About Aydan Mishnok

Appearance
The man standing at the bar telling loud bawdy story to the barman is tall for a Varisian. Short-cropped dark hair and a trimmed beard frame his face, which is plain but strong and domianted by near-black eyes behind which lies a sharp intellect. His olive skin is taut over ropey muscle and he's dressed in a sturdy brown travelling coat and boots, with an large blade scabbarded on his back. A backpack filled with various adventuring equipment lie at his feet.

Background
Aydan was born in Caliphas, and he is proud of his Varisian heritage. His mother is an ex-adventurer and travelling Varisian. She was originally from near Korvosa but had settled down with Aydan's innkeeper father before he was born. He is the oldest of three children. His mother had been a great explorer, and she gave him his mighty sword as a gift. A sword borne by an old comrade of hers. His sister Zanasa, the middle child and a stern young woman, took up their father's trade seekign to expand the families holdings. His youngest sister Hannari, whom the entire family had always doted on became enchanted with the study of magic and enrolled as a wizard's apprentice at a young age. In later years Aydan would always write her letters on his travels.

He left home for Absalom at the age of sixteen and arrived in the great city nearly penniless but still full of ambition to become a Pathfinder. He got himself enrolled in the academy, but had trouble keeping up with some of the aspects of his training, especially the fine manipualtion of devices and locks. A large lad he had never struggled with combat, but he fell behind in subtler arts. All this changed when he attended a talk given by Professor Lorrimor. He approached the seasoned traveller afterwards and they immediately struck up a repore and shared tales of back home in Ustalav. The mans influence and the occasional very lessons, mainly teaching him little trick on how to better use theives tools and giving him encouragement, he gave when he visited the City at the Center at the world saw Aydan finish his training and become a full initiate in the society.

Aydan was attached to an expedition to dark parts of the Mwangi Expanse, and while he learned much and was successful in his tasks, the journey home was his undoing. Aydan had always been a passionate man, and in battle his temper tended to get the better of him. When the expedition was assaulted by charu-ka Aydan charged in recklessly and with little abandon and his carelessness cost a fellow initiate there life. His hopes were dashed and upon returngin to Absalom he was quickly shuffled off to the Lodge in Ustalav.

He returned home in a fit of melancholy, his friend dead, Aydan still carries the holy symbol of Iomedae the Taldan man, Ariost Illengrin, had held dearly. He struggled with the shame and regret for weeks after returning home. Until his sister graduated from her training to become a full-fledged wizard. After the celebration, Aydans' mother gave him a sword owned by a comrade of hers who had died and told Aydan that many friends die in the heat of battle and danger of exploration. He must honor his friend by carrying on his will and memory. Aydan took this to heart and had the names of both his dead friend and his mother's comrade, a dwarven warrior called Gorrid Dandraggar, inscribed on the blade and named it Ghostcaller.

Aydan has been active in the lodge in Ustalav, but his bad record makes it hard for him to get assignments. The recent death of Professor Lorrimor has prompted Aydan to go to the man's funeral, and he is planning to inscribe his old mentor as the third name on his blade.
