As Miril slides into the shadows, Pan looks at Konstantin, with a nod from the northerner, she follows Miril.
Anevia looks at the sky, "Soon." Motioning to the bridge, she shrugs, "I can take people in from the stairs, those doors are probably locked."
As you get closer to the bottom, you get the feeling that something isn't quite right. The sprigs and bits of grass near the pillars are trampled but it doesn't look like any of it has been eaten. There does seem to be a number of bones trampled by the oxen's hooves.
Míril Celegeth |
Very quietly Míril points out the strangeness to Pan. She looks intently at the oxen to see if she can puzzle out what is going on.
Unfortunately I don't think Míril has any relevant skills here, so she's going for a real broad guess here. Can she tell if the oxen are breathing or otherwise have signs of life (as opposed to undead oxen)? Is there something marking these oxen as being demonic in origin (red eyes, sigil on the forehead, etc)?
She will creep a little closer if need be to get as close enough a look as she needs. She'll caution Pan to stay back if she does need to get closer. If she can tell from here, though, she'll stay put.

Roshan cocks his head, hesitates for the briefest moment, then silently follows as well. just in case another hand, or blade, is needed

The oxen definitely look alive and they have no obvious demonic tinge to them. But their horns look awfully long.
And as you move to get a better angle on the nearest, it stamps the ground with a bloody hoof, it nostril flaring, it moves in your direction to the utmost of the chain that constraints it to within 20-feet of the pillar and you notice its teeth are sharp and pointed.
"A little locked door never stopped any of us." Samirah says with a casual wave of her hand. "So when Miril and Roshan are able to free those beasts, should we split our group to take both sides of the bridge?"
"Splitting four ways isn't fun, but we could make it work." Anevia considers the bridge, "How far close do you have to be to summon a freezing field, Konstantin?"

"I don't like this," says Míril as quietly as she can and still be understood by Pan and Roshan. "I'm going to try sneaking in there invisibly and then unchain them. I just hope they're only seeing me and not tracking me by scent."
She reaches into a pouch and pulls out a phial that she has labelled in her own handwriting. (And if neither Pan nor Roshan stop her.) Míril drinks her Potion of Invisibility.

Roshan's eyes note the cracked bones, bloody hooves, overly long and sharp horns and the one closest already pulling at its chain to get towards his half-elven friend. His concern is apparent in his eyes, but he shrugs helplessly, not having any more information then is already apparent to the three of them.
After a moments thought, he shakes his head then puts his fingers to his mouth as though kissing them, then draws them over his right shoulder dismissively before his thumb crosses his neck in a suggestive gesture of cutting his throat. He shrugs again, opens his hand and moves it towards Miril with an expression that tells her he is ceding the floor to her and pulls two chakram apparently meant to tell her, he will back her regardless of what she chooses should things go sideways.

"I still don't know how any of you communicate with Roshan," Konstantin says, turning to peer at the tieflings on the bridge. "The longer they take down there, the more time the lookouts have to spot us and spring the trap. Perhaps I should just magic missile the locks from here?"
Samirah Basri |
She looks down at Roshan and Miril. "I could sign to him, but I'm not sure if he would see it. I would say the magic missiles would be a good idea if they were sure to work in one hit; otherwise the oxen may panic and pull the supports before they're freed." She sighs. "Maybe I shall go down and see what is happening?"

She moves lightly on her feet, "Mostly just want to get going before they spot us or get alarmed by an army attacking by the north," she says the last of this with a hint of a smile.

He murmurs something to the gyrfalcon on his shoulder, and she takes flight, spiraling down to Roshan, Miril, and Pan.
"Maybe she will be better at charades than I," Konstantin mutters to himself.

"The pitiable land bound beats of burden are carnivores. Perhaps the one with red hair fears their fangs."

Konstantin removes his wand of magic missile. "I will give her a bit longer before I start shooting the locks off of them."
Míril Celegeth |
I'm not sure what Roshan and Pan would see, so I just spoilered this for you, so you can let them know what they pick up from all this.
Míril suppresses a sigh. Well, Míril, she thinks to herself, this is why they give you the big sacks of gold pieces.
Wanting to avoid the alert and annoying ox till later, Míril makes a wide circle around the oxen, looking to approach one (and its locks) from downwind, hoping to avoid having it smell her approaching.
Having picked her first ox, she mentally plans a route through the pillars, looking for a smooth path past all the locks. Once her path has been chosen, she hurries forward.
With the Invisibility on her, she's not going to worry as much about moving slowly. She should be quiet enough. She's more worried about getting quickly past the oxen. She'll be relying on her reflexes and the Invisibility to not get hit as she Disables the 8 locks.

Then the invisible person is followed by two hungry animals which bite at and attempt to gore the person that freed them from chained servitude. The third animal quickly joins the hunt, then the last.
Who seems to be more aware of the invisible hero add or manages to color it's horns with blood.
Above you see the guards looking over the side, pointing out the freed oxen, looking annoyed.
