Wayfinder (standard): A small magical device patterned off ancient relics of the a long lost civilization, a wayfinder is typically made from silver and bears gold accents. With a command word, you can use a wayfinder to shine (as the light spell). The wayfinder also acts as a nonmagical (magnetic) compass, granting you a +2 circumstance bonus on Survival checks to avoid becoming lost. All wayfinders include a small indentation designed to hold a single ioun stone. An ioun stone slotted in this manner grants you its normal benefits (as if it were orbiting your head), but frequently reveals entirely new powers due to the magic of the wayfinder itself.

Background:

Born in Egorian, much of Horven's early childhood remains blissfully forgotten. He no longer remembers his parents' faces. The only person he knew as family is Torbert Fiftyfingers, a grizzled uncle his parents contacted to smuggle Horven out of Cheliax when he was ten. Starting a new life on the outskirts of Andoran, Torbert taught Horven how to survive and fostered a deep and unabiding hatred for Cheliax. Torbert passed when Horven was 16, leaving the young halfling to fend for himself.
Horven has known that he was good with his hands from an early age. Unfortunately, he learned how to use them in good and bad ways. He always tried to do the right thing and earn coin through hard work, but his growling stomach and penchant for a warm bed sometimes led him to "borrow" a few gold on occasion from strangers. He is proud and focused on his wood carving, determined to show others the worth of halfling craftsmanship.
Horven has always had a bit of wanderlust and has gotten lost in the wilderness from time to time. For that reason, he has become a faithful worshiper of Desna. He prays to her every morning for safe travels if he's on the road or for luck if he's selling some crafts in town. He is mindful to always drop a coin or two in her temples because he has a feeling that she watches over him quite often.
In his travels, Horven has learned that not all people are good. He is quite careful when dealing with new people, but his friendly nature shows as he grows more comfortable around others. He makes sure that he is not indifferent towards others because that leads to bad business. He genuinely seeks to help those less fortunate than him since he's been in their shoes before.
