Winter War 2009 Wrap Up

I just want to thank everyone that came to Winter War this year in Champaign, Illinois. We had a great time, and I got to see a lot of new faces. A few had played a few times before, and some had never played a Pathfinder Society game at all.

We scheduled six session at Winter War, but I only go to run five of the six, since the mid day slot on Saturday had four players signed up, but only two actually showed up for the session. It was a bit of a disappointment, since I had to cancel the session, and one of those players had come all of the way from Michigan, but unfortunately there wasn't much we could do.

Of the six sessions I ran, they broke down like this:

Friday Night, The Third Riddle: 5/6 players

Saturday Morning, Stay of Execution: 6/6 players

Saturday Afternoon, The Third Riddle: Cancelled

Saturday Evening, The Prince of Augustana: 6/6 players

Sunday Morning, Stay of Execution: 4/6 players

Sunday Afternoon, The Many Fortunes of Grandmaster Torch: 6/6 players

Stay of Execution and The Prince of Augustana were probably the most popular adventures, and in addition to picking up some people that had never played before, I did hear some interest from a few players about running Pathfinder Society games back in their regular "home territories."

At any rate, I'd like to thank everyone that showed up to play, as we had a great time, and everyone at the Winter War staff, who put on a great convention, and of course, my FLGS that let me run this on a monthly basis and happened to be at the show as one of the dealers, Armored Gopher Games.

and i thank you for bringing it all alive for us and making it the best time i had this weekend. THANK YOU!! (HOSARI THANK YOU TOO, need more time to get better bow, look forward to our next session).

I was that player who came down from MI and as far as I was concerned it was no big deal. I had a great time at the con and really enjoyed playing Stay of Execution.

I look at it this way it just gives me a a chance for my monk to blow easy rolls (+16 to Grapple and I still miss) at Doug's table at Bash Con.

I played both tables on Sunday and had a great time. The numbers are perhaps a little better than was posted here, because I heard of a few additional people that were interested in playing Pathfinder Society, but couldn't register because the tables were full and registered for something else instead. That is, some of the 6 player tables might've been able to break out into 2 tables of 4 or more each, if there was another judge on hand.

I also think that KnightErrantJR deserves special thanks for spending the entire convention running Pathfinder Society events.

Thanks much!

KnightErrantJR did an excellent job all weekend long. I played in all four of the scenarios that he offered, and was never disappointed in the quality of his DMing.

Regarding the individual adventures, I would have preferred more opportunities for roleplaying in Third Riddle. It seemed more "delvey" than the others. (And the Chelaxian Druid, Brother Elias will be forever punishing himself for having disappointed his Magistrix. The tone of her later faction letters was distinctly cooler, which he attributes directly to her displeasure at his failure.)

As a player, I wanted to say that at tables of 5 and 6 people, the combats were less than challenging. I would hope that future adventures might scale combat for the number of players. (In "The many fortunes...", my character had low initiative rolls for the first two encounters, and combat was over before he even had a chance to act.

Thank you for the kind words everyone, and I had a great time running these sessions for all of you guys. I had a lot of really great players and it was a lot of fun to see the new and different faces at the table.

Edit: Also, for anyone that read some of my critiques of the adventures that I ran, I just wanted to point out that I enjoyed all of these, although The Many Fortunes of Grandmaster Torch had a few sticky issues with it. I enjoyed all of these, and all of these were high quality adventures, I simply wanted to take the chance to point out some issues that came up while the event was fresh in my mind.

It was especially interesting to see the different approaches that the parties took in Stay of Execution which I ran twice, and I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get to see how a different party approached The Third Riddle.

I really enjoy running these events, and I want to than Paizo as well for setting up the Pathfinder Society as wonderful Organized Play experience.

And I want to throw in that for WW37 (January 29-31, 2009), we would like to see more Pathfinder Society events being run, but we need judges willing to run them.

And I want to thank you for stepping up and running those games!

Would anyone in this thread like to help support Pathfinder at Diecon this year? Support either as a player or a GM is welcome, and the convention is in Collinsville, IL(near St. Louis) June 5-7.

The site for the con is http://diecon.realitygamingco.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=fro ntpage&Itemid=68

We're also on Warhorn at http://www.warhorn.net/Diecon9/

Thanks a lot for your help.
