About Brana Perun

Brana Perun, comes from a magical family. Her mother, Zorya, is a wizard of modest power and her father, Dubravko, is a city official in Caliphas who happens to be a minor sorcerer proficient with enchantment spells. Brana's draconic heritage showed itself when she turned fourteen, her mother found her in her bed, all the sheets ripped to shreds. A few months later she accidentally electrocuted a houseplant. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries before she was able to get both abilities under control.

At the age of twelve, Brana was woken in the middle of the night to the sound of her mother, father, and a third person arguing in their home. She snuck out of bed and walked into the common area near the entrance to her home. Her mother was crying, her father was red with rage, and a third person that looked like both was yelling at them. This was the moment Brana realized you couldn't trust anyone. Her brother, Kazimeriz, had left shortly after she was born. Until that moment, she had not known he existed - her parents had chosen to ignore his existence. Through the tears and yelling, she gathered that her brother was sixteen years older than her and had left home after a huge fight about the gang of thieves he was running with. Her father unsheathed his dueling cane and ordered her brother out of the house. Kazimeriz smiled, said "You'll regret that one day, father." and slipped out the door.

Shortly after her seventeenth birthday, Brana struck out on her own, at her mother's behest and with her mother's magical light crossbow. Her mother was a freelance operative for the Pathfinder Society early in her own life and insisted her daughter follow in her footsteps. Brana, hesitant at first, eventually embraced the idea of becoming an adventurer. She did travel around the Inner Sea for a few years, sharing a few adventures and gaining a few magical items she still wears, until finally returning home. Brana found the life of an adventurer tiresome and chaotic, often forcing her to make decisions contrary to her personal code of public service.

Upon her return, Brana began working for her father, whose rise through the ranks of public service had gained him the Mayor of Caliphas' ear. Working as an aide to the Mayor, Brana's father was able to secure a position for her on the Mayor's staff. Brana was assigned as an envoy between Caliphas and Carrion Hill. She has completed several trade agreements between the two cities and gained the Mayor of Carrion Hill, Mayor Heggry, as a close friend. He has repeatedly offered her a job on his staff, trying to entice her from her position in Caliphas. Brana's diplomatic skills continue to help her rise to a position just under her father.

One evening several months ago, Brana was at a late night function for the Mayor when tragedy struck. Her father was found murdered on the steps of the Mayor's residence, his throat was slit so deep he was nearly decapitated. There were several stab wounds in the abdomen and back as well. The murderer was never found, but robbery was ruled out as a motive - all her father's valuables were still on his person. The sheer amount of stab wounds and severity of the killing blow indicate a large amount of rage during the attack. The lack of defensive wounds on Dubravko show that he knew his attacker and was taken without a fight.

Brana was devastated. She had never spoken of her brother to her parents, the memories of that night; especially the sneer on her brother's face as he left the house, came flooding back to her. Her years as an adventurer had not prepared her for the loss of her father. Her rage burned and Brana spent several months trying to find her brother to determine his guilt or innocence. She never did, and only stopped looking when the Mayor himself pulled her aside and pointed out how she was not helping anyone and her job performance was suffering.

During that time, Brana's relationship with her mother cooled. They had been close before her brother's visit, but the unspoken truth had hurt the relationship she'd had with her parents. Zorya had become more distant and quiet since Dubravko's murder. She and Brana have not spoken in weeks with neither of them showing any sign of breaking the silence.

As a part of her duties for the Mayor of Caliphas, she has been sent to Carrion Hill to attend the birthday party of Mayor Heddry as a sign of continued relations between the two cities. She is looking forward to seeing her good friend, the Mayor, again.
