BACKGROUND & APPEARANCE

Kearan was born to knighthood: his father was a knight before him, and he was from an early age a strong and able-bodied boy. He struggled with his education but was dedicated to it nonetheless; although by no means renowned for his cleverness or sharp mind, Kearan made good on his studies of combat and the knightly arts, including hunting and riding.

He was, in fact, on a track for a position as a highly respected and prestigious knight-commander, but as a squire the tragedy of his life struck: while out hunting with his companions, his spear snapped under the weight of a boar, which savaged him with its tusks. Kearan's mail shirt protected his vitals, and he even managed to finish the beast off with his knife, but it wounded him dearly in the throat. The healing miracles of the Way of the White kept him alive, along with his natural toughness, and the scars healed for the most part, but the wound took his voice--ever since, Kearan finds it difficult to speak above a hoarse whisper, and even such quiet volume causes him pain. His new tendency toward brief statements of importance, coupled with his powerful stature, lent him a moniker: Kearan the Short, a name which perfectly captures his demeanor but belies his strength.

Since the hunting wound, Kearan has finished his work as a squire and become a full Knight of Astora, proudly wearing a crest on his armor and shield. His great strength and vitality have given him some renown, although his voice prevents him from being a truly inspiring leader--a harsh reality that he's come to accept and even appreciate, as he's happy to serve in what capacity he can. He's a faithful companion, a loyal warrior, and a deadly sword--a true knight in the classical sense.

Kearan stands over six feet tall, with a broad build that radiates power and vigor. He prefers to wear his armor whenever possible, including his helmet when socially acceptable, and keeps them in a state of high polish and maintenance, along with his weapons. When not in his helmet, Kearan presents cropped, sandy hair over emerald eyes, with a close-trimmed beard. He nearly always wears a crimson scarf, swathed about his throat to hide the remnants of his scars.
