Round 6

Engineering Phase

Abe diverts the power back into the weapons for Draka and Zane's benefit.

Helm Phase

Vetch fires the boosters back on and flings everyone into the back of their seats as the Maiden lurches through space. If Vetch hadn't been strapped into his seat there definitely would have been a space rat with his brains exposed floating through the cockpit.

Gunnery Phase

The Zane's shots are spot on as the heavy laser cannon sears through the engines and into the power core. The skeletal frame explodes in a flurry of bone as the Maiden plows through the debris.

Demand action Intimidate vs DC 24: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26 Draka gets +4 on her next gunnery roll!

Draka gets a lucky shot as the port light laser cannon splits the red necroglider through the canopy, instantly killing the pilot within.

The radio comms crackle. "This won't be the last you have seen of us. We may have grossly overestimated your vessel but will return." The hollow voice screeches across the speaker. The tiny fight spins around your backside to escape with it's glitching engines.

Turning to the ship’s camera, which has been rolling the whole time, he asks. ”What’s the last thing that passes through an eoxian’s head as it hits a viewport?”

After giving a beat...
”...it’s ass.”

”Ok, cut feed. That’s lunch everyone!”

Abe checks his instruments one more time before shifting to the Science Officers chair and checking the scanners carefully. "They'll send larger numbers at us next time - we need more guns. Something better for Draka." he adjusts a program in his computer, planning his next upgrade.

He looks annoyed at the eoxian messing up his paint job, but there's no more damage than that, so he counts himself lucky. We have more paint, and we'll be in Absalom Station soon enough thanks to the drift.

He settles back in for the ride.

Please check the loot list for any gear you may wish. I'd like to give Draka a boost on this divvy - make an uneven distribution to bring her more in line with where the rest of us are. All agreed? The group spends a little over a week in the Drift as Vetch punches it into hyperdrive. The group of Starfinders go plaid! Vetch's starstone compass leads true. The small, clockwork navigational device hones in on mystical signals emitted by the Starstone resting at the heart of Absalom Station, calculating the compass’s precise distance from and direction relative to the enigmatic font.

After a week the Sunrise Maiden exits the drift to the sight of the familiar sprawling, densely inhabited space station filling a similar orbit that the forgotten planet Golarion once held.

@Abe: I’m good with your loot divvy suggestion.

Abe spends the week tinkering with his gear - getting everything tuned up as best he can. He also pays some attention to the data pads they've accumulated from various nefarious types. He combs through them carefully, seeking anything they may have missed.

Essentially taking-20 on the systems, cracking them down to the root level and checking every directory for hidden files. Take-20 = 35..

When they reach the safety, and shops, of Absalom, Abe gathers all the gear to be sold, hopefully getting an ally or to to help carry, and he heads down to the mercantile districts where such things are handled.

After unloading everything, Draka receives 6,885cr and the rest of us receive 4,085cr each. Not a bad haul really. Let’s do it again!

When Abe has collected the credsticks for their haul, he doles them out to they party, giving an extra ‘stick to Draka. ”You’ve done very well, and I want to impress upon you this is a good group, and worthy of your loyalty. We take care of our own.” he grins and adds, ”Now before we go drinking, I’ve one or two things to do. So I’ll see you all. Just ping me and let me know where you are. I’ll be a couple hours.”

With that, he dashes off to make a purchase, obtaining a brand new Laser Rifle, Corona (4,650cr)(2d6F, 1d6burn, 120’r, bulk 1). He can’t wait to use it in combat. He takes his old Azimuth Laser Rifle down to the docking bay. He spends the next hour or two attaching it to the ship, behind a panel near the main airlock. He sets a camera with it so they can see who it fires upon. He’s eager to test it, but figures shooting off firearms in the docks would likely be frowned on, so he lets it go.

Vetch seems happier in his return the Absalom Station. This time it feels like he belongs. Or there is some familiarity about the place that causes it to seem more like den.

He will help Abe sell things, and consider some upgrades in his armor slots. Shopping list to come.

Both quotes converge as Zane is jubilant at how well the Sunrise Maiden handled that conflict. Outnumbered, and with a potentially dangerous spaceshark, The Sunrise Maiden ended those threats quickly.

He sets up the personalcomm to take a couple selfies. The one he’s proudest of is where he does a handstand on top of the gunners chair. His feet touching the ship ceiling, and working the targeting sticks and triggers all while upside down.

When the rest of the crew gathers in the cockpit to talk about their hypespace travel to Absalom, Zane compliments each of them in turn.
ABE, you really tricked out The Sunrise Maiden. Those baddies were thinking this was some creampuff freighter, but the upgraded shields and gun turret was so B-A-D- A-SS!
And Vetch, you were like a natural on the throttle. Zoom. Boom. Stop. Zoom. Boom! Draka knocked down her sweet kill right after the you did that Peeka-Bo- Asteroid thing.
Sweet shooting Draka. You hit them with a Torpedo and Minilaser milkshake.
With Coach putting the gameplan and the right players onto the field. Sweet win boys and girls.

At Absalom Station, Zane soaks in the expected adulation from people that recognize him (Level 6 Icon boon- which is exponential because Draka gets it too). He FULLY expected his departure from Castrovel into space to bring with it notoriety. The fact that all of Draka’s videos have gone viral and Blood and Fury is getting great ITune reviews – just make the free drinks he gets and the “atta-boys” from strangers…. Well expected.
ABE and Vetch should have taken The Zane shopping- they might have gotten discounts or free battery packs and the like. Their loss. He got a free headvisor just for taking a picture with the owner of Big-N-Things.

What's the plan in Absalom Station?

Abe's plan is to transfer the goods out of their cargo hold, have a drink, and report the parties findings to the Society. Aren't they the ones who hired us to investigate all this? Or am I misremembering?

I'm hoping they have some clues for us as well. If not, it's back to the university to find some brain to help us tie together the leads we have in some meaningful way. If that fails, we'll head out to the drift and see if we can track down some leads through the local pirates...

The group goes about the day, selling their goods and making a few more suitable purchases. As Abe returns to the Maiden he finds that a message has been blinking on Dash's Captain chair for nearly a week now. It is the message from Chiskisk. The man hits play.

He presses one to begin cycling through the messages.

"This is Chiskisk. What is your SITREP on the cultists?"

"Hey, this is Chiskisk again. Give me a call back....they need to know what is going on."

"Chiskisk again. It has been a week. Hope you are alright."

"At this point you all better hope that you are dead...." The comm clicks off as the voice seems to get more and more irritated.

The next message has the sound of extreme bass and club music, making it difficult to hear the voice. "YO! DASH! This is Max. I got your medicine man. You should have no problem keeping that piston and actuator going all night long...."

The next message is Chiskisk again. "I have been alerted that the Maiden landed in Absalom Station. Seems all must have gone well or someone stole your ship? Either way come let me know what you found."

Vetch listens with Abe to the messages, his face squinching up with each additional message. He looks at Abe weirdly for every Dash-related one, then at his hands for each pertaining to the Starfinders.

"Maybe we were supposed to check in more often, huh? Man, I don't know the rules because they didn't offer us any. Would have been nice to have a manual or some training before they started to yell at us for everything we've done wrong," Vetch shakes his head, wondering how this could have been avoided.

Vetch saves all the Dash-related messages for later, like when he needs a laugh and some cheering up.

"Well team, let's get up to Chiskisk, then we can get to what Abe thinks is best. I hope we're not in too much trouble."

Vetch will lead the team to Chiskisk and offer a report about things, introducing *The* Zane and Draka as necessary and giving Chiskisk access to their vidfeeds so Chiskisk can see stuff for himself.

As most of you already know Chiskisk, a member of the Starfinder Society’s elected leadership council, the Forum. Chiskisk is neither male nor female, but host, the third shirren sex. Chiskisk wears understated business clothes and is nervously flexing their antennae from side to side—a shirren expression of perplexity. He clacks his mandibles. "Any of you care for filtered water or Gelatinous Bacon Croquets?"

As refreshments are served Chiskisk looks over the video and listens intently to the report of both the chaotic cultists and the attack from the Corpse Fleet.

“It is a grave matter, indeed, that the Corpse Fleet seems so intent on keeping you from following the Cult of the Devourer’s trail, even to the point of attempting to eliminate you,” Chiskisk begins, their antennae folded pensively. “I presume that means they are now searching for the Stellar Degenerator as well. The Corpse Fleet is not to be trifled with, and its schemes perpetually frustrate the Eoxians here on Absalom Station. The Eoxian delegation diligently reports the efforts their planet undertakes to curb the Corpse Fleet’s activities, but they never seem to make a dent in the threat."

“Given your run-ins with the Corpse Fleet of late, I have kept my antennae in the air. My contacts in the Eoxian embassy here on the station have worked with a bureaucrat and historian in Eox’s Ministry of Eternal Vigilance named Waneda Trux. She is posted in the city of Orphys and handles reports about Corpse Fleet activity on Eox. According to my contacts, Ms. Trux recently received some indications that the fleet’s agents are up to something—perhaps recruiting for a big mission or gathering resources. It’s unclear. But following any leads that Ms. Trux has gathered could very well reveal the Corpse Fleet’s plots for the Stellar Degenerator and, if we are lucky, the coordinates where the cultists from the Star-Eater’s Spine fled to."

“Waneda Trux’s office is located in a district of Orphys called the Splice. I will inform her that you will be arriving soon. I will not misrepresent Eox—it is a dead world, and it will not be comfortable, even for representatives of the Starfinder Society on official business. But Eox is a member of the Pact Worlds, so one can expect a certain amount of civilization.” Chiskisk clears their throat with a metallic rasp and continues. “I am sure I do not need to remind you, but this mission is of the utmost priority. You must meet Waneda Trux and find the location of this Stellar Degenerator. You must keep it out of the hands of the Corpse Fleet and the Cult of the Devourer. Everything could be at stake."

When the crew collects to go meet Chiskisk, they find Dash in the Captain’s cabin, music blaring, his android nerves tingling from Nanite Nervana.

Dash tries not to fidget in the meeting with Chiskisk. He’s bored, but his mind is capable of multitasking, so one part keeps on task while another considers shopping lists, and another plays back music - anyone with a sense of rhythm and knowledge of classic pop hits might note that his tapping foot is not a nervous gesture, but a sort of personal metronome.

”Ok, got it.” He nearly jumps from his chair. ”Go to Orphys, talk to Waneda, find the Stellar Degenerator. Oh, and save the Galaxy.”

Great!

Abe laughs with Vetch. "Yeah, it's crazy. I shouldn't think we're in trouble though. We've learned stuff. We have news for them, some of it on video. No, we're making headway, they should be happy. We're cool. You'll see." He sort of trails off at the end, not really sure he believes his own words.

He follows Vetch to Chiskisk, and supports his spiel with video and audio when available. He tries to edit out some of the swearing on the fly, but doesn't catch all of it.

"Oh, that is a good lead." Abe says when Chiskisk is finished. "Absolutely, we'll head out there just as soon as we resupply - which won't take long at all." He nods with Dash when he speaks, and chuckles as he finishes. Galaxy, right. He thinks to himself.

"Thanks Chiskisk, we appreciate your faith in us. And we'll, uh, check in more often. OK then."

Abe will head back to the ship and make sure it's all resupplied. He's already done his shopping, so once the ship is in shape, he's ready, and somewhat eager, to go. He is surprised at how much fun he's having working for the Starfinders. Much fun indeed.

"Are we sure we are all we have to throw at this problem? Maybe we need a few dozen battlejuggernaut class wompships too? I dunno. Seems like a big deal, right?" Vetch quips facing many uncertainties.

Vetch waves his hand at his own questions.

"No, I know, I know I know. I got it. No back up. No support. Just us. Sure, we got this," Vetch chitters, looking at Abe. "Is there anything else we'll need for the ship? What kind of gear should we have in preparation for Eox?"

"more cultists?" "are all these undead bad?"

"Goodness no. No cultists and not all undead are bad. Thousands of years ago, the native residents of Eox went to war with the neighboring planets Damiar and Iovo, then known as the Twins. Their most powerful weapon, capable of destroying planets, shattered the Twins into the asteroid belt now called the Diaspora, (Where the cultist base was) but also destroyed Eox's atmosphere and killed off much of its population. Eoxians used necromancy to survive, and today Eox is dominated by the undead." Chiskisk gives a brief history lesson.

'I wish we had the resources. As I am sure you are aware. We recently lost nearly 70% of our Starfinders and resources to the Scoured Stars Incident, to include much of the leadership like First Seeker Janura."

Chiskisk pulls up a map and spins their monitor around. "Eox is a member of the Pact Worlds so you should be able to find what you need there as well. Orphys is underneath a breathable bubble of atmosphere so you shouldn't have any issues."

Map of Eox posted in maps.

Vetch checks out the maps, trying to keep himself spatially situated.

"Captain SpacePants?" Vetch looks at Dash. "As our 'Captain'" Vetch air quotes with his ratty fingers. "When did you want to leave? We'll need more supplies...and some buying lists? Abe? Does the ship need anything else to get us there safely?"

”Ehhh... In a day or so.” Dash shrugs in reply to Vetch. ”After I catch up on some missed calls.”

Moving-in day. May be tough to get out a serious post for a couple days. Trying to shop for Dash too, which is hard because I don’t know Starfinder equipment well.

Neutral Vesk Solider/9

The vesk seconds the ysoki: "Draka ready to go SpacePants." Draka hitches her recent purchases in her arms and heads to the ship.

In the Sunrise Maiden, the vesk plugs in the coffee machine and sets up a cup to brew. She presses a couple buttons on the communicator on her massive vesk wrist and music starts playing. "Draka can't go on any adventure without coffee and scratchy-scale face mask." The vesk pulls out a squished packet from her pocket and pulls the two flat strips apart. She applies to thin mask to her face and sits in a chair until her drink finishes brewing.

"Oh, I wouldn't mind adding another heavy weapon for Draka, but I don't think we have the time for that." until we level up... "So I think we're ready when Dash is." he grins.

He double checks everything, including his own gear, and makes ready for departure.

Vetch, when given free time will purchase a few upgrades that will hopefully keep him alive during times of conflict. He will research what he can of Eox and prepare himself as best he can.

"You guys buying some new vid equipment? Heard about these other vidperformers who were vidding in 4D. Must be nice to be able to shoot all your work in all four dimensions, huh?"

With a day to plan their next mission, Dash does some deep research.. in the entertainment districts of the station.

So many clubs, so little time.

He returns to the maiden pretty strung out, but saturated with some psychedelics and jump drive beats bouncing on his iComm in sync with bursts of his jet boots.

”Yo Vetch, set a course for.. whatever once Abe has the ship ready. I’ve got some new moves to test out in my cabin.”

The journey from the Absalom Station to Eox takes 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 2) + 2 = 5 days using the Drift. There are no more frontal assaults from the Corpse Fleet or even any word concerning the Cultists on the way to Eox.

Eox is a dead world, with no seas or oceans, and what’s left of its thin atmosphere is toxic, radioactive, both, or worse. As you approach the planet, you are contacted by Eoxian Space Defense officials on the ancient orbital defense platform called the Sentinel. "Identification and Destination?" A hollow and dead sounding voice rasps over your communication unit.

"Hi." begins Abe as he gathers his identification and sends it over the link. "We're Starfinders, headed to Orphys."

He keeps it simple, hoping they'll do the same. He's uneasy around undead. It's not that he doesn't trust them, it's just, well, they're dead.

A few tense moments pass and the voice returns. "Proceed to Docking Bay 03 for Customs ad Immigration." Finding the docking bay you are able to land safely on a platform carved from the bone of a mammoth beast long lost to civilization. Slowly and painfully each of you pass through customs and immigration under the watchful eye sockets of undead officials as you are free to enter the city.

Zane enjoys the presence of his friends

Hearing that they are asking for identification, Zane tries to speak up after ABE only identifies them as generic Starfinders. Zane pauses as he fully expects ABE to extrapolate and add how he has Stellar Sensation Draka aboard.
Yes, The Blood and Fury Starfinders- Here for the fans!
But Zane's addendum is a little late as the outbound comm was switched off and he hears the inbound comm instruct them to docking bay 03.

ABE- Blood and Fury Baby. Next time, the correct answer is: Blood and Fury.
He shakes his head at how far ABE needs to go to get his hands wrapped around their inevitable future.
When they ask if you are a GOD, you say, YES!!!
He spreads his hands out wide and has this exasperated look of a teacher and student.

Vetch lays in the course with a obsequious "Yessir, Captain,"-overdone-salute, then makes the ship go there. He will follow docking instructions, as ordered, trying to do his job to make sure the ship isn't shot down for insubordination.

"We got anything that customs isn't going to like?" Vetch makes sure no one is smuggling goblins or some other vermin before landing.

Blood and fury. For me, it's their blood and me, I'm a furry.

If androids sweat like meatbag organics then Dash would have been dripping, but apparently good drugs aren’t contraband on Eox. Good thing he wasn’t smuggling death sticks or Sarenrae pop-rock.

"Blood and Fury, got it." Abe exhales with some relief. He turns to Vetch, "I'm clean." - though he wonders what they might find as contraband.

He gathers his gear and heads out into the city. "Let's go meet our contact."

Eox’s “local day,” which is as long as 30 Pact Standard days (or 720 Pact Standard hours). Like the rest of the Pact Worlds, Eox defaults to the 24-hour Pact Standard day, which makes timekeeping easy and universal, but Eox looks to have just started it's 15-day-long night, which means darkness or dim light anywhere that doesn’t have artificial illumination.

The entire city is covered in a carefully engineered protective dome that contains a breathable atmosphere for living creatures. You can thus move around Orphys without worrying about using their armor’s environmental protections.

Leaving the Port you are able to pick up a cab where a decayed form turns back to you with a loud grunt. "UNnnngh?" Letting the zombie know where you want to go it heads to the Splice District of Orphys, dropping you off at the Ministry of Eternal Vigilance.

On the way you watch as every number of undead read in books and heard in rumors are seen walking and driving about. While most seem skeletal and in every stage of the decaying process there are also ghouls, ghasts, vampires, zombies and the occasional living creature roaming about.

A wide, two-story building of black and rust-dappled gray stands out from the other dilapidated structures on this densely packed block within the Splice District. A holographic banner above the sliding double entryway displays the words “Ministry of Eternal Vigilance” in Common and Eoxian. A smaller sign on the front doors declares that the office is open for at least 12 hours every Pact Standard day, even if the stench from the nearby necrograft factory and the building’s lack of windows and architectural accouterments are less than inviting.

The Ministry of Eternal Vigilance sits on Carpalspur Street, nestled between necrograft factories and shops. Compared with other government buildings elsewhere in Orphys, the ministry is remote, run down, and politically ignored for the most part. Inside, the office is rather dull and sterile. The ministry building has two floors.

Entering the Ministry, there are only two people present: a shabby human man sitting in the lobby, and a female ghoul sitting behind the front desk, absently entering information from an enormous stack of papers into a computer terminal sitting on the desk.

According to the holographic instructions in the lobby, visitors should take a numbered token from the machine in the corner and have a seat. When their number is called, they should check in at the front desk, where a ministry official will assist them.

"Wow. OK then. Let's see if the line moves at least before we make a scene, shall we?" he says to mostly Dash, though he doesn't expect this group to be at all patient.

He goes, takes a number, and sits down. He almost immediately starts tinkering with his computer, and quickly gets lost in a sub-routine as he waits. Some part of his mind chants the number on his ticket over and over so he remembers its importance.

Draka, Zane will be the lead runner, you come in for the Glam Bam.

Zane saunters up to the ghoul behind the desk. The only “person” who has access to a comm to call the people of importance.
The Zane here. Pleased to meet you, as today is a very special day. Superstars from Blood and Fury are here to see our contact. Howz about you give them a beep-bop on the comms?
He gives a wink. Then does his best to edify Blood and Fury.
