Misfortune specifically states you must take the worse result.

Edit: The definition of Misfortune is different for Dual Cursed Oracle than it is for Witch. Strange. I wonder if this is a typo? As per the Oracle definition, you would be ok trying to help your party like that. If you go by the Witch definition, you can only make things worse.

I'm going to be swinging through LAX June 2-4. Any games happening the eve of the 2nd or 3rd? I'll be staying in Anaheim and won't have a car but can probably host at my hotel.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

This past weekend we had a small home game with 8 players and 2 GMs. One of the GMs ran his first ever PFS game, which was also his second ever game as a GM. We ran In Service To Lore and We Be Goblins. There was a new player at the goblin table. We also had a PFS UAE first. Barwickian leveled up one of his characters.

After the scenarios were run the grill was fired up and massive quantities of meat were consumed followed by a Single Malt tasting session with 10 varieties to sample from. The evening then broke down into a 5 hour session of Cards Against Humanity. Most of us wound up going to bed at the morning call to prayer (4:30am ish).

Thanks to everyone who came out. I'm looking forward to doing it again.

After a successful one off last week, PFS was a featured event at the Gulf Roleplaying Community mini-con in Dubai today. I was there with both of my VCs and we had a great day. All ten of the reserved PFS numbers were handed out and all but two of those new society members were able to play the it first Society game. This is from an estimated 50-60 total players who attended the Con.

4 new characters were created in the morning session and 6 pre-gens were played at two tables in the afternoon. Tarek Altarack ran In Service to Lore and I ran The Confirmation as the two introductory scenarios. There was a lot of positive feedback and it looks like we will have monthly regular games in addition to other home games and ad hoc games as PFS starts becoming a part of the local vocabulary.

I look forward to these individuals with the temporary PFS cards becoming a part of our community. Please help me welcome them over the next few days as they find their way here. Also, thanks for the continued support the VLs and I have received as we continue to learn and grow.

I wanted to take a minute and praise the UAE lodge. Mike and his wife, Joe, were extremely accommodating to me on my trip to Dubai. Mike really went the extra mile in putting a game together, so that I would have an opportunity to play. Mike is new to PFS, but has years of RPG experience that came out in his GMing. He was prepared, entertaining, and made things fun. The venue was great and the group a proper set of gamers. Thanks to Andy for the NPC Codex Box which is awesome and for giving me a ride to the airport. Talk about hospitality! So if you are ever I going to UAE, be sure to contact Mike and make a little PFS apart of your trip. Thanks again to Mike, Joe, and Andy.

Thanks for the lovely words Rob. We were glad to have you. I appreciated the time you took after the session to help us PFS newbies with the session reporting. You confirmed my decision to branch out from Pathfinder home games and get involved with PFS was a good one. You are welcome any time you can manage to swing by. One of these days Jo and I will have to take you up on your offer to head over to Thailand and play.

Unfortunately, I made a minor mistake with the paperwork. I filled in everyone's chronicle sheets but forgot to record them myself. I now need Andy and Rob to send me their character names and numbers so I can report the session.

The learning curve has been tested for the first time. All I can say is 'DOH!' Other than that minor hiccup, it was a blast. I only hope the players had as much fun as I did.

As long as you are having a good time. I haven't figured out the tabletop system yet, but maybe we can coordinate something that way.

We have just started organizing PFS in the Middle East. I would love to hook up with the players in Saudi. We are so new we are still organizing our first game. If you can road trip to Dubai on the 24th of Jan. you can join in the kickoff. Otherwise, I'm sure we can coordinate something.

@Forrest Beal, do you take turns as GM or is it just one guy? I'd love to hear how things are working out for you there. I'm looking forward to chatting with you soon.

Are all the chronicle sheets on the "additional resources" page up to date for use in Season 5 or is there an errata sheet we need to reference?

Please help me welcome Tarek Alatrach and Andy Staples as Venture-Lieutenants in the United Arab Emirates. They have both agreed to help me get things started here, and there is a lot to be done. I hope you give them the same welcome and support you have given me in my short tenure as Venture-Captain.

Tarek will be serving in Abu Dhabi and Andy will be helping out in Dubai. I am grateful to have such talented individuals to work with in our effort to expand PFS to the Middle East.

I have a group of players that are veteran gamers but new to PFS. I was considering running In Service to Lore just to give the players a chance to explore the Factions during play. With 2 of the three scenarios retired, what are people using to complete the introduction?

Should I even bother with In Service to Lore or should I just start off with another scenario? Any recommendations?

Haven't started weekly games yet, but there is a con on the 24th of Jan. Visit the Gulf Roleplaying Community on Facebook for info and directions or message me when you are going to be in town and I'll see if I can arrange something. I don't have my Jan schedule yet, they normally don't publish my monthly schedules until after the 25th~ish every month.

The Pathfinder Society has finally explored its way to the Middle East with a new region in the UAE. I know a lot of the active members of the Gulf Roleplaying Community, and I would like to reach out at this time to anyone interested in PFS play anywhere in the Gulf. As a former soldier, I know that it isn't always easy to get off post and I want any military or civilian contractors who are looking to get involved to please contact me. There is a lot going on in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and we would love to have you join us.

I think a bloodline character would have at least as good a chance to learn the blood language as to learn goblin. I think it makes as much sense as a halfling wizard being able to substitute draconic for one of their race language selections. And given that halflings tend to 'dwell at the knees' of humans then why don't they have the same language choices as humans? If this was a human character instead of a halfling the language selection wouldn't even be an issue.

@Barwickian @DonDuckie It is a 1 in 2700+ coincidence we picked the same avatar. I'm hoping they eventually allow custom avatars.

Hello everyone. I am really excited to get PFS organized play going in the Middle East. I am a long time gamer but have no experience with organized play. I have a not even participated in a PFS event in any capacity and only rescently started. This is going to be a trial by fire, but I see there is a lot of support out there.

@June, good catch on the military guys. I am working on the civilian side and don't have a lot of contact with military guys. Anybody with any military contacts over here please msg me so I can get in touch with them.

Just shows you how new to the forum I am. It should be moved.

I started this thread on Facebook and it was suggested I might get better feedback if I brought the discussion here.

Here is a brief synopsis of how I came to this suggestion. I am new to Pathfinder and PFS, but I have been playing various roleplaying games since the early '80s. I was rolling my first Pathfinder character at a friends. I created a fey bloodline halfling sorcerer with an intelligence which gave a +1 language bonus.

I was creating the character organically, not referencing the rules every time I needed to make a choice. The whole process seemed similar to 3.5, so I thought I was making legit choices. The only place I got tripped up in the whole character generation process was when I took Sylvan as a starting language. Auditing the character revealed this was not a valid choice.

Wizards are allowed Draconic as bonus language because of race. I don't really see the logic behind making a 'bloodline' language unavailable to sorcerers, so I would like to suggest a small tweek to the rules in the next revision. Allow characters the ability to learn their bloodline's base language. I'm not suggesting a bonus language, just unlock the appropriate language if the character has the intelligence to learn it.

Bloodline - Language

Aberrant - Aklo
Abyssal - Abyssal
Arcane - Draconic
Celestial - Celestial
Destined -
Draconic - Draconic
Elemental - 1 of Aquan/Auran/Ingan/Terran
Fey - Sylvan
Infernal - Infernal
Undead -

I think the availability of these languages make sense and would add a little more flavor to the game. Please let me know what you think?
