Appearance:
Vargdan

hgt: 7’2, wgt: 250 lbs
eyes: ice blue
hair: white
age: 19

Pale-haired and ice-eyed, Vargdan is a burly fellow who towers over most men. Whorls of tattoos dance across his skin when it is bared, and a great tree spreads its branches across his broad back. Clad in heavy layers of fur, he wears a simple belt of metal plates over a sash about his belly, and he carries a massive bastard sword strapped to his back beside a fine recurved bow with an impressive pull. The bow has been carefully, if inexpertly, carved with patterns reminiscent of twisting branches and leaves. A gnarled and bloodstained club, little more than a glorified tree branch, is tucked into his belt with his dagger.

Personality:
Surprisingly soft-spoken for a Uthgardt, Vargdan is a great believer in carrying a big stick (or rather, his club) to make his points for him. He moves carefully, aware that his great strength and size can cause problems (he learned that the hard way!), but absolutely isn't above using them to his advantage in an argument. Though he tries to keep a cool head, he can be quite stubborn, and his worldview is somewhat black and white - with the black being inhabited by what he considers monsters, including people who twist nature to evil ends.

Background:
Vargdan is the son of Ulfdan, son of Ulvdan, who struck the killing blow against a necromancer 75 years past, and passed the sword that ended the wicked mage's life down through the generations. All proud warriors of the Tree Ghost Uthgardt, they also have kept a terrible secret: when the necromancer's black blood tainted that blade, it became infused with a terrible awareness. Now, dark secrets of magic are passed down the line of Ulvdan, seemingly leeching the very color from them, and whispers among the Tree Ghost tribe say that Vargdan's blood is blessed... or cursed.

Restlessness dwells in Vargdan's bones, and had ever since the blade was passed to him. The sword spoke to him, telling him of great vistas beyond his ken, and the people that would corrupt it with their magic of undeath; it told him that his was a glorious destiny, that he would undo this blasphemy against nature. Fired up with this promise, and unwilling to bear the rumors of his tribe any longer, he set out on his own to see whether the blade spoke truth, and to serve both his people and his own greater destiny.

Young and headstrong, he soon ran afoul of orcs in numbers he could not hope to survive. It was then that a non-Uthgardt and her friends saved him. She was a paladin of Tyr, and he swore to save her life as she had saved his. Amused, but not unwilling to take him under her wing, she let him join their adventuring party. Their path has eventually led them to Sundabar, where she intended to visit the Hall of Everlasting Justice.

(The name of the paladin can be whatever suits you, or maybe be changed to one of the other party members.)
