands of the Linnorm Kings

One I get those up there, we should be caught up with Additional Resources and I will be able to add Bestiary 3 in a more timely fashion when it is released. Please be patient with me another few weeks and I promise to get Bestiary 2 and the other books updated.

Thank you, Michael. I eagerly await to finalize a list of what I can and cannot Wild Shape into during Society play.

Just remember: if you wish to use an animal from Bestiary 2 once it is added to the Additional Resources, you are responsible for bringing a copy to the session.

I am hoping the Bestiary 2 gets cleared on the additional resources before NeonCon! Lot of good Animals in there!

One thing I'll ask for Bestiary 2 is a list of new possible summons if possible, especially the elementals if nothing else. It would be fun to have a whole list of new ones to be added on the Summon Monster/Nature's Ally though!!

Don't know if this is possible, but it would be pretty nice if it can be!

While I agree this could be quite fun, I'm not holding my breath. This seems something Paizo might publish in a forthcoming book.
