Lost Kingdom: Claiming the Throne of Thorns
Mondays, 7:30pm-11:30pm EST
The King has become determined to reclaim the Lost Kingdom, a mysterious, dangerous, and hotly contested area of the world. This Kingdom was once ruled by Sidhe elders, and the King has finally discovered incontrovertible proof of ancestral ties to these ancient rulers. He has chosen his champions to explore and secure the area for the Kingdom, and promised much in the way of reward for doing so.
LK:CTT is a sandboxy adventure of exploration and conquest in the spirit of Kingmaker with inspirations taken from The Game of Thrones.
Characters are built on a 20 point buy; however, no abilities may be sold down below 10 before racial modifiers. Starting level is 5, starting wealth is 10,500 gp. No racial or class restrictions (Dreamscarred Press’ Psionics are allowed, other 3PP press will likely be approved after review, so feel free to get creative.) Remember you’ll be taking a role in the leadership of a Kingdom; being well-rounded will result in a better experience than min-maxing. Hit points maxed for 1st 2 levels, ½HD+1 for every level after that.
Hero Points will be used (might have helped avoid a tpk last game). PCs start with 3 Hero points (except any pc who chooses the Touched by Fate campaign trait, below, will start with 4.)
Kingdom Building Rules will be used in this game (eventually). We will be handling them via the Gameplay tab of this Campaign on the Paizo Boards. Participation will be optional, more information to follow.
Lost Kingdom: Claiming the Throne of Thorns Campaign Traits
Characters chose one of the following Traits. In addition, they may choose 2 traits from other categories.
Adventurer, Criminal, Outcast : All these things and worse you’ve been called. You know the seedy underbelly of the Kingdom and can work it to your liege’s advantage. Whenever an Arena, Black Market, Foreign Quarter, Pier, Tavern, Tenement, or Waterfront is built in your Kingdom, you can increase one of the benefits or reduce the unrest generated by the block by 1. This modification must be chosen when the block is constructed
Bastard’s Sire : You have coupled with one of noble blood, and the resulting child was born out of wedlock. Rather than being cast aside, however, you have been marginally accepted. You may increase your Kingdom’s Economy, Loyalty, or Stability by 2 (chosen each Kingdom turn), but unrest is increased by 1 as rabble rousers sew doubt to your claim.
Called In Dreams : Something ancient calls to you in your dreams. You dream of the Lost Kingdom, and know these dreams to be true. You increase any one benefit granted per discovered resource in the lost kingdom, chosen when the hex containing the resource is claimed.
Champion of the Faith : Your support for the kingdom’s primary religion is undeniable. Your fervor is unshakable. Your zeal attracts others of the faith, reducing the cost to construct (in BP) any religious buildings by 50%.
Clan Survivor : Your clan used to inhabit the place known as the lost kingdom before its current rulers destroyed your clan. You are one of the few survivors, and have personal knowledge of your corner of the lost kingdom. Choose one hex on the Lost Kingdom map. This hex is considered explored by any party you are a member of, and may be claimed without paying the normal 1BP cost (it still must be cleared of monsters and hazards first, however.) Any resources on that hex provide an additional +2 benefit to the Kingdom (chosen by you) when claiming the hex.
Distinguished Citizen : You are a honored knight, guild leader, or other non-noble-blooded person of distinction in the kingdom. Your reputation garners additional support for your fledgling Kingdom in the form of 6BP being added to the initial kingdom funds, as well as a +1 loyalty modifier.
Kingsaver : You’ve had a personal hand in saving the King’s life. You’re a bonafide hero in the Kingdom, and you have the declaration to prove it. Holiday and Promotion Edicts have one less consumption in a Kingdom you have a leadership role in. Additionally, the Kingdom starts with 2 Fame or Infamy points instead of 1 (your choice.)
Lineage of the Ancients : Somewhere in your family is the blood of the ancient rulers of the lost kingdom. Your Kingdom gains a +5 modifier on the rolls for Diplomatic and Exploration edicts dealing with lost kingdom neighbors.
Noble Blood-Ignoble Birth : You’re a bastard born, have a bit of “other” in your blood that boiled to the surface, or have some other trait that makes your very nature shameful to the Kingdom, but you’re still of noble blood, and the reclamation of the Lost Kingdom and the Throne of Thorns is your chance to prove that strength. If you take the role of Ruler in the Kingdom building, all experience gained for leadership milestones is increased by 10% for the party.
Noble Blood-Lesser House : You’re a noble, cousined to the Crown. Your house is a rising star, but has far to travel. The reclamation of the Throne of Thorns is the opportunity your house has been waiting for and you’re its best chance of success. Your house provides extra effort and supplies to build up the fledgling kingdom, providing 2BP per month as long as you are in a leadership position.
Noble Blood-Ward of King : Your noble house was defeated by the King and his allies, and you have had the “privilege” of being his ward in order to maintain the peace. He has treated you equitably and with respect. The reclamation of the Throne of Thorns is your opportunity to distinguish yourself in service to the King- or perhaps to break free from your prison. In either case, your desire to prove yourself goes beyond the normal efforts of lesser beings. Your relevant ability score is counted as being two higher than it is for purposes of the bonus granted to your leadership role.
Touched By Fate : You’re fated for something big, something worthy of legend. You gain a hero point. Every even level, you gain 2 hero points instead of 1. Your maximum Hero Points is raised to 4 (normally 3.)
