Cypharis, the eternal adventurer
Vestige level: 1
Binding DC: 15
Special requirement: no
Legend: Cypharis was a powerful rogue, scout, and adventurer for hire in the age of the Xoltec Empire. After discovering a strange mirror in an ancient ruin, he impulsively pressed his hand to the glass. The mirror, a pre-Xoltec relic, drew his soul from his body and imprisoned it in the space between the planes. Upon discovery, Cypharis’ lifeless shell was presumed dead, and buried. Cypharis, without a mortal body to return to, wanders the space between planes, looking for a willing host that would allow him to experience the material world once more.
Sign: Your eyes become black and pupil-less, and your fingers elongate by slightly over an inch.
Influence: You become arrogant and impulsive, making split-second decisions based on instinct alone. Cypharis relished life, and anyone binding him finds themselves looking for thrills, and generally not worrying about anything, living in the moment.
Granted abilities: You gain some of the mortal Cypharis’ skill with traps and locks, as well as the ability to wield some of his favorite weapons.
Rogue’s Friend: You gain Disable Device as a class skill when Cypharis is bound. Treat as if one had four ranks in this skill. The -2 penalty to opening locks without a proper pick is negated as long as Cypharis is being bound.
Sprint: You gain +10 to your base land speed.
Cypharis’ Weaponry: You gain the benefits of the MWP: short sword; MWP: handaxe; and MWP: kukri feats.
Background:
Spoiler:
Born into a wealthy Opaline noble family, Vilya Arami was sheltered for much of her childhood, given anything she desired except the privilege of leaving the manor. Finally, at age fourteen, Vilya managed to escape by faking her own death by suicide- she bribed the court wizard into creating a false corpse that has since been buried in the family plot.
Freedom was intoxicating, especially anything involving risk- theft, combat, the chase, exploration. After living as a cutpurse on the streets of Opal, she joined the Red Whirlwind, a lower-class sword circle specializing in two-weapon combat. Her rise through the ranks of the sword circle was nothing short of remarkable, achieving the rank of Master by her eighteenth birthday, and gaining control of the guild (which she renamed the Circle of the Black Flag) by her twentieth. She grew bored, however, and left the circle, deciding to take up adventuring as a tomb robber.
It was six months into her tomb-robbing career when she discovered the Mirror of Cyäegha. Within this polished obsidian mirror lay the spirit of a fellow robber from nearly two thousand years prior, trapped within the mirror's Stygian dephs. The mirror's denizen, a vestige named Cypharis, entered Vilya's body at her touch, gifting her with eldritch power in exchange for a free ride on her soul.
The relationship has been a truly symbiotic one. Cypharis' gifts allow Vilya to excel at things she loves, and Cypharis is content to live vicariously through her adventures, misadventures, and self-destructive behavior.
Appearance:
Spoiler:
Vilya is a small, slim woman (about five feet, five inches tall, and somewhere between one-hundred ten and one-hundred twenty pounds) with creamy brown skin and jet black hair. However, her eyes are solid black orbs without white or pupil, and her long fingers each have an extra joint. Her mixed Zapatec and Vellasian stock make for an exotic, unplaceable appearance.
She typically dresses in a sleeveless leather jerkin, over which are belted her four chosen weapons: the mace, kukri, handaxe, and short sword; as well as various small curios. Vilya also tends to favor gaudy, knee-length skirts, and a pair of thin reed sandals. She proudly wears a large sword circle tattoo on her upper back.
Personality
Spoiler:
Vilya is arrogant, impulsive, and paranoid, as well as a braggart and a showoff. However, her natural magnetism and considerable skills account for part of this. She speaks in a low, thickly accented contralto voice. Vilya is one of those people that you just can't help but listen to, even if what they're saying is one-hundred-eighty degrees away from the correct course of action, making her a VERY dangerous woman to be trapped in a dungeon with.
Things to know about Vilya:
- She always carries four weapons, becoming violent if anyone else touches them.
- Vilya is always right, according to Vilya.
- Anything that goes wrong is not her fault.
- Her sole aims in life are to accrue as much money as possible, and to have as much fun as possible, no matter the consequences to others.
- She won't attack or steal from party members- professional courtesy.
- Anyone else is fair game.
