Nice story and a few pages of preview for the new Golarion-set Pathfinder comic coming out in August:

The art style is REALLY cool when taken in total. I reviewed a LOT of artist for this job, and in the end Andrew's was by far the most interesting. He sneaks so many sweet details into crowd shots that it's been really exciting to see the pages as they come in.
I'm very satisfied with the choice of artists (and writer) for the book. While it's impossible to please everyone all the time with something as subjective as art, Andrew Huerta brings an exciting sense of ENERGY to the comic that I think even naysayers will come to appreciate!
(Plus, did we mention the extra game content written by JAMES JACOBS in the back of each issue? That's going to be super awesome as well!)

Don't get me wrong the art is good, just not really a style I care for. It is the faces in the preview pieces I don't like. To be fair I don't like most comic book art. I tend to like more art like WAR or Louis Royo art. I still might pick them up though and check them out.

Kevin,
The first six issues comprise a single story arc, and will be better read together than separately. That said, I am not a big fan of "decompressed storytelling" or simply writing for trade paperback collection, so I'm doing my best to work with Jim to make each issue enjoyable in and of itself.
The main "group" for this first story involves six iconic characters. One additional iconic makes a cameo appearance later in the first arc, and there are a couple of other "guest stars" that big-time Pathfinder fans will recognize.
I mean, they _are_ in Sandpoint...

I'm excited for this, but I'm a little worried about the art, given the preview. The illustration itself looks fine, but it seems awfully graphic to me.
I showed them to my wife, and her reaction was something like, "A Pathfinder comic? Interesting. . . Eew, yuck! That's so distressing!"
I'm a little worried that people will get turned off by the level of gore.

Yeah there were a few people whining about the gore over on EN World.
I dont understand though. It's a fantasy world where people are using sharp pieces of metal to hack and stab thier way through most things that get in thier way. I mean "Hack 'n Slash?" but people haave an issue with the depiction of the ACTUAL Hack and slashing?
Gamers confuse me sometimes. No, actually they confuse me most of the time.

You can't please everybody... For me if was Disneyfied bambiesque pap I would not put down my hard earned cash. Then again I read 2000 AD in preference to Marvel or DC.
I am confused people want to read storeys about people sticking sharp objects into or burning intelligent beings to death with magical fire so that you can rob them and then get squeamish about all the mess you make in the killing and flip out about the blood and gore and complain its not good for kids to read when the thing that should flip us out is the glorification of murder and theft and hiding the realities of blood fear and pain.
Then again its only make believe and the reality on the news is far worse.

It's not a splatter comic. Most of the first issue involves solving a mystery and interactions with Sandpoint, and doesn't involve fighting at all. Think of the first few pages shown (which are actually the first few pages of the actual comic) as the first few minutes of a James Bond movie.
That said, as Andrew's art makes it clear, it's also not a comic that shies away from violence. There will definitely be some gross moments ahead.

Would you ever look at doing a story arc of an AP in the comics? I know its a bit spoiler'ish, but would be a good read and helpful to see how the story is meant to flow.
We've considered it! Ultimately, given that Jim Zub is writing this first series, we opted to let him work his mojo and come up with something new. But if the comics take off, who knows what could happen?

I'm not super-thrilled with the art, either (though it may be I'm just way too used to Wayne Reynold's work). Though Merisiel's face looks like the Joker's when she's looking at Valeros and smiling in that one panel, which doesn't help. That said, I've comics with art that bothered me more.
Now that I'm done griping, I am also curious if they will be a subscription available through Paizo. My friendly local comic book store has a lot of problems getting Dynamite comics from their distributor (to the point I gave up trying to keep up with The Dresden Files comics) so I'm better off looking for other channels.

Me too. Is there any word yet on how often the comic will come out? I presume there is somewhere, but didn't see it in the press release.

Interesting art style, will the art style very per issue, story arc, etc.?
That is a very distinctive art style. Are you locked into using that artist after the first arc is done?
If you do have to keep the same artist... Can the fans do a kickstarter to have WAR tutor this guy in how to do faces?
Thanks

I feel as though I am the only one that actually likes the faces... I've only seen the previews, but I really do like the way it looks for now.
Plus Valeros looks awesome.
Everything's bigger in comics!
Valeros' short sword, Seoni's breats...
I don't think thats a bad thing...

I suspect that there's a lot of this going on, in fact. Folks who like things are MUCH less likely to voice their opinions than folks who don't.

James Jacobs wrote:Folks who like things are MUCH less likely to voice their opinions than folks who don't.That is true. I actually like the art style, and yet the only thing I can think to say is "Oh noes, we can see the whites of Merisiel's eyes! What is this world coming to?!"
Those look more like reflections to me than the whites of an eye.

Check the upper-right panel of the fourth preview page. The Rogue portrait in the CRB has reflections -- one per eye, and in the middle of one eye. The preview has white in both corners of each eye.
I like you and I know she's your baby. I'm not pointing this out to be mean; I'm hoping that it's not too late for such a small change as a character's eyes. (I don't know how the comics biz works.)

Don't worry--we have art approval privileges!

Really really love the art here. It gives me a Slaine feel, and that's a Great Thing!
Excited to learn more and more about the Iconics, and their personalities, and this artists has already shown that he has a knack for showing off character emotions, as well as a good grip on panel to panel storytelling.
Kudos for making a great non-average choice. And Zub on the story is a fantastic choice.
His Skullkickers is a must read for comic fantasy fans. If you haven't read it yet, get to the store. I've been a fan of his since issue #1.

Thanks for the encouraging words and enthusiasm, gang. I'm working hard to make the Pathfinder comic enjoyable and engaging for long time fans and new readers alike.
Check out some of my initial thoughts on writing the comic over on my blog:
