City stat blocks and ship rules

4th Edition

Hey all,

Do any 4E rulebooks describe city stat blocks? I didn't see anything about them in the original DMs guide but I don't have access to any of the newer or electronic stuff.

Same question with ship rules (movement, capacities, crew, hit points, etc...). Again nothing in the DMs guide that I saw but I'm guessing something released later on might have this info.

Thanks.

4e doesn't have a demographic system like 3rd edition, so there's really not any rules for city stat blocks. Vehicle rules are in the Adventurer's Vault.

Out of curiousity what 3, or 3.5 source, had provisions for city stat blocks? The first time I heard of it was for D20 modern gamma world.

The DMG had details for settlements of all sizes (gp assets, populations, alignment, etc..) and whenever a settlement came up in a published product they would provide the stat block containing this info.

I've seen that sort of thing crop up in a few books (I remember noticing it in manual of the planes, for example), but I'm not sure if it is consistent across all of the setting books and other products as well.

Hmm... looking at the DMG, I think 152-153 would be where to take a look, actually. It has the appropriate info for villages vs towns vs cities. It looks like it is the same format I've seen in other products, specifically:

-Population
-Government
-Defense
-Commerce
-Organizations

I think I've also seen key locations listed in the stat blocks as well.

It isn't really a stat block in the mechanical sense, but it does give the guidelines for how many people are in a city, how the city is run, how well it can defend itself, what type of goods are available, and pretty much all the key bits of info needed for the place. I'm guessing that is what you are looking for, so hope this helps!
