HISTORY
Bayushi Takeya grew up north of the Cherry Blossom lake. Raised by his parents who were both instructors at the Red Crane Dojo, they saw their child as a student who had no need to go home, because school was the same as home. Both himself and his younger brother Ren, whom he dotes upon, were raised there even throughout the Scorpion's banishment to the Burning Sands. Nobody outside of the Scorpion really knew where the Red Crane dojo was, they just heard of it's existence. His gempukku was much like other Scorpion clan samurai, and he passed, donning a black mask with a red scorpion tail on it. On the inside of the mask was the simple phrase enjoyed my many. "I can swim."
Takeya has been arranged to be married several times, but every time the contract is to be completed something happens. Either the family of the bride withdraws their contract, or the woman comes down ill with something. Takeya believes that his masters in the Scorpion clan want to save him for a political marriage so he waits, still unmarried.
Growing up with two sensei who view you as a student who never goes home was hard on Takeya. But he managed, he learned many of the new techniques that would be used in court when the Scorpion returned, and became rather skilled in the use of a blade, but not very much in the use of other weapons. His brother certainly was better than he was in most aspects showing natural talent for everything. Takeya knew this, but he loved his brother and tried harder and harder every day so that he could set the example. And it looks like he did, his younger brother would be the current competitor in the Topaz Tournament, which is why he was called to be in Tsuma. Unfortunately before his brother could begin travelling he came down with an illness, nothing to worry about he's been assured, but this new filth wasn't even half as good as Ren. To this young man he bears a smile and friendly words. He knows what the young scorpion must do, and he is there to guide. Takeya will do as he is told, but he will hate every moment of it.
PERSONALITY
Words and looks can kill, they can do more harm than any blade, and they can whittle down an opponents defenses faster than steel. These were lessons taught to Takeya, and he keeps them at heart for he knows that there are fates worse than death. He utilizes certain...shall we say talents and skills to get people to do his bidding, which is all fun and games to him unless his daimyo has a task for him. He is slightly more honest than many scorpions, as the current clan Champion uses that as a tool, and Takeya plans to sharpen that tool.
No samurai is perfect, and Takeya has gone to some extra lengths to ensure that his imperfections are minimal. His hands are restless, and when idle he will simply tuck his hands into his kimono into a small hidden pocket and fiddle with a couple of small trinkets. Usually glass beads or something akin to that. The minimal noise they make, and the fact that it can be hidden so easily bring a small sense of joy to the man. However he hates to be ignored.
