And with that the rats are dead. There is a slightly unpleasant smell from the oil burning and the rat cooking, but otherwise you came out of it unscathed. Back to waiting for Jokbur to awaken?

Unless someone has a better idea, I think that resting here is a wise choice. I can take the first watch or the last. While I do not have great magical abilities, I do need to rest to recover them.

"My guess would be either poison or disease. Although that is pure speculation at this point. Backed slightly by the fact that it seemed to affect Hermann as well. I'm afraid my ability to call on the Dawnflower is not yet great enough to cure either disease or poison." Ariella says despondently.

"Then we do things the more mundane way. If he does not wake sometime tomorrow then we should get him out of here and back to town. I'll take middle watch. "

Hermann opens up the trap door control and throws the pieces of rat corpses into it before shutting the trap door again and taking his place on First Watch.

Occasionally glancing at Jokbur's still form, the big man seems worried about whatever ails him.

The next few hours go quietly until maybe 3 to 4 hours later a hard knock comes at your door. A low, yet menacing voice says from the other side, "We got one of our own back and we know what you can do. Tonight we let you live, but it is in your best interest to run back to Zelkor's Ferry and never return. If you don't, the next time you close your eyes may be your last. You have been warned."

"No solicitors." Jonas says loud enough to be heard through the door.

AC 11 (T 11 FF 10); CMD: 15; Maximum HP: 42; Current HP: 42 F +6, R +6, W +9

"Wait!? Those filth rats can talk?!" Edmund calls out in his best mock confusion.

"If they're warning us then we've already won. They wouldn't waste the time if they thought they could kill us easily." Ariella says quietly.

After about another 10 minutes after the voice talks through the door, Jokbur wakes up, very groggy but otherwise fine.

When Qui hears about the threat.
Nice of them to warn us. We will have to set up a counter trap. It is much easier capturing bandits if they just come to you and fall into a trap.

Qui then lets out a short chuckle. At least you think it is a chuckle, although to your human ears it sounds much more like a strange croak.

M HP 41/41 | Per +0 | CMB +7 | CMD 20, AC 20, Touch 13, Flat 17 | Fort +7, Ref +4, Will +2 (+1 vs Fear) Fighter 3

"Bah, the empty threats of a beaten coward!" scowls Hermann in disdain.

When Jokbur wakes up shortly thereafter, he chides the man in mock severity, "And a fine time to be taking a nap it was, Jokbur! If you think we're going to let you sleep through rats falling out of the ceiling and getting in Lady Ariella's hair and her all screaming fit to wake the dead - I'm sure I saw you cover your ears - then you can think again!"

RL anecdote: once when canoeing with my family as a kid (I was probably 4, maybe 5), a mouse fell out of a tree onto my mom's head. I remember my dad trying to kill it with a paddle, and a smear of blood in the canoe afterwards.

Jokbur awakes slowly and groggily.

"Well, I am glad I missed rats. If I missed any walking dead, I would have been irate."

"I will watch for a while, and when we are ready, I will lead us on."

Ready to go again.

OK, so you have about 4 hours of rest to wait for Jokbur to get up. Do you want to continue to rest to recover spells, etc or continue to roam the dungeon?

How are peoples' spell availability? I don't recall there being very many used in the current "day" so far.

Edmund is down quite a few firsts. He does run out eventually.

What's the rush?

My understanding was that we were supposed to take over the whole dungeon and reach level 20 in a single day of game time without resting otherwise we all die.

The legend I heard is had you to face down a lich before the dawn of the second day or you would become one :-)

Jokbur readies himself for a vigilant watch. Unfortunately the effects of his magical sleep have him feeling a little lethargic.

The relevant personages having decided to err on the side of caution and rest to be as prepared as possible for their explorations the next day, Hermann continues his First Watch. This was really more like a First Listen since the door was closed - but none the less, Hermann did his job so that the others could sleep. Taking his turn to rest when it was Second's turn, he slept until woken by attack or the readiness of the rest of the group to depart for another day of exploration.

Hearing a noise, Hermann jostles everyone awake as quietly as possible before grabbing up his longspear and positioning himself before the door.

Speaking so quietly as to almost be a whisper, "I'll open the door as soon as you're all ready - so be quick!"

Don't forget you need to get the spikes out too

Hermann starts to work on prying the spike from the ground, trying do to so as quietly as possible.

Stealth: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (16) - 2 = 14

You do your best to remove the spikes from under the door. You carefully open the door and don't see anything in the hallway. Approaching the pit you hear something from down below and when you peer over you see a single kobold at the bottom who looks very hurt from the fall. Its muttering to itself in a language that Edmund recognizes as draconic. Its basically muttering to itself how bad and miserable his life is.

AC 11 (T 11 FF 10); CMD: 15; Maximum HP: 42; Current HP: 42 F +6, R +6, W +9

Draconic:
"I say, good fellow, things can't be all that bad, can they?"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19

draconic:
"poor Jujin feel in this hole and its hurt. No want to be slave anymore"

Jokbur demonstrates how to put a rope loop under his arms.
He tosses the loop down from his rope coil and mimics pulling someone up.

AC 11 (T 11 FF 10); CMD: 15; Maximum HP: 42; Current HP: 42 F +6, R +6, W +9

"To whom are you a slave, Jujin?"

Jonas nods approvingly at Jokbur's sentiments, moving up next to him to help haul on the rope.

M HP 41/41 | Per +0 | CMB +7 | CMD 20, AC 20, Touch 13, Flat 17 | Fort +7, Ref +4, Will +2 (+1 vs Fear) Fighter 3

Hermann stands by the others as they retrieve the injured kobold, looking out for trouble while the others are preoccupied.

draconic:
"Vorlak is the big-big that rules us kobolds. He take many of us to take the stuff of you bigs when you bigs leave with shinies. We usually get them at the scary scary place near the water. We fled here because Vorlak no come here after many kobolds die at the walled place to the north. But all of Jujin's friends die until only Jujin left."

Edmund and the kobold exchange some words, then the kobold beings sobbing or at least that is what is seems it is doing.

You pull the kobold up and he seems pretty hurt from the fall (2/5 hps left). He has some really poorly made leather armor on and has a spear and a sling, of which he is not threatening you with.

Edmund seems to be able to converse with it, and during the discussion Edmund pulls out the map of the surrounding area you have and the kobold points to a spot which Edmund makes a note of where it came from.

I've updated the wilderness map in the campaign tab of where the kobold camp is roughly.
