He turns back to you, "You are welcome to camp on the grounds if you like. We will open the portal at noon, and it should remain open for 1-2 hours. So don't be late!"

Ederin gets as close as he dares to the gate before it closes, and peers through. It looks very real to his eyes, dimmed though they are by the foul light of this place. It looks like the last gate he passed through.

He squints his eyes to try to peer further into the wavering portal.

"Perhaps we will see what evil exactly turn or formed these elves."

Allarnon steps back in shock at the mention of the woods. "Isn't that near the village where the elves found me?"

Alas, my demon does not get away as he's cut down by Dimitrio and Allarnon. Remember though, that one of the demons did escape - apparently the leader of the group.

"Zirnakaynins," Kaylayne helps the be-tonguetied archer. "Zirnakaynins. I don't know what it means either. Still more questions than answers in this shadow land. However, if someone was going to be able to help us, it might be elves of Kyonin. Maybe."

"So, yet another reason to go through the portal. Hmm...if only we hadn't rushed here through the first one when we saw it. We might have had time to research more. Too late now."

Kaylayne looks at Lief.

"Any of that make sense to you?"

"Are we forgetting about Kaerishiel? Is he dead to us, then? Weren't we trying to finish off the remaining siege army at Celwynvian before they could regain their strength, and return, possibly with reinforcements?" Lief raises his shoulders, his body's gesture asking the others in honest frustration.

"We only knew how much time still exists in this demiplane by passing through. Does time pass normally here, or might it dilate or constrict, based on the creator's desires? I honestly don't know." He looks back on the closing gate, glad not to have to make a decision at the moment. When the elf speaks on notifying others, he inquires.

"'Zirnakaynins'. Who are those? Are they dark-skinned elves? Where are they located? We've seen demons about town, are you sure you want to go out there?"

Lief debates more. "This is a glimpse into the past, right? We're seeing what occurred ten thousand years ago, before Earthfall. If there was any real way to effect the future by coming here, it would have been done, don't you think? No, I think it's a spectacular learning tool, but the more I think on it, the less likely it is that the library book I 'borrowed' will exist anywhere but here. Likewise the people. Whatever Nolveniss has allowed to join him in here, that's real. That'll let our blood, like the demons. We've eliminated blast shadow, and several babau, all allies with Nolveniss, is my take. So we keep searching."

"We didn't see babau on the present streets of Celwynvian, while we attacked in our three waves. That seems to indicate that the gate has been open for some time prior to our arrival. I don't like that part, because it could mean that a larger contingent might still survive."

"When do we rest? Can we press on further today?"

Dimitrio nodded, resigned; he did not have a better idea.

"I'm good. Let's continue. You are right, kid. Who knows how time works here and how much we really have."

He then turned to Lief, "You gotta teach me demon talk or drow talk because I swear the demons were talking to each other back there."

The bard looked about, "Let's go to where there were lots of rubble back in our time; it was in the central-southern part of town. That's probably something significant here, right?"

The elf answers briefly, "Aye, but this is a strange time is it not? They are the Zirnakaynins. We had not seen their like before, uh," he seems momentarily distracted, but catches up with himself, "recently."

"Oh they travel the city. They spend a lot of time at the library, but they spend most of it at the grand observatory." Lief will know roughly where that is from his prior knowledge checks.

The elf begs off, "I have people to warn, if you'll excuse me, perhaps there will be more time to talk in the morning, or even this evening, but for now I must work. Excuse me." He gathers some papers and rushes off.

It's early afternoon of Wealday, 2 Rova, a long long time ago. According to Lief, the world gets hit on the 5th.

"If this is the Armageddon Echo, the elves told us the Drow have been retreating here every time they made a push into the city. It make sense that they would have demons already hangin' around if they been operatin' from here the whole time."

Ederin listens and then watches as the elf tries to explain himself and rushes off, shaking his head.

"I ask who these Zirnakayins are and he tells me 'they are'?" He chuckles a bit an turns back to the rest of the group. "I guess we're headed to the observatory then, yeah? I figure the kid wants to rush right in, but we should rest. Either Kaersh is dead already or they're keepin' him for some important reason. We've been running since this morning, would be dumb to rush in tired as we are."

Kaylayne shakes her head, looking at Dimitrio.

"You, dancer? How do you fare? Are you sure you have steps left in your shoes?"

Not sure what you're asking Dimitrio. I can't say if you need to rest now but yes, many daily abilities require rest of some sort. Some merely refresh each dawn or dusk (depending on your characters oddities) though it's usually dawn (and I assume dawn unless there's a reason to switch).

Looking at your header I'd say there's a problem there though. You list consumables, but it's not updated. I know you've used the ring of fire, and I'm pretty sure you've used some bardic performance, but you have everything listed at max. I'm assuming you're not updating your header, which is fine as I don't use it - as long as you're tracking that information somewhere.

Lief waves everyone to settle in for recuperation, although how they'll fare trying to sleep within a collapsing demiplane, well...

He finds a place nearest the doors, and falls asleep almost immediately. After two hours, he's ready to distill several fresh formulae, and watch over the others as they sleep for an irritating long time.

He keeps a loaded acid bolt next to him, as he begins combining reagents.

The Academy, closed doors if possible, for our rest. We get busy sleeping.

The elves won't let you crash in their building. They offered to let you camp on the grounds. So you can be near the front doors if you like, but you're in a small, wooded naturally, glade.

"You fight well for an otherworlder, Allarnon," Kaylayne mentions while creating water to clean herself in. "We would not have survived without your tough hide with us. Your bear, too, seems to enjoy the battle. He seems born into it."

Allarnon smiles weakly as he head begins to swim. All of the days events catching up to him at once and he seems exhausted.

"I never wanted to fight at all. I actually despise it. My elders dropped me off here in the middle of this mess though. I trust they knew what they were doing and are simply testing us."

Back in his human form he rests on his longspear, nearly falling asleep standing up.

The party makes camp in the cool grass. There are a couple hours before sunset, so you spread out a little picnic and relax a while before sleeping in earnest. It’s during this pleasant repast that the drow mockingly attack! They swarm from behind the building and close on your position in the forest.

Surprise round is them coming around the building and starting your way. I’m assuming you kept a watch and so saw them pretty quickly. For simplicity, you’re all standing, just chatting and sipping drinks or something. A cocktail party. :) No weapons are out, but at least you’re not prone. Kaylayne, you may act in the surprise round.

At the top of your rounds, everyone please roll a perception check, and for no particular reason, let me know if you can see invisible creatures.

Save or Suck, reminder:
As I think I said at the outset, but am going to say again in case I didn’t or we’ve all forgotten, I have a no save or suck rule in my campaigns. You don’t get sleep hexes and other instant-kill opportunities, and in exchange, I don’t hit you with save or die and other like effects.

I only bring this up because this scene originally called for an assassin who had multiple save or die opportunities to lay down on you. I like hanging by a thread, where the next attack roll might kill you. There’s a build up to that, and myriad ways to avoid it as you get closer and closer to the edge. That tension makes for good role play. Save or die does not.

Lief watches the ground erupt in foliage, so decides better in engaging the drow on their terms, now that Allarnon has established their own.

He steps up to the edge of the creeping green, and takes a shot at Orange.

Kaylayne launches fire at the poor drow and connects! Allarnon entangles the drow, hoping to pin them down. Lief steps up and shoots, but falls short.

A drow appears behind Ederin, her rapier slicing neatly between his shoulder-blades, or at least she hopes!

Allarnon turns to see that a couple of drow seemed to have escaped the mass of vines and weeds. Gripping his spear he spids around and takes off at a run towards them. As he bounds through the dirt his hands begin to change into sharp taloned paws. Heaving his spear into the ground Allarnon leaps into the air at the last moment landing next to Dimitrio. While in the air his spine twists and snaps as it contorts violently into the form more comfortable to himself. He swipes a sharp claw at the green drow.

Dimitrio drops blue with his first swing and puts the hurt on green with his second. Ederin targets green and hits! Kaylayne hits orange one more time. Allarnon attacks green, but as he’s pulling his punches, not all his attacks land - but one does. Lief readies an attack against the invisible, but the invisible don’t show themselves.

Nonlethal natural attacks:
I think they should be capable of doing nonlethal damage. Also, doing a little research on the boards this morning, it seems I’m not alone in that supposition. So yes, you can take the -4 to do nonlethal with your natural attacks. No problem. :)

The remaining drow do their best, at this point, to flee. First they must unstick themselves from the ground they walk upon.

Purple and Orange begin to move and get to the far side of the entangle field (though they're still in it). Pink reloads his crossbow...

But I think I'm going to call it there. The remaining drow are fish in a barrel. You'll kill two and capture one, plus Mr. Green who's also sleeping soundly thanks to Allarnon's nonlethal damage.

"Did one get away? I think I lost one in the battle," Wren asks uncertainly. "The spellcaster?"

Kaylayne looks around.

"We need a solution to the invisible opponents that harass us."

Kaylayne will bring over any items of interest from the dead drow, detect magic too. Kaylayne will fetish back her spell.

Dimitrio steps in front of Layne just in case she wanted to kill the drow that was just knocked out.

The bard turned to Allarnon, "Alright bear-man. I'm going to wake this guy up. Make sure you got him nice and tight. Do you do bear-hugs or something like that?"

Once the drow is awake, Dimitrio starts, "Ok buddy. All your friends are either dead or gone. I need you to answer a couple of questions..."

He starts speaking loudly and more slowly, his hands pointing to the drow and then himself, "Do you understand me? You speaka de common?"

Does this guy understand common?
Can I tell if he's from our time? Clothing, weapons, etc.
