Lot 6 - Book of extended summoning

Farmer Odell wrote:
Farmer raises a paddle at going twice.

The bidding between Farmer and the white-clad merchant (the male one). As the price of the book rises a furrow forms on the brow of the other Kaliostrat (the female one). She attempts to get the attention of her trading partner but only manages to do so as Farmer lays down his paddle, ceasing to bid.

The male Kaliostrat sits, a superior grin on his face. A grin which fades as the female whispers to him in a sharp hiss.

Perception DC 16:
"You just paid 200 gold over fair market value."

Lot 7 - Flesh golem manual

Another book - this time the one whose cover has been carefully stitched together from no less than 10 different skins. Cautiously, one of the two black-clad merchants matches the opening bid, looking only towards the Chosk. Almost visibly hoping that whatever mad spirit caused the last round of bidding to cycle skyward so quickly has passed.

Lot 8 - Manual of war

The final of the magically imbued books that were uncovered on the Hunclay grounds. This time it is the female Kalistrat who opens the bidding, her eyes occasionally jumping over to Farmer with almost a dare for the large man to bid.

Willem:
The woman doesn't respond to that for a long time, instead watching the play of shadow and light over the moving surface of the river. When she finishes her cup, she opens each of the small fuel compartments, knocking out the ashes and adding new tinder. Once she finishes resetting the teapot so that Willem will have a pot for himself, she rises.

"There is far too much blame floating around this town for it to rest all on your shoulders." As she spots Bophre running back to the field, she sketches a small bow.

Picnic Group:
A darkness in the smoke that makes up Maffei clears slightly when Aka makes her explanation, "Oh! Sustenance." Then the head tilts to the side, "What determines that inner flesh is good for sustenance and the exterior flesh is not?" Pointing at the orange.

Picnic Group:

"Ants", Fenyx mentions with a mouthful of food. He gulps.
"Sorry, a part of our studies involves observations of the animals and plants. I was never really good at it but I did watch as ants will avoid the skin of fruit and try to consume the inner flesh that you are enjoying." Fenyx continues on his lunch.

Bid wars Lot 8 Flesh Golem Manual:

I think the numbering is one behind
Fenyx nearly oblivious to the two merchants raises his paddle to match the opening bid.
Bluff: 1d20 ⇒ 20
I laughed quite maniacally after seeing the result of the roll.

Female Human Paladin 6

Picnic Group:
"Well." Akatsuki says, eyes looking away in thought, "from what I've heard the outer rind might actually be better for you, but..." she picks up a piece, cleans it and takes a small bite, face twisting at the bitterness, "it tastes like crap." she promptly takes a mouthful of water, swooshes it around and spits it out, then takes a bite of bread, trying to get rid of the taste on her tongue.
Finally she speaks again, "I guess you might be able to develop a taste for it, but I think I'd only eat it if I couldn't find anything else. ...but anyway, yeah, so what do you enjoy for ... sustenance."

Picnic Group:
Quote:
I was never really good at it but I did watch as ants will avoid the skin of fruit and try to consume the inner flesh that you are enjoying." Fenyx continues on his lunch.

"Oh yeah, huh" Aka comments, indicating she had seen as much, but never thought it through.

Male Human Spellscar Oracle 6

Perception DC 16: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Lot 8 - Manual of War

Farmer turns the full force of his attention to the female Kalistrat, and smiles.

His paddle goes up on going twice.

Numbers:

Bluff: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

Again, Farmer is more interested in running up the price than purchasing the item.

Female Human Sorcerer/6

Pasara seems pleased that the birds are going to a good home.

While Farmer's bidding antics go on, she feeds the parrot nuts occasionally, while trying not to show that she noticed being stared at.

Bluff: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

Lot 7 - Flesh golem manual

Fenyx Spelljammer wrote:
Fenyx nearly oblivious to the two merchants raises his paddle to match the opening bid.

The bidding goes back and forth between Fenyx and the single black-clad merchant, but it lacks the invective and drive as the contest of will between Farmer and the Kaliotrat. The final outcome is one that the black-clad merchant can live with - ownership of the manual for a fair price, just not the jaw-droppingly low one that they originally hoped for.

Lot 8 - Manual of war

GM/Farmer:
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Farmer Odell wrote:

Farmer turns the full force of his attention to the female Kalistrat, and smiles.

She looks back, easily raising her paddle with one white-gloved hand. Back and forth, until the bidding is just barely below the fair market price - and Farmer sees, in the set of her jaw and the determination in her eyes, that this woman has no intention of paying more than the book is worth.

As such, Farmer does not enter the 'winning' bid and the female Kalistrat purchases the manual of war for 6,000 gp.

Lot 9 - Stuffed grizzly bear

At first, after the nine-plus tall stuffed creature is rolled onto the stage, there are no bids. Finally Grayhands lifts his paddle. "Might make a decent feature for the pub."

Sense Motive DC 15:
However, he does not seem to have his heart set on the dead beastie - so a counterbid will result in purchase, not driving up the purchase price.

Lot 10 - Assorted potions lot

The boy carries in a padded box. "Xemne was able to collaborate the identity of the current lot as two vials of oil of keen edge, a potion of undetectable alignment, a potion of protection from acid, and a potion of protection from fire. As all are most in line with luxury or adventuring tools, they will have a starting bid of 660 gp."

Bassy again rises to her feet, using Farmer as a support post, to place her bid at the starting price point.

Sense Motive DC 10:
No where near as excited about the potions as she had been about the astronomy books, it seems more to be on the rainy day principle.

Rolls:

...assuming I understood the bonuses right

Lot 10 - Assorted potions lot

Pasara Tanner wrote:

Bassy good-naturedly waves at Pasara and then uses Farmer to reseat herself.

Pasara wins the assorted potions lot for 1,320 gold. Per the agreement with Lady Devy, the baroness pays for half of the bid, meaning Pasara need to pay 660 gold to claim the potions. Assuming she does so, they are hers.

Farmer Odell wrote:

Looking a little discombobulated, the woman accepts her 'victory' with grace.

Lot 11 - Assorted scrolls

Chosk's child assistant bring a number of rolled parchments to the main stage. "Bassy," she waves, "our town historian, has verified this scrolls as a scroll of campfire wall, a scroll of excruciating deformation, a scroll of haunting mists, and a scroll of magic circle against chaos."

He motions to the audience, "Bids to start no lower than 255 gp."

Fenyx has expressed an interest in this lot so the opening bid will come from him.

Lot 12 - Hunclay's spellbooks

"The wizard Hunclay amassed a great deal of arcane knowledge before and during his tenure in Belhaim. Will will be starting the bidding for the entire lot of spellbooks at 4,000 gp - a pittance, no doubt, for the awesome arcane mastery contained within the pages."

A) Sense Motive DC 13:
You suspect that Chosk really doesn't have a clue how much the books would be worth, but he darn well plans to sell them.

Plus, acerbic tone.

Unless a PC starts the bidding, the bidding is opened by the (annoyed-looking) male Kalistrat.

Lot 13 - Bedroom Lot

The other of the two black clad merchants indicates interest with the opening bid of the finery from Hunclay's bedroom.

Lot 14 - Observatory Lot

"From the tower of the wizard, we have a number of devices for stargazing as well as starcharts and a few of the books that were related to the tower laboratory. Bidding will start at one thousand." The foppish half-orc opens the bidding.

B) Perception DC 15:
The man in the red hat sits up straighter, his eyes raking over the lot as it is brought onto the stage.]
B and C) Sense Motive DC 15:
He seems most interested in the books - although the specific titles can't be seen at this range.

Lot 11 - Assorted Scrolls

Fenyx Spelljammer wrote:

Fenyx paddles twice.

He mutters, "Lost on the damn book now I have to settle for this...."

Bassy, who had started the process of using Farmer as a balance bar, sits back down, waving at the elf with a grin.

Fenyx wins the scroll lot for 510 gp. As agreed, Lady Devy will be paying for half of the bid, so when Fenyx pays the 255 gp, the scrolls are his.

Lot 12 - Hunclay's spellbooks

The bidding goes back and forth between the white-clad Kalistrat and the black-clad merchants (although this time, the female Kalistrat keeps a much closer eye on her companion). The spellbooks do eventually go to the Kalistrat - but for a fair market value.

Lot 13 - Bedroom Lot

Quote:
The other of the two black clad merchants indicates interest with the opening bid of the finery from Hunclay's bedroom.

And their visit to Belhaim becomes profitable as they pick up the fine clothes and furnishings for a steal.

Lot 14 - Observatory Lot

Although Pickets opens the bidding, there quickly grows a competition between the half-orc, the red-hatted man, and the female Kalistrat. The white-clad merchant ends up the winner, but again for a fair market value.

Sense Motive DC 15:
The man in the red hat has a red face by the time the biding ends, clearly worried and getting far more worked up than such activity calls for.

Female Human Sorcerer/6

Rolls:

Taking 10 on the Perceptions, since I can easily beat the DC 15 that way. Also taking 10 on the DC 13 Sense Motive. But the other two Sense Motives I need to roll.

Lot 15 - Storage Lot

Only one bottle of wine is brought up to the stage. "The remainder of this lot has been left in place in the manor house so that the new owner could see to its proper removal." He holds up the bottle, the label faded and worn, "However, this particular vintage is the least valuable of the wares."

Farmer has indicated an interest in this lot. Starting bid is 500 gp.

A) Sense Motive DC 15:
The only other people who seem interested in the wine are Bassy and Arnholde.
A) Sense Motive DC 20:
Granted, Arnehold probably is more interested in a starlit picnic which features the wine and a certain blonde.

Lot 16 - Clockwork lab lot

A number of the gears and gizmos are brought onto the stage. Bidding is quick and fierce between the Kalistocrats, the black-clad merchants, and the foppish Pickets. Unless someone changes the balance of power, however, the white-clad Kalistocrats seem poised to win.

Lot 17 - Summoning journal

"Only this single book for this lot," Chosk says, "But it is filled with a wealth of knowledge about beings from the great beyond."

This time the red-hatted man opens the bidding, very quickly followed by both black and white clad merchants. Again, just the sheer volume of money the Kalistocrats brought with them make victory assured for them.

B) Sense Motive DC 15:
If/when the red topped man falls out of the bidding, his frustration and worry grow.

Lot 18 - Rare book lot

"Some of Hunclay's most precious tomes, discovered in a secondary location by our town's visiting heroes." Chosk motion to all of you sitting (or standing) in the front line of the theater.

Again, the red hatted man is quick to bid, his blue feather bobbing. This time it is the Kalistocrats and the half-orc Pickets who stymie him.

C) Sense Motive DC 13:
Red hatted man is incredibly frustrated. Really why he isn't screaming bloody murder is questionable.

Mostly in reading your fellow bidders and making yourself less readable. For instance, Red Hat was pretty easy to read."

After a small break to allow the tension of Red Hat's leaving, Chosk motions for the next lot to be brought up...

Lot 19 - Dust of Darkness

Just two double-fist sized bags this time. "The deep dark of night whenever you need it in a handy-dandy pouch sized bag." Although Bassy has the early bid, she just isn't willing to pay the full market price on an item that (you suspect) was going to be used to prank someone.

Lot 20 - Mithral scroll case

"Containing a scroll of permanency." Bidding to start at 300 gp.

Fenyx has expressed an interest in this lot and the bidding will start with him. However in the interest of not dragging this out too much (since Fenyx normally only gets a chance to post Hawaii time PM, this lot will be handled in flex-time.

A) Sense Motive DC 10:
The other interested parties seem to be... surprise surprise... the white and black clad merchants.

Lot 21 - The Hunclay Manor House

By this time the afternoon has faded to twilight and the start of evening. "Before we get to our final bid of the the Hunclay property, we are going to have a short break to allow the lighting of some torches."

In the pause as people stretch, Talia comes down from the back of the amphitheater and lets the group know that there will be food for them ready at the conclusion of the auction.

Once the torches and lanterns are lit, "Bidding for the manor house will start at 2,500 gp."

B) Perception DC 20:

At almost the exact same moment, Willem and Farmer see something in the dark shadows of the early evening sky.

Farmer casts Sanctuary on Bassy.

Willem waits for the creatures to draw close.

And come closer, they do. Five lanky, batlike humanoids land in the amphitheater. Four narrow eyes glow with a inner yellow light and a long tail snaps out to counterbalance their lanky bodies. Each is carrying a kukri made of a unusual glassy material.

As one lands near Willem, the nimble ratfolk leaps up close to one and giving it a face full of shot. The nimble creature manages to move dodge to one side, avoiding the spray of metal.

"The blades are likely voidglass," Willem exposits. "Enhances mental defenses... maybe they intend to think their way clear of a bullet."

Lot 21 will be put on hold on the grounds of COMBAT - Round 1

Farmer brings his hands around in front of his face, then together with an audible crack. He pushes them out ahead of him, and says, "Fly, Fifi, Fly!"

Fifi appears in a flanking position above the nearest bat-winged humanoid.

"Հարձակումը թռչող փնտրում արարածներ ենք," Farmer says.

Auran:
"Attack the bat-looking creatures please,"

Fifi attacks, slamming into its foe with powerful winds. Welts and bruises rise on the creature's flesh.

Willem reloads with solid shot and lets the creature have another blast. (AoO: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 221d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 71d4 ⇒ 2) As Willem shoots, the bat-man swipes at the rat with his voidglass kukri, a lucky strike against the nimble gunslinger. (Willem takes 7 hit points and 2 non-lethal. He also regains one grit.) However, Willem's shot is true, even more precise than when he wasn't harried by melee weapons. As the fine alchemical powder which propels the bullet sprays over the bat-man, its fur burns and catches fire as the creature falls to the floor of the theater.

Willem:
As the voidglass weapon cuts in and draws blood, Willem's mind is invaded by a violent psychic pulse from his attacker. Malice and hate pound at your mind, but is cut off suddenly as the creature goes unconscious.

Aka fires a single arrow into the closest bat creature closing on the crowd. The arrow hits deep and the creature hisses at Aka. "నేను వాటిని తినడానికి మీ కళ్ళు కటౌట్ వంటి నా బ్లేడ్ మీ శక్తి తో పాడే కనిపిస్తుంది."

Aklo:
"My blade will sing with your energy as I cut out your eyes to eat them."
Aka:
As the creature hisses at you in aklo, your mind is invaded by images of a cold barren world of ice. Aka on a obsidian altar being cut to pieces by a voidglass kukri.

And the monster she show plucking her eyes from her still living body and eating them.

At the same moment as Willem's comment about the strange weapons... "Those blades are probably voidglass! Hard as steel and will strengthen their mental abilities and defenses!" Pasara shouts to inform her friends.

Yeah, that'll confirm for Pasara that Sleep is not the way to go.

Pasara points at the bat-thing nearest to her and mumbles, and two magical bolts streak at the same creature as Aka's arrow. And proves their mental defenses do not help in the least bit against force damage.

"Again with the scary monsters..."

Fenyx sighs.

Spellcraft DC 16:
Fenyx casts mage armor on himself.

The creature on the stage uses its wings to charge Aka, kukri held at the ready. The blade just barely bites into the arm in which she holds her bow. Aka takes six point of damage and one point of non-lethal damage.

Aka:
As the voidglass weapon cuts in and draws blood, Aka's mind is invaded by a violent psychic pulse from her attacker. Malice and hate pound at your mind.

Although it looks near falling, the creature damaged by Aka and Pasara stumbles forward, slashing at the beautiful, blonde spellcaster with its psychically violent weapon and ready to bite if her defenses fall. Perhaps it is because she wasn't expecting the attack from the bat dying on his feet, maybe its looming death gave it just the extra boost it needed. The crystal blade plunges into Pasara's stomach. (1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20) Pasara takes 8 points of damage and 4 points of non-lethal but no further damage from the monsters. At the creature falls to the ground, blood bubbling up around the arrow in it's bony chest.

Pasara:
As the kukri plunges into Pasara's body, her mind is invaded by a violent psychic pulse from her attacker. Malice and hate pound at your mind. The keening hate blurs her vision and clouds her mind making the world, ????
Farmer:
I did check if you could force a re-roll on the crit Pasara took, but even if Farmer had shifted 5-ft, he is 35-feet away... so just a little too far. Sorry.

The bat creature flanked by Farmer and Fifi lashes out at the air elemental - but misses.

The final bat creature's eyes glow, staring hard at Willem. It then withdraws from the main combatants in the front. Willem Will DC 14: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 The creature is angered and shocked when the small gunslinger shrugs off (or doesn't even notice) the mental attack.

In the front row Bassy jumps up to stand on her seat. "This will make a great scene in my next book. And will be a great way for the heroes to build up sexual tension!" Believe it or not, but you feel inspired. All allies of Bassy in the theater get a +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls and a +1 morale bonus vs fear effects.

The merchants on the far right... retreat to the corner of the theater, hoping to not be attacked.

On the left Arnholde pulls out a rapier as he moves across the floor, "Pasara! Are you alright?" Clearly not a warrior, the baronet ignores the closer monster. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 Somehow, miraculously, Arnholde manages to dodge around the kukri attack.

Meanwhile, Lady Devy (clearly more clearheaded than her son) withdraws from the monster, encouraging all of her townsfolk to do the same. "Since the creature in the back blocked the normal exit, try to make your way to the stage and exit that way!"

Sheriff Pelle guards the baroness's retreat. Most of the townsfolk seem stunned, but there are a few that seem to have their wits about them. From where she was half-dozing in the back, Xemne starts to swear, impugning the creature's lineage as she tries to mix her booze from something intoxicating to something incendiary.

Two others stick out, although at the moment they seem to be trying to protect and shepherd people to safety. The woman who had verified the scroll's authenticity and the man who seems very familiar with the theater. Sigrit and Bakuu seem to be doing the same, especially with the near presence of the monsters in the front. And for the sake of the GM's brain the non-combatants are being removed from the combat map. So far two people have escaped the theater by the rear exit - Chosk and his son.

Round 2:
Willem briefly wonders who he's supposed to have sexual tension with. No one in the party even has a tail, let alone a coat of fine, luxuriant fur. He shrugs, dumps a paper cartridge down the barrel, scuttles over to the bat-thing that that the poor judgment to try to beguile him, and blasts it in the face.
