About Kamlann of Egorian

Kamlann Murdrigno was the only scion of House Murdrigno, and the hopes of his ambitious parents rested on him. A small House in the orbit of the Thrice-Damned House of Thrune in Cheliax, Murdrigno fought for the scraps of power tossed to the lesser Houses by the Imperial Majestrix, but Ater and Gwyonna Murdrigno had greater designs for their son. To this end, they contracted with Hell for the services of a powerful erinyes, a sorceress named Miergannye, to act as a tutor for their child. Miergannye was both swordmistress and school teacher to the boy, and taught him the unique and difficult techniques that blend blade and spell together. She also carefully schooled him in the worship of Asmodeus, and the boy, who has lost so much that he once had from that time, has held onto that faith with determined zeal.

Unfortunately, Murdrigno had a number of enemies, and Ater and Gwyonna were not careful enough in their drive for increased influence. Another House, the Lancenzlos, fabricated evidence that painted Murdrigno with the taint of treason against the throne; though the evidence was weak, the bribes paid to the judges were large. Ater, Gyonna and their son were sentenced to death and their properties seized. Ater, to whome Miergannye was bound, gave the erinyes one last order before he died: to break Kamlann out of jail before the sentence could be carried out. "Let him find vengeance against our betrayers," the old man whispered, and the erinyes smiled her wicked smile and agreed.

Kamlann now wanders the world beyond Cheliax's borders, for the sentence of death still hangs over him. While he schemes to return, he has sold his sword to the Aspis Consortium, who find his skill with a blade and magical talent both quite useful. The Consortium has sent him to northern Garund and Qadira, where he has spent several years aiding tomb raiders and thieves plunder ancient relics. Although he is a handsome man, few would describe him as charming; "cold-hearted snake" is rather more typical, and he prefers to keep his romantic encounters on a mercenary basis, with coin paid for services rendered. Similarly, though there are many who have met him who fear him, and some who have worked with him who respect him, there is basically no one who likes him. This suits Kamlann just fine. Fear and respect are tools enough - they are all he will require when he finally makes his bloody return to Cheliax.
