I have Oriental Adventures, but haven't done much with it. I just got Ravenloft, and it looks fun. Would combining the two into a single Pathfinder campaign be feasible fluff-wise? What I want is gritty horror in an Asian setting. Could running Oriental Adventures while borrowing a lot from Ravenloft lead to something fun, or is this trying to combine two things that don't belong together?

A lot of Asian cultures have ghost stories coming out of every orifice. I think you could definitely do this. I'd try and get your hands on source material for inspiration, everything from Asian horror movies to books of folktales; as far as gaming books goes, there's one from about ten years back for 3.0 called Jade Dragons and Hungry Ghosts that, well, has a lot of said ghosties you could use.

It would be cool for a whole AP devoted to exploring Tian Xia not just the Japanese inspired part but most if not all of it.

The jungle to the south sounds interesting with that "titan" that landed there and the island chain with a connection to Saurusan.

This. I have more than a little interest in running a SE Asian themed Tian Xia game (SE Asian Studies guy, it's kind of my life), and if you make an adventure path for Minata, Nagajor, Dtang Ma or Xa Hoi, I guarantee you I will shell out. No question. Hell, I'm pumped just for the brief Nagajor adventure coming out in March.

I, on the other hand am very interested in asian cultures/mythologies, as well as many other cultures. I like when fantasy games incorporate real world myths and cultures.
Eh, it's just too played-out for me. I'm already in an L5R campaign.

It's interesting you'd say that, because when it comes to Japanese and to a lesser extent Chinese stuff, I'd agree. It's the fact that this book/series seems to realize there's other parts of Asia that pulls me in. In particular I'm interested in the Cambodian, Vietnamese and Indonesian inspired areas. That, I don't think is nearly as thoroughly mined at this point.

What base classes would you guys consider not very appropriate for a Dragon Empires game and are there likely to be replacements or adaptations in the Primer?

I'm curious what you guys think will be the classes needed to run a game in this? Are we probably fine just using the base PF classes (I've got the core and Adv Players Guide myself) or are most of those likely inappropriate?

Hey, I haven't quite made it through the whole thread yet, but I'm kind of new to the party. I've been looking for a SE Asian inspired fantasy setting (something drawing more on Sukhotai or Angkor or Champa than on any of the East Asian cultures). Is this going to make me happy? If so, I'd love to see more of that sort of thing. It's an area of special interest to me.
