Some are born mediocre...
Some achieve mediocrity...
And some have mediocrity thrust upon them...
Though he never knew his father, Aleksander has always suspected that the circumstances of his birth were far from ordinary. As a young boy, Aleksander grew up in the statue haunted streets of Aleksander, always dreaming of a life of adventure and greatness, wandering the roads and living by his talent with the blade. Nevertheless, there are things we cling to and others we abandon for a steady salary - as the only son of a single mother, Aleksander turned his focus to more mundane concerns.
The Magnimarian Guard seemed like a good place to start for a young man, he thought - perhaps he would see some of the adventure he dreamed of in his youth and perhaps do some good for the city while earning enough to feed his aging parent.
The passing of his mother to a fatal bout of blackscour taint which destroyed his savings in a vain attempt to fight it has dulled his idealism and hope for the future. Likewise, years of walking a beat have taken the luster of his work. A life of doing little more than rousting the occasional drunkard or apprehending a stray cut-purse have convinced him that if he ever made Watch Sergeant, it would likely be the high point of his seemingly bland career.
Aleksander had hoped that receiving a new posting would be the first step to promotion, though deep down, he suspects that his career is effectively being put on ice. Being posted to the garrison of one of Magnimar's smaller holdings has done little to convince him otherwise...
A well built man with a shock of unkempt dark hair, Aleksander moves with the economy of motion of one who has spent too long in the service. Always calm and playing the straight man, years of walking a beat have instilled in him a natural caution and wariness of others, though his belief in the better nature of man and his natural politeness still shine through. Despite exemplary (if uninspired) service in the city watch though, many have chosen to read his even temperament as a lack of drive however, and the sought after promotion continues to elude him, much to his personal frustration.
