Iolana Banderosi |
Iolana, seeing that the others seem to have things well in hand, steps up to the goblin that Colgrim is battling. Seeing Byron's mighty blow against their leader, though, she raises her morningstar triumphantly above her head and bellows.
"See, vermin! The might of the Everbloom has struck your vile leader down! So shall you all perish if you do not abandon your weapons and throw yourselves upon our mercies!"
Intimidate: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Intimidate check to cow the nearest goblin...sadly it doesn't seem likely to take. :P
DM_Darkmeer |
Goblin, failing his against the staggering might of Colgrim, falls to the ground, bleeding profusely from the gash the axe took.
The Goblin Dog takes the slice, although is bleeding quite handily from the blow, and looks to be recoiling from Dario's blow.
Byron, however, beheads the rat-goblin, Whitechin. A clean cut, all the way through the neck. Leaving both the blinded Goblin 4, as well as the very stunned Goblin Dog (from Dario's blow). As the head rolls around on the ground, you realize it's changing back into the 'familiar' visage of the white-bearded goblin.
GM Rolls:
Goblin: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Goblin Dog: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18[/dice]
[ooc]Given it's GenCon, I understand a wee delay. I'm happy to say that this combat will be over VERY soon.[/b]
Group 1:
Stanley > Barnabus > Leeka
Group 2:
Whitechin (???/???)
Goblin Singer (-3/9)
Goblin 1 (4/13)
Goblin 2 (-3/13)
Goblin 3 (sub 13, unconscious)
Goblin 4
Goblin Dog 1 (2/9)
Group 3:
Dario > Byron > Colgrim (22/24 HP) > Iolana
Stanley Sydell |
Stanley cautions, "This battle is not yet ended, though your celebrations are not unfounded nor unwarranted. Let us finish the others and be done with it." With that he tries to cause the the uninjured and blinded goblin to drop. "The fight is over, even if you can't see it is so. Your end is near. For your sake it would be swift and painless if you were not to be aware of it. Sleep the eternal sleep."
Slumber on Goblin 4 DC 15 Will save (2 rds)
Iolana Banderosi |
"Indeed," Iolana says with a grim smile, hefting her morningstar to a less showy, more practical grip. "Let us finish them!"
I'm still here, just waiting for people ahead in initiative to post so I can respond accordingly! ;)
DM_Darkmeer |
I'd like to see what Byron does, I'll post after he does. If it helps, the Goblin's save is thus:
Goblin 4 Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Goblin will be a helpless foe. Leeka and anyone else will be able to hit, he will remain unable to react.
The Goblin Dog is hissing horribly at Dario... waiting for its turn to strike.
Byron Radanavich |
Sorry, I did not realise that you were waiting on me.
Byron circles around to a flanking position on the goblin dog, and takes a swing!
Greatsword: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 2 = 14, for 2d6 + 6 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 + (1) + 1 = 14 non-lethal damage.
Leeka Fullbottle |
In that case, coup de gras time, but Leeka will let someone with a big sword do the honours.
If however, there is nobody close enough... Coup de gras damage: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5
DM_Darkmeer |
With the Goblin taken care of, Dario accepts a defensive position.
The Goblin Dog Attacks him!
Attack Dario: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Sadly, the goblin dog doesn't have much luck.
Party is back up and the remaining combatants are listed.
Group 1:
Dario > Byron > Colgrim (22/24 HP) > Stanley > Barnabus > Iolana > Leeka
Group 2:
Goblin Dog 1 (2/9)
Byron Radanavich |
"I know a fighting ring or two that could make use of some goblins and giant rodents as 'filler'... trust me, I am not keeping them alive for altruistic reasons..."
Throwing caution to the wind, Byron takes another swing at the dog!
Greatsword: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 2 = 16, for 2d6 + 6 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 + (5) + 1 = 22 non-lethal damage.
Leeka Fullbottle |
"I know a fighting ring or two that could make use of some goblins and giant rodents as 'filler'... trust me, I am not keeping them alive for altruistic reasons..."
Throwing caution to the wind, Byron takes another swing at the dog!
Greatsword: 1d20+5+2, for 2d6+6+1d6+1 non-lethal damage.
That is absolutely hilarious! :D:D:D
Dario Westone |
Between Byron and Colgrim, I think that does it.
Dario steps back as the last goblin is cut down. "Well, I suppose that ends the reign of Whitechin. What the hell was he anyway? Some sort of were-goblin?" He kicks corpse.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Iolana Banderosi |
Iolana lowers her morningstar with a heavy sigh, rolling her shoulders as the dust settles and she feels Milani's blessing dissipate. Taking a moment to glare at Byron, she announces, "No one's going to be delivering these goblins into enslavement. Any that aren't dead now, we might as well bind up and drop somewhere the watch will find them. Or just dispatch them ourselves." Stowing her shield and morningstar, she begins to search the area around Whitechin's throne. "Let's see if these goblins have anything that might be of use to our cause..."
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
As she rummages, she calls out, "Is anyone injured? I can provide some healing, if needed."
Leeka Fullbottle |
"RRRRRAAAAWWWWRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!" Leeka suddenly starts screaming, apparently in a bit of a rage. She kicks and kicks one of the goblin dog things until it falls into the centre pool.
"This was EASY!" she rages. "One Hellknight and a couple drunk Dotari could have cleaned this whole nest out on their lunch break! The people of this neighbourhood have been living in terror while their babies are eaten and they could have stopped it in an hour!"
She looks about in shock at the faces of her companions, seems to realize that she might have just lost it a bit, and begins searching Whitechin's body, very roughly, with her head down.
Byron Radanavich |
Byron nods in the direction of Whitechin's body.
"We should probably display that somewhere prominent, to advertise our victory, and the fact that there is one less terror stalking the streets!"
Searching the room and/or bodies, do we find any interesting loot? :-)
Dario Westone |
"Of course." Dario's tone is like if someone asked him if he could walk. He takes the scroll and examines it.
Read magic
"I think hanging the body where people will find it, though not an obvious public place, is smart. Perhaps we can test out our symbol idea too."
Iolana Banderosi |
Iolana frowns, lips pursing as she thinks. "While it seems barbaric, I agree that the people at large have to know that Whitechin is dead. In fact..." She smiles suddenly. "They should know that Whitechin is dead, and that the dotari and the Hellknights did not kill him. Perhaps we could leave him in a place sure to be discovered, with a message, saying something along the lines of, 'Whitechin's menace is ended, thanks not to the dotari or the Hellknights, but to the Free Citizens of Westcrown.' Stir up in the rest of the populace the realization that Leeka had earlier." And I must remember to help her channel that rage later... Glancing at the others, she asks, "What do you think?"
Stanley Sydell |
Stanley nods, although with lips pursed, "Though I agree that the use of the body is a little crude, but we need proof behind our deeds, and sadly this may be the only way. Beyond the sign with the name of our organization, however, I think we should apply some type of symbol to make the association understood. Perhaps apply one of the bandannas we wear, by possibly tying it around his arm, or using it to hold the sign on him."
Dario Westone |
"I think if he's hung or even slumped in front of a 'W' encircled by 9 stars, then it will be a pretty clear symbol. Especially the next time it's seen."
"I would avoid anything further that might tie us specifically to the act. What we don't want is for people to begin to associate us with the Free Children too quickly. It would be very tempting to betray one of us then. Perhaps eventually when the citizenry is more loyal to the cause, but not now."
Stanley Sydell |
Stanley looks sideways at Dario, "I am not certain I follow what the 'W' and stars signify, and besides, we are the 'Free Citizens of Westcrown', not 'Children'. That's almost exactly what we want, is it not? We want the city to know that there is a group out there that stands for doing right by them, when the government cannot. The more we can get the name out there, then the more it means with each act we perform."
Iolana Banderosi |
Iolana frowns. "Hm. No, Dario has a point--the family we talked to knows our faces, at least, so they could be forced to describe us if they were found. But I don't believe any of them know our names, so I think it's worth the small risk to establish our moniker."
Dario Westone |
Dario holds up his hands. "I apologize. 'Free Citizens' is what I meant. As for the symbol, some of us were considering the use of a symbol like this as a calling card for our movement. A symbol is something which can't die, and could be spread by others if they begin to believe."
"We debated many things, and this symbol, a 'W' surrounded by 9 stars was one we thought was promising. It harkens back to the the glory days of the city, when Westcrown was known as the City of Stars rather than the City of Twilight. Back before the Thrunes, Westcrown was a jewel of civilization. We hope the symbol sparks some feeling of pride among the people." Dario's tone turns very academic, speaking of the history of the city.
DM_Darkmeer |
Whitechin's shortswords are most decidedly not dogslicers. These are very good quality blades. The remaining goblins carried dogslicers... which were less valuable (and remained unlisted, as they have no appreciable value at the moment).
The trip out of the sewers is much more quiet than expected, with nary a goblin, torble, or even a rogue hellknight traipsing through with the party.
By the time the group finds their way out of the sewers, it is dusk, with most folks here this section of Westcrown hiding in their homes, as lanterns are not found in this section except along the main road and the Westchannel. People scurry about, keeping their heads down and hurrying their children along as they move through the quickly dimming streets. The good news, is that you haven't left Rego Cader, but you are far from home, and the last patrols of the evening, before the great torches are lit, will be passing by soon.
Iolana Banderosi |
Iolana nods, looking around with worry. "Indeed. We should get under cover as soon as possible...as much to avoid patrols as for fear of whatever shadowy beasts stalk the streets."
Iolana Banderosi |
Iolana relaxes slightly at that suggestion. "I had not thought of that--your profession may come in useful after all." She smiles at the dwarf. "Before we head for home, though, let us alert the goodwoman that Whitechin is slain."
DM_Darkmeer |
The woman, whom Iolana finds is home fatigued, but in much better shape than you left her. She exclaims her gratitude that you have removed the menace of Whitechin.
The darkened streets, while not an uncommon sight, are not exactly 'normal,' given the curfew in place and the lack of light.
One of the Dottari patrols, a sergeant in fact, looks to Colgrim and notes he's not on duty, but otherwise lets the group pass.
Where to?
