Alset Kirk |
Round 4, Init 20, HP 13/13, Bolts 7/10, Smite Evil 1/1
Correction of incorrectly reduced HP.
Alset thinks to himself, if the grippli jumps it will get away as it appears to be able to handle the long drop to the ground. So, I'll take another shot and run outside the fort to the east to see if I can cut off his escape.
Bolt at Grippli/Damage: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 171d10 ⇒ 4
Alset doesn't look to see if he hit his intended target, but immediately moves through the broken gate and heads east. When he gets to the SE corner, he will look cautiously and quickly to the north with the trained eye and instincts of a fighter before proceeding with speed to the NE corner unsheathing his long sword while on the move.
Perception of the east side of the fort: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Kargold "Stonewall"Steelpounder |
Round 4
Init 20
HP 12/12
Stonewall runs from the NW tower to the NE Tower, dropping his flail and drawing a javelin as he runs. "Don't let it get away!"
GM Mervikoth |
Round 4, HP X-7/X
Alset's bolt sinks into the grippli, though the creature does not seem concerned about it. Alset is able to move near the gate before his heavy armor slows him down.
You only have 20 feet of movement.
Odie is up, then Ood.
Odie Ross |
Round 4:
Initiative: 16
HP: 5/16
Rage: Enabled
2/6 rounds remaining after this post
"I'M COMING FOR YOU TINY FROG MAN!"
Odie continues to sprint towards the frog. Once outside, he will attempt to climb the wall.
Climb: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
GM Mervikoth |
Odie fails to climb up the logs to the top of the tower.
Ood is up.
GM Mervikoth |
Ood succesfully scales the wall and stands atop the building. The parapets are another 5 feet above you.
DC 15 to scale up to the parapets. Also, I assumed you used your second move action to lift yourself up all the way to the top of the building. You can forgo your standard (attack) action and downgrade it to another move action in Pathfinder.
The grippli closes one eye and nocks another arrow aimed straight at the angry half-orc. She says something in Grippli that sounds like a boastful one-liner.
Arrow at Odie: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 221d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
The half-orc takes a third arrow to the chest and he collapses in a final roar of rage.
Odie is at -5 and dying (he loses the bonus HP from raging). Odie will roll a DC 10 Constitution check minus his negative HP total (-5). Each round of failure results in a loss of 1 HP. A success means he doesn't lose an HP, but he's not stabilized. A natural 20 auto stabilizes him, as does a DC 15 Heal check. If his negative HP total equals his Con score (15) he's dead.
Alset is up.
I think I've discovered the party's weakness: ranged attacks.
Alset Kirk |
Round 5, Init 20, HP 13/13, Bolts 6/10, Smite Evil 1/1
Hearing Odie's scream, Alset stops before he reaches the gate, detects evil, turns, and fires another bolt at the grippli.
Normal Bolt at Grippli/Damage: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 91d10 ⇒ 8
Or if evil is detected, Smite Evil on the grippli
SE Bolt at Grippli/Damage: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 81d10 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 AC 19 + 1 = 20
Seeing that Odie has fallen, "Die grippli, die!"
Alset (SMH), "I need to get up there, this crossbow is misaligned." Alset assesses the fastest way to the top and heads in that direction.
Kargold "Stonewall"Steelpounder |
Round 5
Init 20
HP 12/12
Stonewall hurls his javelin at the frogman with all his strength.
Attack(Javelin): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Damage(Javelin): 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Also, we weren't very smart about terrain...
Stonewall searches for some way to get up onto the tower.
perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
GM Mervikoth |
Alset thinks the fastest way up is the ladder Stonewall took before. Seeing Ood and Odie struggle against the logs looks painful for him and his heavy armor.
Stonewall misses with his javelin, the small frog dodging easily. He also sees no way up save for scaling the outer walls like the frog did.
Odie is up, then Ood.
Odie Ross |
Sadly no screaming now, just a Constitution save.
Round 5
Status: dying and fatigued
HP: real bad (I didn't have my fatigued sheet in front of me but it's probably -5?)
Odie fall silent for the first time in what seems like forever.
Beloved, if only the frog thing had not fled like a coward...
con save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
GM Mervikoth |
Odie remains at his current HP and status.
Ood is up and on top of the east building.
GM Mervikoth |
Ood's post is in the discussion thread: LINK.
Ood scales the wall and is now on the parapets.
Round 6, Init 24, HP X-7/X
The grippli pulls a small sack from her belt and tosses it at Stonewall.
Tanglefoot Bag, touch AC: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Stonewall Ref save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Stonewall is covered in sticky tar and resin dripping all over his armor and gluing him to the floor.
Stonewall takes a -2 to attacks, -4 to Dex, and cannot move. He can break free by making a DC 17 Str check, or dealing 15 slashing damage to the goo. No attack roll required, just a damage roll. Once free he can move at half speed. In 3 rounds the tangelfoot bags loses its effectiveness in 3 rounds.
Rounds remaining: 2d4 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3
Odie Ross |
Round 6:
Initiative: 16
HP: -3/14
Rage: Nope
2/6 rounds remaining
Odie will roll a DC 10 Constitution check(+2) minus his negative HP total (-3). Each round of failure results in a loss of 1 HP. A success means he doesn't lose an HP, but he's not stabilized. A natural 20 auto stabilizes him, as does a DC 15 Heal check. If his negative HP total equals his Con score (15) he's dead.
Literaly Dying: 1d20 + 2 - 3 ⇒ (7) + 2 - 3 = 6
HP Update: -4/14
Kargold "Stonewall"Steelpounder |
Round 6
Init 20
HP 12/12
Stonewall drops his shield Move action which lets me draw a weapon? and pulls a small green flask from his belt. He yells "Take this!" and throws the flask at the frog.
Ranged Touch Attack (Acid Flask): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2 and 1 damage to it and all creatures within 5 feet? me?
Wow, should have just chunked a javelin at her...
GM Mervikoth |
Alset detects no presence of evil the previous round.
Stonewall drops his sheild and grabs a flask in one move, and then splashes the frog with acid, the liquid splashing around the rooftop but not falling on anyone below. Don't forget the -4 Dex and -2 attack. You still hit however.
Odie struggles against the arrow wounds and continues to bleed.
Ood runs through the tower's room and stands by his dying ally and fellow dwarf.
Alset is up. Though technically Alset is also first, lol.
Kargold "Stonewall"Steelpounder |
The -2 was cancelled out by me dropping my shield. But I forgot about the dex.
Alset Kirk |
Round 6, Init 20, HP 13/13, Bolts 5/10, Smite Evil 1/1
Alset senses that he can't get upstairs quick enough to help with the fight, but knows that he needs to be there soon to help Odie heal. Alset moves toward the NE corner of the fort interior and reluctantly releases another bolt at the grippli. I'm coming Odie, but not fast enough.
Bolt at Grippli/Damage: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 41d10 ⇒ 10 "Of course, off target, again! At least I didn't hit one of the dwarves."
Round 7, Init 20, HP 13/13, Bolts 4/10, Smite Evil 1/1
Alset reaches the NE corner of the fort interior. Pulling out his healing potion flask for Odie, he blows a sharp whistle at the dwarves, proffers the flask, and tosses the it to whichever one looks willing to catch it. "This is to heal Odie. But, hurry. He doesn't look like he'll last long."
Do I need to roll for the toss? Will a 'take 10' do?
GM Mervikoth |
Round 6, Init 24, X-7/X
The grippli draws another arrow and shoots at the acid-tossing dwarf who is now without his shield to protect him.
What's Stonewall's AC without his shield?
Arrow: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 281d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Critical Confirmation roll: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
The arrow finds the one opening in Stonewall's armor.
The crit is not confirmed, I think your AC is 18. Whew. Only 9 damage.
Alset tosses the potion upwards gently for either dwarf to catch it with a free hand.
Potion Toss: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
No roll required to catch it. The DC was only 5 anyway.
Stonewall is up. Odie has already bled out some more this turn, so after Stonewall is Ood.
Kargold "Stonewall"Steelpounder |
He gets 4 for the tower shield plus 1 for shield focus so 18
Also, can I catch the potion and give it to Odie in one turn?
Also, shouldn't this thing be down 2 or 3 more HP from the acid?
Round 7
Init 20
HP 3/12
Stonewall catches the expertly lobbed potion and bends over to give it to Odie and pours it in his mouth while the arrow protrudes from him. This is ridiculous!
GM Mervikoth |
You are correct, it's -9 including the acid. Odie is now at 2 HP! I don't know how his fatigued from raging works with going dead in the middle of it. Odie will have to redo his turn now that he's conscious.
CLW Potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Ood Ironforged |
Round 6
Init 12
HP 12/12
Ood hurls 2 shuriken at the frog creature in a flurry of blows.
shuriken attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 61d2 ⇒ 1
shuriken flurry: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 211d2 ⇒ 1
Will this creature ever stop!
Shuriken 8/10
Odie Ross |
HP: 2/14
Status: fatigued
Odie sits up and says "Did I get it? Did I avenge my pig?"
A fatigued character can neither run nor charge and takes a –2 penalty to Strength and Dexterity. Doing anything that would normally cause fatigue causes the fatigued character to become exhausted. After 8 hours of complete rest, fatigued characters are no longer fatigued.
Oh man, that's rough.
GM Mervikoth |
Round 8, X-13/X
Ood's second shuriken digs into the frog's arm.
The grippli fires another shot, this time at the monk, but the wound seems to have thrown off her aim. She croaks and then moves to the back of the tower.
Arrow at Ood: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 141d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Alset.
Alset Kirk |
Round 8, Init 20, HP 13/13, Bolts 4/10, Smite Evil 1/1
Alset moves back toward the center of the fort to get a better view of the grippli. He steels himself, takes a deep breath, lets half of it out, locks in on the grippli, waits for his heart to beat, and fires another bolt.
Bolt at grippli/Damage: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 41d10 ⇒ 6
Alset raised the surely defective crossbow over his head as if to dash it to pieces on the stone pavement. But, remembering his discipline and self-control training, he lowers the weapon and considers what are the best options for the group.
Seriously? {SMH} Another attack roll of six or less. That's four attacks out of five that have been a six or less (in order 19, 6, 5, 4, 1, 1). Next I'll be rolling zeroes. I want new dice, these must be faulty. In a table top adventure, I would have switched dice twice by now.
Kargold "Stonewall"Steelpounder |
Round 8
Init 20
HP 3/12
Stonewall prepares himself to boost either Odie or Ood up onto the roof. Whoever seems more capable or willing. "Come on, I'll help you up, we need to stop it from getting away!"
Odie Ross |
"It still lives!? I must repay it for what it did to Beloved!"
Odie stands up the rest of the way No longer delaying and looks for his sword.
GM Mervikoth |
Stonewall is giving a +2 to whoever accepts his help on their next climb check.
Ood is up, then the frog, if it still lives...
Ood Ironforged |
Ood accepts the help from Stonewall saying "By Kols this frog will fall"
Ood attempts to climb the tower with a boost from Stonewall
climb: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 3 + 2 = 25
critical climb or am I taking critical too far, also, Alset, try these dice; hands dice to Alset's puppetmaster
Ood with Stonewall's aid launches himself to the top of the tower and closes the distance as able
GM Mervikoth |
Ood leaps gracefully over the top of the tower and lands directly in front of the grippli's shocked face, her bulbous red eyes even more bulbous at Ood's spider-like ability to climb.
That's what we need!
Round 8, X-13/X
The grippli, with nowhere to run, draws another arrow to fire at Ood.
Ood, you get an Attack of Opportunity, which is a single free attack against the grippli. Unless she dies, she fires at you from point-blank range.
Arrow at point blank: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 151d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
The shot goes wide, the lightning fast hands of Ood too distracting to fire accurately.
Alset, take her down!
Ood Ironforged |
Round 8?
Init 12
HP 12/12
Shuriken 8/10
"take that!" Ood says as he attempts to cripple to the grippli with a punch.
punch attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 121d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
GM Mervikoth |
Ood misses with his punch.
Alset is up.
Alset Kirk |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Round 9, Init 20, HP 13/13, Bolts 3/10, Smite Evil 1/1
Alset stands, somewhat frustrated near the center of the compound. He nocks another bolt and casually aims at the grippli, calls on Iomedae, pulls the release, and . . .
Bolt ->Grippli / Damage: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 181d10 ⇒ 7
breathes a sigh of relief as the bolt, aided by a sudden crosswind, finds its target. "Yes!," raising his shield in excitement.
He quickly lowers his shield and removes the grin from his face. "Act like you've been here before. Don't show your new companions too much emotion. Control and discipline are the words. You're a paladin after all."
"Thank you, Iomedae.," slightly bowing his head in a brief moment of gratitude.
GM Mervikoth |
The grippli is bleeding visibly, but still stands.
20 damage total to it so far. Stonewall is up.
Kargold "Stonewall"Steelpounder |
Round 9
Init 20
HP 3/12
Stonewall shakes his feet to break himself free of the suddenly brittle tanglefoot gunk that is on him, takes as deep a breath as he can with the arrow in him and prepares to help Odie up onto the tower.
If we have to fight more of these things, we are in trouble...
Ood Ironforged |
Ood unleashed a flurry of punches left then right upon the Grippli.
punch non-lethal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 201d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
punch non-lethal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 211d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Ood shouts to his companions, "I think we got him. Look careful in case any others are about."
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
GM Mervikoth |
Splat! The grippli squishes beneath the twin pummeling fists of Ood like, well, a squished frog. She slumps unconscious onto the roof of the tower.
Combat is over.
Ood surveys the top of the tower, not seeing any other signs of life within in the compound. The danger has, for now, passed. The unconscious grippli reveal a plethora of treasure on her person, should the group decide to take her belongings.
She has: masterwork battleaxe, masterwork longbow, masterwork studded leather, 3 blood-red arrows, 14 regular arrows, 3 potions (take a sip to identify and roll Perception), antitoxin, defoliant, civet pelt, and 27 parrot feathers. Please add these to the Campaign Tracker as ya'll decide how to deal with them.
Appraise DC 20 to see how much each of these items are worth, DC 25 to see if they are magical (though you cannot tell what the magic does, only that it is indeed magical). You are free to take ten or twenty on these checks while the barbarian rests from raging. Remember, each time you take 20 is 2 minutes of game time. The current time is 11:10. Yes, you've only been at Fort Breakthrough for 10 minutes. You won't have to roll to climb up and down while out of combat.
Since she's unconscious, she won't wake up until her non-lethal damage is less than her current HP (14). She heals 1 nonlethal damage per hour, and has 19 nonlethal damage. She will be unconscious for 5 hours without additional healing. I'm assuming one of you performs a heal check on her to learn this information; no need to roll.
The group finds themselves near the northeast tower, in what was likely the grippli's makeshift home for the past few days. There is a lockbox next to a pile of straw and a ladder in the corner of the tower. The roof, where Ood is, has nothing of interest save the unconscious grippli and her belongings.
Alset Kirk |
"We need to thoroughly search the rest of the fort before we take what remains of the human bodies back to the city."
Alset retrieves any expended bolts that he can.
GM Mervikoth |
Ammunition Recovery: 1d2 ⇒ 11d2 ⇒ 11d2 ⇒ 11d2 ⇒ 11d2 ⇒ 11d2 ⇒ 11d2 ⇒ 2
Alset recovers 6 of his 7 bolts.
Odie Ross |
Odie realizes that Beloved is no longer with the group.
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Yelling into the forest from atop the tower:
"Beloved! Where did you go?! Come back the bad frog-man is dead!"
Then goes charging off into the forest after his precious pig. All thoughts of his own well-being, loot, and companions forgotten.
Please be alive. Please be alive. Please be alive. Please be alive. Please be alive. Oh deity, please be alive.
GM Mervikoth |
Hidden trap someone finally triggered: 1d100 ⇒ 10
In his distress, Odie blunders through the main gate looking for Beloved, only to set loose a board from the top of the parapet.
Falling Beam Trap: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 132d4 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
Odie, is your AC still 14 after being fatigued? If below 12, you take 3 more damage. The dice just do not like you...
The beam thunders down. If Odie is still standing, he sees a trail of pig's hoofprints leading back up the path northwards toward Pridon's Hearth and a little pink pig calmly trotting up the path a few hundred feet away.
Odie Ross |
AC is 13 when fatigued! I live!
HP: 2/14
"BELOVED! You're alive!"
They run toward each other in slow motion across a meadow filled with flowers and butterflies, arms spread, totally emersed in the joy of their reunion. Odie picks her up in his arms and swings her around, smiling the whole time.
"Now, let's go get our portion of the loot!" as they turn around together and head back to the fort of death.
Kargold "Stonewall"Steelpounder |
Stonewall picks up his flail, Igvir and his javelin as he runs after Odie as fast as he can but is losing ground until he hears him yell and realizes he has already found Beloved. Finally, some good luck, now I don't have to track it down. I'm going to need to talk to the others about him.. Stonewall decides to go explore the parts of the fort they haven't seen yet. He accesses them through the NE tower.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
If he gets a chance, he has a private moment with the other two and says "I might not have planned appropriately earlier when I gave Odie a specific task. He had said something about roles for each of them as they left Pridon's Hearth.. I don't think we can plan on Odie following any plans made before combat, so we will just have to plan accordingly and be flexible."
I'm for dividing loot in character. Also. I was going to look through the rest of the fort and then take 20 on perception for the whole thing.
Ood Ironforged |
Ood retrieves what shuriken he can find.
shuriken recovery: 1d2 ⇒ 21d2 ⇒ 2 ?
While Odie and Stonewall went to retrieve Beloved, Ood start tossing down the non breakables with the frog and pulls the frog and the breakables down more carefully. I need to find some rope to secure this creature. "Hey, didn't we see a rope somewhere?"
Alset, and Odie how are you? You both took some blows from his bow.
