Whit's attack hits but only causes a scrape.
Gaspar looks ready to charge Scruffy but Vortwyn finishes his spell just as Gaspar's feet begin to move and Gaspar's bastard sword turns red hot.
Ref: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Gaspar is unable to drop it in time, however. He takes 6 fire damage
Charge on Scruffy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18

3. Gaspar
4. Bahiti
Bahiti is up!
Bahiti |
Bahiti is going to swing for Hobgoblin #1 since he has been hurt already.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 251d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 It helps to include bonuses when you buff yourself....
Roll to confirm!!!
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 191d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
EndlessForms |
Hobgoblin 1 is bleeding profusely, but is still moving. Angered by Bahiti's strikes, the hobgoblins shift into flanking around the half-orc and both swing their longswords in fury.
Hobgoblin 1 attacks Bahiti: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

3. Gaspar
4. Bahiti
Whit, Vortwyn, and Scruffy are up!
Scruffy Flaxseed |
Scruffy is nearly staggered by that charging attack by Gaspar (2hp left) and he recoils a (5-foot) step, but is able to pull the trigger on his already-loaded musket!
Bang! 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 (deadly aim)
Damage 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Down to his last three cartridges, Scruffy desperately loads one, breathing heavy in the desert sun with numerous sword wounds on his 60-year-old frame...
EndlessForms |
Whit cures Bahiti up (once again) and Scruffy takes a shot at Gaspar, who is starting to look hurt.
Initiatives:
1. Hobgoblins
2. Whit, Vortwyn, and Scruffy
3. Gaspar
4. Bahiti
Vortwyn is up!
EndlessForms |
Gaspar turns his attention to Whit, noticing that the half-elf is flanked by one of his hobgoblin minions.

I believe our detective just dropped.

Ouch, sorry. You guys are just having the worst luck.
Hobgoblin 1 attacks Scruffy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Whit, Vortwyn, and Scruffy are up!
Scruffy Flaxseed |
Scruffy, struck from behind, crumples as his musket lands in the dust next to him.
Rolling to stabilize 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11 (DC 19)
HP: -10 / Con 12
Vortwyn |
Seeing things get dire, Vortwyin takes a quick look between his previous target, Gaspar, and the hobgoblin closing in on him.
Heal checks Gaspar 1d20 ⇒ 2, Hobgoblin 1 1d20 ⇒ 13
Having no real idea as to how hurt Gaspar is, but seeing that the hobgoblin is relatively wounded, he turns and fires off an arrow, hoping to drop the new target and clear a path to move.
1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 6 + 1 = 211d10 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Let me know if that drops Hobgoblin 1 so that I can move.
Vortwyn |
I guess I'll just move and hope at this point.
I'm coming to help you out Bahiti
I'll move to flank, keeping my bow in my left hand and drawing my rapier into my right.
Picture the arrow takes flight, then the Elf takes off after it, hoping that it lands true in the chest of the hobgoblin. Waiting just long enough for him to fall, or not, he races by, drawing his rapier, then rolls through a tumble to take up a stabbing position just behind the other hobgoblin.
Acrobatics against Hobgoblin 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 and Hobgoblin 1 (if needed): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
EndlessForms |
Vortwyn drops Hobgoblin 1 and in [sarcasm]true wizard fashion[/sarcasm] runs into melee.
I believe Whit is stable -2. Scruffy is at -10, not stable, and has a Con of 12.
Seeing that two people have fallen, Gaspar moves for Bahiti and attacks.
bastard sword attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21

1. Hobgoblins
2. Whit, Vortwyn, and Scruffy
3. Gaspar
4. Bahiti
Bahiti is up!
EndlessForms |
Oh wait, just realized Bahiti is down. Sorry.
Hobgoblin 2 attacks Vortwyn: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
[dice=1d8 + 2[/dice]
Initiative:
1. Hobgoblins
2. Whit, Vortwyn, and Scruffy
3. Gaspar
4. Bahiti
Whit, Vortwyn, and Scruffy are up! Unfortunately, I think Vort is the only one conscious. Whit is stable at -2, but Bahiti needs to roll to stabilize from last round and Scruffy needs to roll to stabilize. I hope Vort has a trick up his sleeve. I'll just tell you that Hobgoblin 2 has 17 HP left (hasn't been hit) and Gaspar has 16 HP left with 6 NL from the heat.
Scruffy Flaxseed |
Roll to stabilize: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17 (DC 20)
(Note that I have a shirt reroll (Mike T knows I have the VL shirt) that I will donate to anyone as long as it is used to help save party members other than Scruffy. He's 60 years old - save the others first!)
EndlessForms |
So. . . sounds like Vort is doing a full withdraw and running away. Everyone else is unconscious at various states or another. Unfortunately the way it is written the genie never helps you. I think we're going to have to call it and figure out what we're doing from there.
Scruffy is one point away from dying and needs a natural 20 on his stabilize. He's already promised his shirt reroll to stabilize Bahiti (since Whit is already stable at -2). Scruffy can make the roll but I think we're going to have to say goodbye to Scruffy.
I'm going to say that Gaspar would not coup de grace the unconscious but rather leave them for dead in the desert.
Assuming Bahiti stabilizes, she can use 5 PP to recover her body and then heal naturally.
Now Whit is another problem because this was Whit's first game and I think he only has 1 PP from his faction mission earlier. Luckily Whit is Shadow Lodge and could use the "No One Left Behind" to do it cheaper. . . but again, he only has 1 PP.
I'm willing to wave my hands and say that Vort was able to grab Whit if you guys want. Otherwise I can report Whit as dead (he only has this game under his belt) and Becca can just "recreate" Whit with a new number. Tell me how you guys would like to proceed.
morbon |
Well, all I could really do is hide behind the Genie, cast a buff or two on myself, and then try to fire arrows at the enemies and hope to drop them before they catch me. That doesn't seem like a promising idea, because both are still in double digit health. All I have left is Gravity Bow and Magic Weapon, so at most I'm doing 2d6 + 2 with point blank, but more likely 2d6 + 1, though would be shooting at +7 to hit most times. Man, it just sucks, and while I don't want to die, I also don't want to leave everyone behind.
What do the rest of you say?
EndlessForms |
Honestly Whit has the least to lose here because he's a brand new character. Becca can just recreate him, although she needs to get him to level 3 so she can play in the conclusion to the Shadow Lodge!
Actually, I just thought of something. Vort runs away and Gaspar and the hobgoblins go on their way, leaving the bodies behind. Vortwyn can then go and grab Whit's and Bahiti's bodies and take them back to heal normally (assuming Bahiti can stabilize). Scruffy still needs to stabilize because he's one away from death and Vort won't be able to get to him in one round. Luckily Bahiti has quite a few rounds before he dies so she should be able to stabilize.
EndlessForms |
(could Vort run away then come back to grab the negative-but-stable ones after Gaspar leaves victoriously? )
Yes, that's basically what I was proposing above.
And you'll want to keep Shadow Lodge so you can get the cool boon when you play the SL out when that scenario is released.
EndlessForms |
So it looks like Whit and Bahiti are stable and Vortwyn can run back and grab their bodies and they will recover naturally and live to fight another day.
Scruffy. . . well, Scruffy died valiantly (unless someone has another reroll for him!). He passed along some valuables to his offspring and will be missed.
EndlessForms |
Is that it? Did Vort, Whit, and Bahiti get their faction missions at least? (I was hand-waving about the harpies, you killed one and the other was old and weak so-good enough).
EndlessForms |
Sounds like we've got everything figured out. Sorry about Scruffy, Mike.
Could I get everyone's PFS numbers for these characters? I'll have chronicle sheets up tonight most likely. I need to run to work soon, just waiting for a quick fix on the tractor.
Scruffy Flaxseed |
Grampa Scranton Englebert "Scruffy" Flaxseed
5/7/4653 - 5/7/4713
43185-13 (lucky number?)
Items shoved into Vort's pack - Scruffy's personal effects for his family:
His switchblade for Bart
His pipe for Horatio
His spurs he got in Alkenstar (but never had the chance to use himself) for Henry
His hat for Trotter
His eyeglasses for Evie ("always said she was a bit shortsighted even for one 'o us...")
EndlessForms |
There you all are! Let me know if there are any mistakes. You got a little bit of gold for defeating the lepers and the harpies and you got 1 PP for your faction missions.
Thanks for playing, everyone! I hope you all had fun even if it was a bit of a nightmare and you had to run away leaving Scruffy behind. It was definitely memorable!
