Background:
Domitian Olavsgaard. As strange a name as any in Taldor. His surname, Olavsgaard is from his father Jorgen, a fierce, animalistic warrior who escaped Irrisen to become one of the renowned Ulfen Guard to Duke Alonzo. His given name, Domitian, given by his mother Isabella, a beautiful lady in waiting to the Duchess.

Like many an immigrant child, Dom was a child torn between the heritage of his ancestors and the culture of Zimar, the only home he knew. Jorgen taught Dom to fight, and indeed Dom gained the strength and endurance that flows from Ulfen blood. But Dom grew increasingly repressed by his father's angry criticism and harsh discipline. As he began to come of age, Dom longed to be like the others around him - proud soldiers of Taldor, defending against the menace of the next Qadiran invasion.

His dream would soon become reality. Dom had become friends with Marcus, the eldest child to the Duke. He snuck along as Marcus joined his father on a hunt. That day, the hunting party caught sight of a wild boar, but the boar proved elusive and hard to track. The hunting party spread out, and Marcus and Dom joined enthusiastically in the search, Marcus armed with his hunting spear. It was then that the wild boar charged at them from the underbrush, snapping Marcus's spear in twain and severely goring him! Seeing his friend in peril, Dom was able to grab the deadlier half of Marcus's spear and fatally wound the beast, before hurrying in search of aid.

Dom's heroics did not escape Duke Alonzo's notice. Seeing much potential in the boy, the Duke arranged for Dom to receive a proper education in both the literary arts and chivalrous combat. Dom became a student alongside Marcus. Dom learned the ways of rondelero combat, wielding falcata and buckler in the grandest of Taldan fencing tradition. As Dom integrated more deeply into the circle of nobility Marcus began to treat Dom like a brother, and in some ways, Duke Alonzo began to treat Dom like a son.

Dom's mother was proud that her son was advancing so well in Taldan noble circles. But Dom's father Jorgen was far less pleased, jealous that Duke Alonzo was usurping Jorgen's role as a provider for his son, and also distraught by Dom's abandonment of Ulfen culture. Dom's father was quite sure that Dom was not achieving his true potential. "These Taldans, they fight like chickens! Fluttering back and forth while poking weakly with their beaks. Their ways are not meant for a true man! You are strong and hardy, and must learn to fight with the warrior spirit!"

"You're wrong, father! Rondolero fighting is the true style of nobility!" Faced with such criticism, Dom reacted in rebellion. It was true that the Taldan fighting style was flowing and elegant. Dom learned some of that, but it was not entirely in keeping with Dom's build and his childhood upbringing. Yet what Dom lacked in swiftness and grace, he made up for with power and endurance. After years of training, Dom became a uniquely effective swordsman.

Now of age, Dom finds his livelihood and employment as a hedge knight and mercenary, seeking to earn his name as a fighter and prove that the Taldan way of fighting is indeed superior. Heldren was his most recent stop, a tiny town where Dom sought to take a rest. Little did he know that this seemingly sleepy town might lead him to a completely different destiny - one where he would become steeped in his Ulfen ancestry.

Appearance and Personality:

Domitian is tall, blonde, and fair-skinned, showing many physical traits evocative of his Ulfen heritage. But his hair, jewelry, and ornate attire all speak of Taldan courtly styles. He is proud and quick to perceive a slight or an insult, even if one is not present, perhaps being too sensitive about his unusual heritage and fighting style. He is also very eager to play the role of hero, remaining naive about the challenges and consequences of battle and war.
