The first of these books is Tsalkaean’s Bestiary, a book written in Undercommon that grants a +2 circumstance bonus on Knowledge (dungeoneering) checks to identify aberrations and oozes and is worth 200 gp.

Tall, slender and with the inescapable air of a scholar, Zane would blend into any academic setting were it not for the unnatural intelligence in his eyes, analyzing and measuring everything he looks at with such open fascination as to make those around him feel naked.

His dark hair usually well groomed, his clothing stylish without being excessive, he is the very personification of attention to detail.

Background

The son of a Cleric of Nethys who also served as temple Librarian, Zane was raised with a burning hunger for knowledge and a refusal of accepting what others saw as common knowledge. As soon as he was able, he sought the study of magic, taking him away from his home to study at the greatest schools within reach.

Zane's concepts and ideas on magic have always made him a bit of an outcast, in fact were it not for his undeniable brilliance, his theories would have had him ejected from the Acadamae in Korvosa.

Facinated with powerful magical phemomena as the manifestation of superieor will and awareness, his travels soon took him to Riddleport to experience the legendary Blot. While a deeply intellectual man, his intensity and somewhat imposing eccentricity has kept him out of the worst trouble the dangerous city has to offer, his obvious genius hinting towards dangerous knowledge that has so far deterred those who prefer to prey upon the hapless.

Much of the book seems to be a ledger of sorts that lists all of the money Saul had been funneling to her, along with several notes of what that money was spent on (mostly alchemical supplies, spell components, and exotic food to be shipped to "Devil’s Elbow"—these shipments were always made at night and by different sailors from whom Depora was
careful to hide her true nature).
Most of the book seems to be a list of all of the strange and exotic weather effects and other unusual phenomena that have occurred in Riddleport over the past several months. All of these, including the Blot itself, are indicated in the journal as “strange and eldritch side effects from the charging of the glyphs on Devil’s Elbow,” and that “It would do to further refine the glyphs to minimize such blatant displays lest the enemy receive further warning of the impending apocalypse than we wish to reveal.”
The journal goes on to theorize that as soon as the “glyphs are activated and the star is plucked,” the strange side effects such as the shadow in the sky should vanish immediately. The last journal entry indicates that Depora suspects that this event could occur as soon as tonight.
