Roll 20 Map

How do you wake him? You could heal him or use smelling salts. Might be other methods as well, those just come to mind.

He appears to have the same sorts of gear, as do his companions, that the 'modern' drow had with few variations.

Assuming you wake him, he begins by saying nothing and staring at you sullenly. Feel free to try intimidate or diplomacy (though the former is more likely to succeed) to break through to him. You do not know if he knows the common tongue.

There are no particular items of interest on the drow. No magics and little wealth, just a few odds and ends. You will find four potions of cure moderate and two of cure light however, if you want to use those to heal and spare the wands a little. Also four mithral chain shirts and 12 +1 hand crossbow bolts.

Dimitrio takes a gulp of one of the healing potions to patch up that nasty cut from the rapier.

He pulled forth the smelling salts, almost shoved them under the drow's nose and promptly closed the container.

He then proceed to ask his prisoner some questions. "Where's the rest of you? How you gonna get back to our time?"

Ederin says as he grabs one of the stronger healing potions.

Once he feels better he moves beside Dimitrio and translates the questions to Undercommon, he watches the drow respond to make sure he's telling the truth as he slowly draws his dagger.

"Our shadowy form? How would you attack our shadow?" Alarnon says as he places a heavy paw on the drow's chest, pushing him further into the soft dirt.

"Now where are the rest of you hiding!" He growls mere inches from it's face baring his teeth.

Allarnon's voice cracks and he does more drooling than talking.

Kaylayne looks at Dimitirio, thinking.

"Does that make sense to you, Dimitrio? How is this prick we're deciding whether to kill or not have the option to torment our shadow form? Are all drow this incoherent? Maybe we should capture one of the women. They seem to be the ones in charge anyway."

Kaylayne looks to have Lief translate.

"Why won't we be the ones tormenting your shadowy form? You're stuck here too...and we're stronger, bigger, and bearyier than you are," Kaylayne says to the prisoner.

Dimitrio was confused and mad. He looks around to make sure this drow is not pulling their chain and setting them up for an ambush.

Satisfied that they are safe, he grins and punches the drow in the face, knocking his head sideways with the force.

"Shadow form? Did that feel like a shadow to you? I am very real and so is your death if you don't cooperate!"

He turns to Ederin, "Tell him that, Shorty."

Dimitrio starts again, "Now that we all know each other, let's start again. We are the rest of your buddies hiding. How are you getting back to the present? Surely, you're not going to stay here and be killed."

"You may kill me, and you may not. But it will not effect your lives one whit. You are doomed to die here, there is no escape for you. We have the key, and though you beat me, you'll not beat us all - we will surely crush you."

He takes the blow gamely, and likely passes out again for a moment before being revived by further smelling salts.

He sneers at Dimitrio and spits a wad of blood, and maybe a tooth, in his general direction, "We await your deaths at the observatory."

Ederin moves forward to kill the drow and be done with it. "We already knew where we were going, now it's confirmed, let's get there while my skin is still tough."

Kaylayne turns her head as Ederin does what needs to be done.

"Well, we can't sleep here. Let's find another spot. I could use the rest," Kaylayne mutters and begins to mentally reset the watch so the team can be ready for tomorrow.

I vote going in now but my PC does use 'reusable' abilities all that much.

Lief, DMPC, suggests resting as well to break the tie.

The party moves off, looking for a good place to lay low. Fortunately, much of the city has been abandoned, and you’re able to find several houses that fit the bill. Picking one, you squat for the night, keeping a good watch out.

You’re not molested overnight - apparently the drow don’t have the forces to do a house to house search in one night - it is a somewhat large place. As you take watches, you do see a few small drow patrols traveling the streets, but I assume you leave them alone so as not to tip off your hiding place.

Dawn rises, anemically flickering through the trees. It is Oathday, 3 Rova, 4709.

Kaylayne's eye opens, her morning reflections at an end. She does not like this shadow realm and still questions the haste at which they followed their foes within. But she was here now and there was little to do but speak up next time there is a choice to be foolish or not.

She wanders over to the mess area and begins cobbling together a breaking of her fast.

"Cheese?" Kaylayne asks, offering her dagger and a wedge around. "It's not the best, but it tastes like cheese, which is good."

After she finishes eating, Kaylayne checks her magics for the day.

"Let's get done here. Then we need to find a way out. A way back."

Magic Vestment (8 hours), Barkskin when we get closer (80 minutes) & MCPfE on Kaylayne (80 minutes). Kayla will stay within 10' of Allarnon for now.

Ederin sleeps well, despite the injury. He feels the puncture wound to find it mostly closed and no longer bleeding, but still tender.

He accepts some of Kays cheese quietly while he concentrates on the magic he want to prep for the day.

"We run into any more demons, I don't have any cold iron but my sword." He says groggily as he pulls his shirt back on and checks his bow. "Don't know what we'll run into at the observatory but it ain't gonna be good. Never did give that summoned demon a dirt bath either, might be there too."

As they near he casts Barkskin on himself and prepares for the worst. 50 minutes

Allarnon wipes his face as he wakes up. Running a hand through his greasy hair he slicks it back and smells Kaylayne's cheese. The pungent aroma strikes his nostrils and he jerks back.

"What is this?" he says holding it out towards her.

Looking around he notices the otehrs eating it and tries a small piece.

It is actually quite good! He grabs a larger pieces and goes back to getting ready.

I will need help with my armor in a few moments.

GM:
I know it is insanely expensive for what it does but would you allow the wild armor enchantment?

Shaping back into a bear Allarnon traces a few spells onto himself and Tarkir. As he does so his tribal patterned tattoo's almost seem to have a glow about them.

Once we get close to the observatory Cast:

You prepare yourselves as you walk the little way to the observatory from your hiding place. Dimitrio and Lief may make any preparations they like as the group walks.

Standing in the center of a small, well-kept park is a tall and imposing building made of black and white marble and decorated with beautiful celestial patterns. Four low domes adorn the building’s corners. A tower rises from its central portion to form a large domed structure from which three ornate telescopes protrude from balconies near the top some 45’ (one balcony no telescope) and 60’ (three balconies with telescopes) above the ground.

There are two elven, not drow, guards, lazily watching the entryway on the north side of the building. You’re about 100’ from the entrance (more or less the furthest you can be and still see anything worthwhile). Don’t forget the dim lighting conditions that pervade the plane.

Allarnon:
Sure, it is very expensive, but would help you out. Take it at your leisure.

Now refreshed but not content, the bard makes the trek towards their objective, getting back to his time firmly on his mind.

The bard cast a spell to quicken his moves when they sight the building.

"This reminds me of a battle I fought not so long ago, almost like it was yesterday," Kaylayne mutters. "I wonder if we damage it in some way, our memories will recall it being the same in our past/future. I'm not very good about thinking about such things. I'm not even sure his is the past or just a shadow of it. Everything here is strange."

Kaylayne readies some additional magics. 4 charges of magic stone. 6x normal, 6x cold iron.

"We can probably fly or scale the back if we wanted to scout first. Seems like we should be able to look within from above."

Ederin creeps closer about 50 feet to see if he can make sure the guards are actually elves, and of course to get a better look at the building and weigh his options.

Ederin creeps forward a little and peers through the dim light to see what can be seen. The building looks as before, quite an impressive structure.

The guards are elves, and like the other local elves, they seem a little out of it, like they're in their own little world. They are well equipped, with bows and long swords over what looks like it might be mithral breastplates.

Lief works furiously to complete his formulae, understanding the continued threat that lingers in the mists of this strange pocket of time. He looks over the others, and takes comfort in their strength and numbers, even though they fall short of optimal equipment against the demonkind.

He follows close behind Ederin, delaying only a moment when he sees normal elves guarding the alleged lair of the drow. Drow aren't renown for their truthfulness.

He decides to not trust his eyes, and hear what these guards may have to say, if they choose to spar words instead of drawing their weapons on sight.

He walks up to them, and hails them. "The gate is due to be opened shortly. Why do you still linger here? Abandon your post, and head to the Academy immediately!"

The pair of elves don't notice Lief until he's right on top of them, as seems typical of these elves. Perhaps just low wisdoms of those who remain...

They call out to Lief though when he speaks, "Halt right there please. Sorry mate, but you cannot enter and we're not going to leave."

"We'll not abandon our posts - that would be unthinkable!" says the other.

Though friendly, they seem firm in their convictions to guard this place.

Allarnon watches from the distance to see if Lief's honeyed words have any effect on the lazy guards.

"How are the elves guarding the drow here? Do they hold some power to control this many minds?"

Kaylayne follows the impulsive and increasingly reckless Lief to confront the drow.

It is almost as if he didn't even hear the other suggestions or chose to ignore them.

Kaylayne half hopes the elfs cuff the impulsive ragamuffin, but instead hopes the boy's plans don't cause their deaths.

Lief gauges for time, then gives it another minute of effort, in an attempt to avoid bloodshed.

"Has anyone else been allowed to come and go? We were told to come here ourselves. Have we been misled? Is this the only entrance, or do you have others helping you to guard this place? If this is the only entrance, we're going to have to overcome you valiant souls intent on protecting a sand castle before a tsunami."

The first speaks again, and firmly. "No one is permitted to pass, sorry."

The second looks a little uncomfortable and mumbles something about those others who pushed their way in, but he's quickly silenced.

"No one is permitted to pass, and no one is within who shouldn't be." he says more confidently. As if to prove it, he opens the door, pokes his head within, and closes it again satisfied.

Lief catches a glimpse beyond the gilded doors. He sees a grand entry hall with a richly woven carpet running from the doors to a large silver orrery - a model of the sun and the planets - quietly spinning in time. Frankly anything could be hiding in the shadows though with this damned darkness...

I've updated the map. Not a lot of room around the structure to place you. Ederin and Kaylayne are 50' back, the rest 100' at this time.

Lief looks non-plussed at the impediment, both of them. Swift Action- Ranged Study so turns away, loading a poison bolt, as he walks back a little ways. "Your orders are highly inconvenient to us. If you're prepared to die to maintain an already failed guard post," he nods to the other one, "then it's no wonder the sky seeks to claim you." He targets the obstructive one.

The fight is fierce, but brief. Damage done by the elves is insubstantial and unhindering. It’s almost like you're fighting persistent illusions. Very strange. Though they are strangely resilient, soon enough, you knock out both elves and the entry is quiet once again. The doors lie before you closed. I presume the party is now together at the entrance.

Lief moves to the door, listening for sounds, however faint, before looking to the others, and nodding. He opens one of the doors, and peers inside, with his Light.

I should add - the elves have substance. Persistent Illusion is a poor choice of words. They press against you, slash at you with their weapons, shoot their bows, and there is impact. Just not enough to damage the skin or even raise so much as a blister.

Lief brings his light to bear and opens the great front doors. His light dimly pierces the interior of this beautiful long hall. Deep within though, his light does pierce something - drow!

Kaylayne gets an action during the surprise round in which Lief opens the doors. Then onto round one.

With the doors open, all you can see inside are the far drow (green and purple). You'll see the others as you cross the threshold, so please play accordingly.

"Lief! LIEF!!" Kaylayne hisses at the impetuous boy. "Two things: one, I would appreciate if you would think about scouting before running ahead and two, if you start fights with our potential allies again, you we might have more issues. It would be good if you were to think of the team rather than your own impulses."

Kaylayne tries to keep her voice calm while lecturing Lief.

Allarnon rears back as Lief opens the doors so suddenly. Without having a moment to prepare himself Allarnon bounds into the room towards the green and purple drow. His eyes grow wide as he passes numerous drow.

"This place is crawling with em. They are like rats, pouring from the cracks in a cave!"
