Background:
The Marinters were once allies of the Old Crone, Baba Yaga, when she created Irrisen a thousand years ago. They also were among the ruling class, but as the Jadwiga grew in numbers and power, they pushed the Marinters into a lesser social class. This made them targets of the malice and mischief of the cold fey and other wintry creatures the Jadwiga made allies with.

Losing both his parents and his siblings to the trickery and evil of hags, witches, and fey, Svartokshe Marinter fled Irrisen, tricking a guardian into letting him escape, and abandoned his name and past, renaming himself "Black-Ice". His only family left is a changeling half-sister named Filla, who remained in Irrisen and became a fey-blooded sorceress.

Svartokshe wandered through Avistan, ending up in the Taldan village of Heldrin on the eve of his eighteenth birthday, right as an unnatural cold falls upon the village.

Personality:
Svartokshe is a cold, brutal fighter, hardly uttering a sound in battle, his eyes becoming pure white as his blades find their mark. He hates the fey and refuses to discriminate between the bad ones or the ones that pretend to be good.

He does, however, show compassion towards those who suffered from the ice in other's hearts, knowing well their pain.

Kostchtchie:
Svartokshe once worshipped Desna, but that was when his family still breathed. Now, he idealizes a life styled after the demon lord of giants, revenge, and cold; the boy sees in the Deathless Frost a kindred spirit. Abiding by Kostchtchie's creeds of vengeance against others, women, and witches, Svartokshe is initially distrustful of women and hates all witches. He does not necessarily worship the demon lord, but he comes close. He does await the day when he may serve the Deathless Frost in the purging of his forsaken homeland.

Desna:
Svartokshe has abandoned his faith of the Queen of the North Star, but he still bears his mother's Desnan holy symbol on his person, albeit he has left it to become rusty. Torn now between Desna and Kostchtchie, he has spent many cold nights staring up at the stars, doubting himself and his conflicted faith.

Catch-Phrases:
"No woman, save one's mother, is worth such foolishness."

"The winter is merciless, it'll take everything from you, to the bone."

Pain, an excerpt:
It was to the haunting sounds of high-pitched cackles and the screams of children that Svartokshe awoke. Frosty eyes opened wearily, it was always to these sounds he woke.

Groaning as he sat up, he took a glance around him. He was in a forest, a brook trickling past him, and a bird singing a chirping song. He sighed, "Desna weeps."
