Gob Smash One

Game Master Tacticslion

They be goblins, you be food... why are they so weird, dude?

That's what the W.D.G.F.F. (Western Duchy Goblin Fighting Force) first Reconnaissance and Strike Crew, aka "Gob Smash One" (that's you) have been sent to find out, in the barren mana wastes beyond the edge of the Duchy near the border of Geb in an ancient abandoned outpost called Hightower...

You gotta add me to the list, boss! Pleeeeease?

mythic "yes" 1
mythic "no" 1
mythic "maybe" 1 (+2 = 3)
mythic "other" -

EDIT: Incorporating the two votes below about the mythic tally...

Also, updating the list.

EDIT: Hah! Speaking of... (are you sure you aren't a halfling ninja? Twice-over?)

TENTATIVE MEMBERS OF THE W.D.G.F.F. Reconnaissance and Strike Crew
* Sunset: "Sunny"
* Edward Sorbel: Lulu Yordle (Little Orphan Annie)
* Jon the Unlucky: Eris Kaddren (Eolgrin Kalderon)
* Gridlock god of Rage: Snaglor (or a different character made by Grid for this game)
* Algar Lysandrius: Beylinda Chumana (or a different character made by Algar for this game)
* Lady Firedove: Layla the Twin Blade
* Gobo Horde: Stone (or a different character made by Gobo for this game)
* Viskous: Vitreous "Darling" Dimplegatto
* Bane88: Crunch
* Suthuri: (character in progress)
* Azaelas Fayth: (character in progress)
* Death Quaker: character in theory
* grimdog73: character in theory
* Larkos: character in theory

Yaaaay!

*Layla does a little sword-twirling dance to celebrate.*

We're gonna get those gobs but good! :)

On me: I haven't really been in a good mythic campaign so I only have bad experiences with it...

EDIT: I should specify that this is a Maybe from me... I was just trying to say that I would most likely need some hand-holding without actually saying it.

The ones I was in the GM made us do the Trials to gain Tiers and it ended up feeling like a MMO/VRPG Rip-off...

I'm hesitant about including mythic myself, mostly because I'd like to keep this campaign fun, light, and simple ... not too rules-complex.
However, in defense of mythic, I have been a player in a RL game GMd by Tacticslion in which mythic rules worked out well and made for an interesting story. If he's asking us about it, he probably has what he thinks is a clever or fun way to incorporate it into our campaign story ...
So, count my vote as a maybe.

@Mi'Lady Firedove: Man you really are a ninja...

Azaelas: our back-and-forth PM continues. Punny thing, that. :)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Yes. It is quite Pungent isn't it. Wait is that the right word for that?

You, Tac, and a ton of puns?
Yeah, all that old corn probably stinks. ;)

Hey, I ain't that old lassy! I am barely 21 just because I like old novels, music, and movies doesn't mean a thing! Then again... I think I would prefer to be older given how idiotic most of my age group is...

Also I think I answered every question.

Would YOU want to be in a room with a bunch of 21-year-old corn?

LOL
No, insult intended.

And, hey, Tac and I are early thirties, so I guess we're the old ones here. :)

That... Is a good point... Though if it was in a Charred Barrel and treated right then yes I would.

And I know a guy that can remember when D&D was viewed as a passing fad by the TTRPG/TTWG Community. He remembers when they were first released and his college roommate decided to try it out.

And with that... good night, all! I will be answering queries, questions, and pitches in the mornin'. Check the campaign info thread for... more of the same info I've posted here, at present.

It doesn't tell any sort of plot or exciting things, because we're currently kind of closed, sort of, -ish.

See if your name is on the campaign list, to know if you're in.

If people drop out, we may - may - open again.

I will establish more threads in the morn'.

I am actually going to hold off committing to another pbp, as I am already in 3. I want to see if they will continue, but if one goes south, I wouldn't mind signing up.....thanks again.

Lulu is leveled to level 2 but no equipment.

as far as armor and stuff goes,;

lulu does not wear armor but if there were some armor that an arcane caster could wear she would probably go for it (at least for a little bit)

Lulu was away in the fey glade for a very long time. but the magic of the mana wastes messed up everything, lulu and Pix came out to figure out why every one was turning blue and purple. not so much as to stop it but to see if there were more colors available.

that's when it happened. the drafting, the grabbing, the touching. and boom Private Lulu was born. well not really born more like created, or maybe just happened.

I sadly won't have time fro a few more days to adejust Sunny to level 2 and such.

Will do my best when I have the time.

Eolgrin, so long as he's the minimum height a dwarf can be, would not be necessarily be part of this process. If this is acceptable to you, Eris, welcome aboard! Okay, Azaelas, you should have enough information to make your character now, except for the armor. Thanks. EDIT: PM me with any final questions.

EDIT:

-----------------------------------------------------------------
All, here's my "requested armor" list so far.

Sunset: "Sunny"; armor: clothing <none requested... but you're a monk; I'm presuming>

Algar Lysandrius: Beylinda Chumana; armor: ?

Gobo Horde: Stone (or a psionic slight variant); armor: ?

Edward Sorbel: Lulu Yordle (Little Orphan Annie); armor: spellcasting-friendly

Jon the Unlucky: Eris Kaddren (Eolgrin Kalderon); armor: ?

Gridlock god of Rage: Snaglor (or a different character made by Grid for this game); armor: ?
NOTE: Given that he's not posted on the forums for the last 23 days (last post on May 8th), Gridlock may well be away from the forums for some time - life has a way of pulling you away at times, it seems, which is something I understand entirely. I will not hold the game off to wait for him - but he can join us later, if he so chooses! I'd be glad to help him integrate his character. If he does post before we start (which should be about Monday, Lord willing), that's entirely fine. :)

Lady Firedove: Layla the Twin Blade; light and mobile

Viskous: Vitreous "Darling" Dimplegatto; armor: a duster; he needs one

Bane88: Ooze; armor: light and anything with "hunting" or "destroy goblins"

Suthuri: Shaedo; armor: ?

Azaelas Fayth: (character in progress); armor: ?

Death Quaker: character in theory (Ceru?); armor: ?

Larkos: character in theory; armor: ?
------------------------
Beylinda, Stone, Eris, Suthuri, Shaedo, [Azaelas], [DQ] (Ceru?), and [Larkos], I'll need your requests!

Otherwise, I'll whip up something generically appropriate.

Do not worry: I'm not going to give you something you can't use or something that actively interferes with your class abilities. You'll be effective here, regardless.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Also:

Tallfolk (for now): Beylinda, Sunny, Eris
Smallfolk: Lulu, Stone, Layla, Vitrous, Ooze, Shaedo, [DQ (Ceru?)], [Larkos]
Broadfolk: [Azaelas] <sort of, -ish>

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Finally: please select yes/no
mythic "yes" 1
mythic "no" 1
mythic "maybe" 3
mythic "other" -

Voted: Sunny, Layla, Ooze, Vitrous, [Azaelas]
Not voted yet: Beylinda, Eris, Lulu, Stone, Shadow [DQ/Ceru], [Larkos]

It is noted by the "maybe" crew that they're hesitant because they would prefer less complex, as well as balance issues. I have several ideas - if the "maybe's" have it, then I'll go for one of the least complex variants.

At work.

I have ideas for armor. A 'Re-dressing' of the listed horn lamelar armor. (Think some of the images of artist, the late Michael Turner(?) Aka Fathom)

As I said, will be buisy for few days yet. Will work up the character asap.

Much cheers to all. (^_^)

I thought i did vote

I said yes but in truth i dont care

If i can get the same fey feel with mythic then definite yes

Ah - got it. Sorry, I missed something from both of you!

Sunny: I'll get you something akin to what you have noted. (Somehow, I missed it on the first couple of read-throughs. Confirmation bias, I suspect.)

Thank you.

Eris , as a sorceress, doesn't have any armor proficiencies. So unless they're handing out bracers or rings, she'll pass on the armor offered.

Oh, what the heck, she'll take a nice flowing set of robes, something fashionable. Preferably in shades of white and sky blue.

Eris has a knack for ice magic, and her choice of spells and feats are all tied to that. Any gear that enhances, underscores, or complements her ice theme is certainly welcome.

I would vote 'yes' for mythic. I'm always in favor of anything that brings fun to the game. That said, if it's not fun, junk it!

Grand Lodge

Mythic for me is a maybe with a strong leaning to Yes.

I like the mythic rules and am playing in a face to face wrath of the righteous.

The problem I had with mythic was in a game I run I let them have 1 tier only (for being lucky and having a epic battle and winning) and it seriously unbalanced everything, and required me to rework huge chunks of content. So I had their tier get removed by a powerful wizard's wish spell.
My unpreparedness doesn't spoil my enjoyment of being a mythic hero!

Grand Lodge

As to the armor, I was imagining leather or studded leather (For the mechanical benefits) being re-skinned as a duster.

A mitril chain shirt +1...

And thank you for the pm DM.

Armor for me would be light-weight, and mobile, and dark as night. Though that would be an entirely aesthetic choice, being a night-time performer, as I am. Any stealth boost would be helpful- those gobs won't see what's coming their way!

GM Tact wrote:

Saw PM- response sent!

Shaedo, I will respond when possible. Thanks!

Equipment issued in discussion. Feel free to start there.

Beylinda, your +1 chain shirt is being replaced - see the other thread for details.

All: you may sell any overlapping equipment and purchase equal magical bonuses - you purchase at a 10% discount. None of the armor issued is magical: those are mundane armors. If you choose not to wear the kilt (which you can) your AC drops by 1 and you lose your acid resistance; only in one case - the caster's armor - does the max dexterity increase (it goes to +10); between those two things, and the fact that it does not change the "don" time (caster, light, and medium armor function as leather armor for don time, and the heavy armor functions as chainmail for don time), thus there's little reason to do so.

Also, please hit "reply" to this message, and then copy/paste the following into your class/level bar for your character's profile page. Be sure to update your hp each day, when applicable:

Class (Archetype?) 2 | AC ? T ? FF ? | HP ?/? | F +? R +? W +? (bonus?) | Init +?

For the curious:
replace all "?" with the correct number
replace "class" with the name of your class and "archetype" with the name of your archetype
"AC" is your total AC; "T" is touch AC, and "FF" is flat-footed
"HP" is your hit points
"F" is fortitude, "R" is reflex, and "W" is will; replace "bonus" with any bonuses to your saves you have
"Init" is your initiative.

Thank you!

If we don't have to keep track of Trials then I would be willing to try it out again.

EDIT: Sorry looks like I got guilt tripped by my girl to play Orin in her Mythic Campaign... Hope everything goes well. And after all this time working him out. I really wanted to try out one of Tac's Campaigns.

Fair 'nough. I will instead. >:)
(No, but seriously, guys, don't worry about that. It's not something you'll have to keep track of, regardless.)

EDIT: Hah! Well, no problem, sir. I do understand. Perhaps there will be an opportunity in the future. Peace to you, and enjoy!

I also want some input from those who would be affect (that's basically you, DeathQuaker, and Sunny):

I use a house rule called "opportune strike" instead of sneak attack.

What this does is nets you a static damage bonus that is multiplied on a critical instead of +1d6; however it's also applicable whenever the opponent suffers from a negative status effect.

Based heavily no Cheapy's rule, about the only difference is the progression: You gain a damage bonus equal to your level+1 instead of +2 at every odd level ("oh, no, rogues get an extra +1 damage at twentieth level, noooooooooooooooo~!" :D) giving it a slight damage boost, negating the need to roll extra sneak-attack dice, and similar. It applies much more often (obviously) and functions for ranged attacks as well.

While the damage is somewhat lower (read Cheapy's thread for details) than sneak attack, with a group of our size (and the fact that we have a few casters) you'll be more than able to establish the bonus relatively consistently - meaning that, over-all, your sneak attack benefit will increase.

This also eliminates "trap" Rogue Trick options like the Powerful Sneak tree.

Sound good?

Okeys.... Um how will that affect things like 'Sap adept' and 'Sap mastery'?

Still at work. Much cheers ta' all.(^_^)

Sap Adept: Deal 1.5 x your opportune strike damage (minimum +1)

Sap Mastery: Deal 2 x your opportune strike damage

Easy 'nough. It makes Sap Adept stronger (dealing +1.5 as opposed to +1.25), but that's fine with me, really.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

All right, I'm tossing in for now.

Mythic--My vote is yes, but I would not be offended or disappointed if it was not used.

ETA: On the Opportune Strike thing, which I just saw: am I reading this correctly that the only time the damage kicks in is if a critical hit is achieved or if a character is suffering a negative status effect? If you are using that rule I will rescind my rogue character, as my die roll luck means I would almost never, ever get to use that ability, and trying to set up for a negative status effect would be a royal pain. And especially as I'm playing a small character with a Strength penalty, Sneak Attack's the only way I'm going to get to do damage. Flanking tactics, easy. Getting drop on someone, easy. Hoping someone fails a save/circumstances are right someone is shaken or whatever or the near impossibility of my rolling a 20 on an attack roll? Sorry, no. Especially as it basically adds a gear/feat tax to rogues to have high-crit index weaponry and related feats. That won't work for me.

If that rule is a definite in, then I guess I am a definite out, as I don't really have time to build another character. Sorry to waste your time. :(

And here is DeathQuaker's character, currently at level 2.

Armor: light, as low ACP as possible. If it somehow comes with lots of pockets, all the better.

The only gear listed is "sample gear" so I could calculate out combat stuff, plus she has to have cards and chalk.

Excellent! Welcome, Ceru!

Okay, with Ceru's vote, it isn't really possible to get a "no" result on mythic stuffs over-all (at most, we'd end up with "maybe").

That said, there's a strong contingent who are somewhat hesitant about it, and a couple who don't want it at all.

I would appreciate those who specifically don't want mythic abilities to tell me what their concerns are. I will be glad to address them.

I will also look at potentially streamlining some of the mythic abilities, based on feedback for ease-of-use, due to those who are less interested.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

You ninjaed as I was editing my post under my main account, so you may want to see before moving on.

DQ, I think Tac is including flanked/flat-footed as negative status effects in this case, so I think your sneak attack would work in all the usual situations ... The main change is static damage instead of rolled, I believe.

That's how he ruled it when I played a rogue in his game IRL.

Also, knowing Tac, if you really don't like his house rule, I bet he'd rather change it than see you drop out because of it. :)
