About Sable Eboncrow
In youth, Sable's feet rarely touched the ground. While other children of his village pretended to sword fight, Sable was climbing trees and rooftops. Many evenings Sable would watch from his hammock with a bird's eye view, lulled to sleep by the sounds of birds within the boughs he was nestled. Birds always held a sense of mystery for Sable, especially ravens. His parents thought it just a child's passing fancy, until Korax found Sable.
It became quickly apparent that the bond between Korax and Sable was deeper than a Master and pet relationship, and soon Sable was ushered to the wizards for tutelage. Sable grew frustrated when his tutors insisted he learn his spells from their tomes. By talking to his friend Korax everyday, Sable was able to manifest cantrips that the other young elven mages weren't able to master. Realizing the importance of the bond, Sable's family took him from the wizards to allow his talents to grow upon their own.
As years went on, Sable became a source of wisdom and unbiased judgment for his community. Villagers would beseech his assistance to dissolve a dispute, since in all manners Sable attempted to see the problem from above and objectively. Although he kept to himself at the edge of the village in his self-styled aerie, he was treated with respect.
At the cusp of adulthood, Sable took to watching the flocks of birds, noting their patterns and how those patterns could be interpreted to avoid certain disasters. After a fateful thunderstorm, a congress of ravens, including Korax, took to the skies fervently. Sable gathered his staff and few belongings, and began the trek to follow his winged friends. After many days, the ravens made their way to the city of Riddleport, and to a one landed upon the Ciphergate. All but Korax have gone their own ways, but Sable remains in Riddleport, knowing his patron has called him here for a purpose. So he watches and waits for a sign.
Tall and lithe, Sable sports a pale complexion unmarred by scars, but marked with symbols that resemble bird feet. These are, in fact, temporary tattoos made with assistance from Korax and dark berries. Sable's straight ebon hair contrasts his pale skin, frames his elven features, and reaches past his waist. Beneath his midnight tresses, Sable's icy blue eyes shine brightly. Raven feathers adorn most of Sable's dark clothing which has seen better days. Often he is seen with a crook-shaped quarterstaff resting lightly in his hand with a pitch black male raven perched upon it. Sable moves with an air of grace, but seems to be awkward when walking upon flat surfaces.
