I have been following charges and ticking them off my wands. We have completely burned through one whole wand and are halfway through the second. So almost burned through two whole wands.
CLW Allarnon: 8d8 + 8 ⇒ (3, 8, 6, 4, 6, 1, 8, 3) + 8 = 47
CLW Tarkir: 4d8 + 4 ⇒ (8, 5, 1, 5) + 4 = 23
With Liefs charges that drops us to 7 charges remaining on last wand. I threw the 21 charge wand in my tab to track.
Allarnon has the group tend to his and Tarkir's wounds as they continue to bleed.
"Are all the drow this sadistic and self-mutilate themselves?"
Before he gets an answer Lief hops through the portal to Allarnon's surprise.
We have little healing remaining. It is suicide...... His morals wrestle around in his head. I can't let him go alone.
Allarnon grimaces as he dives through the portal.

Ahh, great, thanks Allarnon. There should be another wand or two floating around out there. Might be Kaylayne trackin' it. We'll see in a week or so.
Ederin Valenta
Taking Dimitrio's suggestion Ederin grabs the last two scrolls and heals himself.

"And what are we going to do once we're stuck in there? Rout the whole army ourselves?" Ederin looks at his quivers. "Tossed nearly sixty arrows since we started this mess. I've only got about that many left. You really wanna go in without backup? If they have another corpse monster we're as good as dead."
The wand I had used earlier was Kays so I'd assumed she was counting charges before she left.
GM_Euan
Cool. Thanks Ederin.
Don't forget you have the elven lass Eilwen knocked out in the next room. Revive her and you can pass along any message you like before you depart.
Lief Anemoi
"So are we supposed to follow them through the gate? Shouldn't the elves be notified about this?"
Lief nods as he finishes his healing. "Good idea. The remaining elf, she should be safe for now, as long as she's fortunate to wait inside before reinforcements arrive." He continues through the portal.
"And what are we going to do once we're stuck in there? Rout the whole army ourselves? Tossed nearly sixty arrows since we started this mess. I've only got about that many left. You really wanna go in without backup? If they have another corpse monster we're as good as dead."
As he approaches the closing portal, Lief turns to address Ederin. "It should be safe, stepping through. We can hunt the remaining few who seek to use this as sanctuary. Whatever waits for us, it must not be given the time to strengthen. If Kaerishiel still lives, he won't survive if we allow the portal to close. It will only be reopened when they want it opened. Ederin, please. We don't have much time."
Lief sees Allarnon already advancing, taking that as sign for his commitment to enter. He looks to the others. If no further argument is raised, he jumps through.
Ederin Valenta
Ederin curses again, frustrated. "Fine, just let me grab some arrows real quick."
Running back to the burnt elves, Ederin surprises himself by saying a quick prayer to Erastil, asking him to vouch for the elves souls in whatever realm existed thay housed them. Grabbing enough quivers to restock, without leaving the surviving elf without any. He smacks her once with the wand they found in the last room and, if she wakes, he gives a quick explanation before he runs back to the portal. He let's the others go through before taking up his standard place in the rear, all the while wondering if this was the last time he'd see daylight.

Stepping through the portal is a dizzying experience, and it takes a few moments for the world to right itself. After a time, the surrounding elven city becomes clear, its tall, graceful spires rising up among manicured boughs of a well tended forest. Some of these buildings seem familiar, resembling those of ruined Celwynvian, but strangely restored and made whole.
Although this glimpse through time is convincing, something is off. Colors seem dim, sounds are muted, and the shadows appear strangely long and dark. Yet most disconcerting of all is the sky above - for it is nothing more than a vortex of gray clouds, spiraling around a dark blot in the sky similar, though much larger, to the one in Riddleport, though it’s hard to see through the haze.
Please note: -4 to all perception checks and all light is dim - even Lief’s pendant - so 20% miss chance without darkvision or the ability to see in darkness. Further, most spells with the light descriptor have their durations halved and they cannot be used to dispel darkness spells. Lief’s pendant is an exception to this rule.
As you gather your wits and take in the surroundings, you see an imposing figure - an elf clad in resplendent robes of muted green and silver. He does not appear to notice you as he is busy staring up into the sky at the vortex though he’s standing very close by.
Lief Anemoi
Lief takes it all in. The muted colors, the muted sound. It fascinates him for the first part of his observation, then it sinks in. "We're screwed. This has to be a plane set up just for drow. Look how the light dies so quickly! And yet..." He spots the distracted elf, which draws his attention up and to the Blot. He shakes his head, as it starts to hurt.
Knowledge(Planes): 1d20 + 12 + 1d8 ⇒ (16) + 12 + (2) = 30
Based on initial observations of muted senses, combined with the presence of a largely intact Celwynvian, is this an alternate universe, different plane, or Echo of time gone by...?

You might learn more after interacting with your environment. This is what you learn ‘at a glance’.
Lief Anemoi
"Alright then. The Armageddon Echo is something like the Plane of Shadow, but substantial enough to be woven from Prime Material. Interesting. If the drow created this, they must really be attached to Celwynvian, to have it here. They might have been able to portal into any place, if it were Shadow mixed with Prime. More questions here than answers, sorry."
Lief strides up to the green and silver clad elf. He speaks in Elven first, then Common. "Hello. My name is Lief. My friends and I are tracking enemies of ours. They are drow, a black version of yourself. Have you seen anyone pass through here? If so, why were you left unharmed? They are a vicious people."

The elf seems to almost stutter a moment as he looks at you, like he first looks through you before he realizes you’re there. However he recovers quickly and warmly smiles, ”Greetings gentlemen and lady... and, uh, bear. I’m Ilamin Silverwind and I am at your service.”
”Drow?” he mouths the word as if for the first time. ”I have seen dark skinned elves pass by here but they were not hostile. Perhaps a little rude in that they did not say hello, but I cannot fault them for that. This sky has us all keeping our heads down.” he grins pointing at the broiling clouds.
”What brings you to Celwynvian at such a time?”
Dimitrio Carini
Dimitrio shakes his head, "Ah f!~#, we are screwed. Big time. Even the boy doesn't know what the hell is going on."
He asks the elf, "So where exactly are we and what date is it?"
Is the portal something physical or is it something that just winked out into thin air?
GM_Euan
There are two tree-warped pillars at the 'head' of the path that connects to a road into the forest. You stepped through these pillars, though you don't see a way back. Certainly walking between the pillars doesn't take you back where you came from.
Ilamin replies with a date, in the common tongue though the date is on the elven calendar. I don't know the exact date on that calendar or I'd give it to you.
He continues, "You're in the great elven city of Celwynvian, jewel of the Mierani Forest." he continues amicably, "And where do you hail from?"
Lief Anemoi

Lief calculates, then pauses. Then he blanches. "Wait. What? That... that's not... Why? Why would they create the... for here... for now?! Wait..." The hamster keeps spinning...
Ederin Valenta
Ederin watches as Lief engages the robed elf. He has no idea what's going on but they seem to have traveled into the past.
"Armageddon Echo..." He thinks as he looks around. "Oh shit!" He shouts as something dawns on him as he looks at the sky.
"Lief, you think we're actually in the past mate? Or is this some kinda memory?" He keeps his eyes skyward and tries not to panic.
Dimitrio Carini
Still trying to figure out what's going on, Dimitrio asks, "OK so if this is the past, why is it so 'shadowy'?"
He then turns to Lief, "And you seem to be worried about something. I was out dancing during history class so what do you know and should we be worried?"
Allarnon
|
Allarnon stumbles back at what they are saying. "Are we stuck here? Will I never make it back home? We are doomed......" he says somberly.
Stepping he responds to Ilamin. "We are from the future. We came through a portal back to your time.This...." He says nodding to his surroundings. "....is all destroyed I am afraid. "
GM_Euan
Stepping he responds to Ilamin. "We are from the future. We came through a portal back to your time.This...." He says nodding to his surroundings. "....is all destroyed I am afraid. "
The elf looks a little surprised, but he goes along with it, "Yes, there are those who say this is doom-sign, but I disagree, uh, sir. This is but a momentary occurrence in the heavens. I do not know what is causing it, but it will pass in time. I'm certainly not evacuating with the others. They are but fearful of the moment. Youth." he shrugs and smiles.
”You should really visit the library, and speak to the head librarian Eloquan. He can give you much more information than I about such matters. He’s just down the road here…” he gestures to a building in sight - even through the trees, which are thick.
He gives you a look that seems to indicate, Is there anything else? before he waves and continues on down the road the other way.
Dimitrio Carini
Dimitrio was still in shock, "The library? Didn't we defend/attack this building in our time?"
He then moves towards the building, hoping the others would follow, "C'mon, it sounds like this Eloquan can tell us what's going on and help out..."
Lief Anemoi
Lief finishes his thoughts, as his friends disturb him from his reveries. He looks to each of them. "I don't know what possessed them to do so, but this Armageddon Echo has the unfortunate circumstance of being set in time, before Earthfall, roughly 10,000 years. The thing that has me at an utter loss is the calculation made from our new acquaintance," Lief gestures at the dull elf standing before him. "Based on his word, we're standing in the year -5293 AR, only a mere three days before the Starstone struck Azlant."
The young man looks up at the blackening sky, then back at the others. "The drow seem to have an interest in recreating the Age of Darkness, is my guess. A Second Age, 10,000 years in the future... well, in the present. Our Present. A Present that may have a dismal Future, if they succeed in pulling down more stars..."
As the elf suggests, Lief begins running, not walking, towards the Library. "No Kaylayne! This way! Remember?" He calls to the others, over his shoulder.
Allarnon
|
Allarnon takes off after Lief. "Why would they want to create darkness though? What does it benefit them to destroy the world around them?"
He looks frightened at the swirling sky before him.
This world is more terrifying than I ever imagined.
GM_Euan
Kaylayne starts down the southern path, drawn by something, but she hears Lief and begrudgingly follows him, and the others, to the library. Perhaps later…
The streets, really just wide paths in the heavily forested city rustle lightly in the warm breeze. The scent of lilac and other flowers drift along the same gentle air. You see a few elves here and there in the city, but it seems largely abandoned though peaceful. You are the only non-elves you see, and of course you see no drow.
The library, unlike in your time, is gorgeous - well kept and orderly. A small sign over the door reads, The Library of Reenai. No one seems to be using it at the moment, and you call out from the entry hall. In a very short time, from the northern chambers (where the spheres were) a slightly portly elf of some long years shuffles his way toward you. He brightens at the visit, ”My friends, please come and learn.” he says, somewhat automatically, but in earnest.
He invites you into the antechamber just south of the entrance where the spiders were. Now it contains a sitting and reading area large enough, just, for everyone to sit if they wish. You can see the main stacks further south, bulging with books and scrolls. Once everyone is comfortable, the librarian asks, ”What can I help you research today?”
Ederin Valenta
"Why would they want to create darkness though? What does it benefit them to destroy the world around them?"
"They survived it once already. Maybe they just want to drive the elves away again. Can't say I blame 'em, the elves seem pretty bent on their destruction an' it doesn't seem like it's just because of this scheme o' theirs.
Ederin follows quietly behind the group toward the library, he has nothing to ask the librarian and he's still not sure if he's actually in the past of if this is some sort of elaborate illusion. He keeps his bow ready, expecting to be surrounded by drow at any moment.
Dimitrio Carini
Dimitrio is clearly out of his element in the library but tries to strike a smart pose nonetheless.
He waits for Lief to start peppering the librarian with questions and sits attentively waiting for answers. He was most interested in how to get back to the present...
Lief Anemoi
"Why would they want to create darkness though? What does it benefit them to destroy the world around them?"
Allarnon's query immediates sets Lief's mind to sort out what the first Age of Darkness could tell them. Whatever he can recall, he recites.
Knowledge(History): 1d20 + 10 + 1d8 ⇒ (14) + 10 + (1) = 25
...
Arriving at the Library, Lief starts making an inventory of things they may learn from someone from this time. He starts to doubt, almost immediately. The elf on the street remains, ignorant of his plight. The librarian is likely the same...
"What can I help you research today?"
Lief remains standing, then approaches. "Eloquan, I presume? Nice to meet you." He extends his hand, and intends to shake the elf's hand. If the elf is tangible, something that could be brought from this Echo, it will motivate Lief to consider what else can be salvaged from the Library, the memory of the desecration still strong in his mind.
"You may not believe us, and we don't have time to convince you, but we are from the Year 4709, marked from Absalom Reckoning, or the Founding of Absalom, a great city of which you have no knowledge in your books. According to our time, you exist here in the year -5293 AR. The Blot above our heads here, it's something familiar to us, in both frames of time. In three days time, you will witness your own Armageddon. We have pursued an army into this city, and we need to locate them. Please tell us which buildings have been abandoned longer than three days."
GM_Euan
As the party walks, Ederin notes the length of the shadows and the heavy tree cover. You could hide an army in this city and no one would know. He grips his bow tightly indeed, but nothing jumps from those shadows as yet...
- - -
Lief’s knowledge of history is broad, but the age of darkness is, well, shrouded in darkness. He knows a meteor of some size, struck Azlant and ended their reign, as well as that of the Runelords. But what the elves and drow have to do with this is unknown and not talked about in the sort of history books he’s read.
His handshake is limp, but present. ”Oh yes.” he says somewhat frumpily as he drops his hands into his lap. ”We’re doomed.”
”Three days according to you. Some of our seers and scholars give us even less time, but by any honest reckoning the end is here indeed.” he looks up, ”But I shall defend my library to the last, so do not, as so many have done, expect me to leave at this late hour.” his tone grows somewhat warm and the blood rushes to his face as he continues.
”No matter what the event, there are things that make us more than mere elves. That transcend life…” he goes on for some little while espousing the greatness that is elven culture and history, and the other things that lie within his tomes and spheres. Eventually, he comes around again.
”But enough about me. You say you’ve traveled in time? Really? How did you manage that? Seems like such a thing would be impossible - or at best a one way trip…”
Lief Anemoi
"Allarnon, no. Don't get him started again on elven culture. There is no transcendence here, only the inevitable destruction of a continental landmass." Lief looks at the library, then turns back to Eloquan.
"What would you see survive here? We don't intend to stay here, but return to our former time. We could try and bring priceless tomes back to your elven culture that actually does exist 10000 years from now. Or, you know, possibly even you? We're going to have to reopen the portal, somehow, to exit this Echo. You could try and come with us."
If Eloquan only has pontification, Lief moves into the Library itself, and takes a closer look at the archives, trying to place tidbits of information he may be able to relate to Crying Leaf, once they return.

"We came through a portal controlled by the dark elves.....er..Drow. How exactly does one become more than an elf? Transcend life as you will?" Allarnon says with a confused look.
”Drow? I do not know that name.” he presses on though, happy to have an audience for his beliefs. ”A single elf cannot transcend life, at least not naturally, but a community can. They bring their culture, their history, their essence and combine it with others to create something grander than any individual could accomplish.”
He opens his arms, ”This library for example, though I am it’s caretaker at the moment, is greater than me, or even the city it lies within. It is history. The knowledge of ages can be found here.” He smiles, nearly weeping, at the thought of what lies at his fingertips. He is clearly passionate.
”There were some dark skinned elves here researching.” he looks thoughtful a moment. ”Now, what were they after… My mind seems to slip a little these days, I cannot remember exactly, but I may be able to pull the same tomes if you give me some time.”
"What would you see survive here? We don't intend to stay here, but return to our former time. We're going to have to reopen the portal, somehow, to exit this Echo. You could try and come with us."
The librarian laughs, ”I do go on don’t I? No, I shall remain, as shall the library. Something will survive, of that I have no doubts.” he says as a true believer, ”Nothing shall be removed from here.” he says firmly.
As Lief wanders to the stacks, the librarian follows. "Looking for anything in particular?" he asks helpfully. It is clear he's fine with you looking on your own, but he's also eager to help if he can.
Dimitrio Carini
Dimitrio was just trying to be practical... and save his own skin.
"Listen, old man. You are in grave danger and we are going back to our time. You have a few options. Either you come with us or give us something something to take with us. That's it."
He was feeling pessimistic and signaled the butterfly wings over his heart. "Desna, show me a sign. I don't want to die here. Not in this time. Not yet."

The older elf smiles, "So very few of us get to chose the manner of our deaths. I'll take mine standing up, protecting my library, rather than as a doting old fool with few teeth and fewer brains, drooling in my stupor and old age on a bed somewhere wondering if I did the right thing."
"So I'll take neither of you choices, but I thank you for your kindness and consideration." He seems committed.

"So I'll take neither of you choices, but I thank you for your kindness and consideration." He seems committed.
Dimitrio did not give it a second thought, "Fine. We have no time to convince a stubborn old man to leave his life calling. Suit yourself."
He turned to the others, "So, how do open up this portal?"
He neared Lief, "Lief, you said to follow you, that it would take us to another place. You never said another time and with a death sentence in three days. C'mon buddy, think. You got us into this mess..."
Dimitrio diva coming in 1, 2... :)
Ederin Valenta
"Relax Carini!" Ederin rolls his eyes at the bards panic. "Being rude ain't gonna help us get out o' here and we knew damn well Lief had no clue what we were steppin' into anymore 'an we did."
"You're right though, I feel like we're wastin' time with this one. Don't seem to be any more informed than we were when we stepped through."
He shrugs, not sure what to do. Scholarly pursuits didn't hold his patience on the best of days, it certainly didn't seem worth his time now.

"Relax Carini!" Ederin rolls his eyes at the bards panic. "Being rude ain't gonna help us get out o' here and we knew damn well Lief had no clue what we were steppin' into anymore 'an we did."
Dimitrio scoffs, "Relax, Carini. Really Shorty? You got some magic wand up your ass that we're not aware of? 'cause we just stepped through time. To a place that's gonna be utterly destroyed in three days. And you want me to relax?"
He shakes his head, "The drow! I mean the dark-skinned elves. Surely they know what's going on a have some sort of getaway plan. We gotta find the drow."
He turns to the librarian, "So where are these dark-skinned elves, old man? Think."
Lief Anemoi
"Lief, you said to follow you, that it would take us to another place. You never said another time and with a death sentence in three days. C'mon buddy, think. You got us into this mess..."
Lief looks to Ederin as the man speaks for him, nodding. "Yeah, I agree that we didn't have enough time to seriously weigh the options, but Master Nolveniss didn't want us pursuing him, leaving us a Pain Taster to block our chase. He needs time for something, and we need to deny him that time. He's also the one who can reopen the portal, since he uses it. He was given this pocket of plane to witness Earthfall. Or he made it himself, which means we need to be very careful, regarding his magical ability. Well, perhaps not, since he needed part of the Cyphergate to construct this one. So he might not have the inherent power, but knows how to focus it..." The young man rambles on a little bit, while he wanders among the bookshelves.
"Do you have anything relevant to the creation of alchemicals?" He continues to review book titles.
Lief walks up alongside Kaylayne, while the librarian reviews his keepsakes. He lowers his voice. "You once sent me quickly to the roof, in pursuit of the lab rat. I need you to do the same to Eloquan, as soon as I give you the sign, alright?"
GM_Euan
He turns to the librarian, "So where are these dark-skinned elves, old man? Think."
"Oh, I don't go to them, they always come to me. I haven't left the library in some time..." he trails off as if trying to remember the last time he left the sacred building.
He shakes his head, "But of course, like I said, I might be able to gather their research for you. Just let me know."
"Do you have anything relevant to the creation of alchemicals?" He continues to review book titles.
"Oh yes, that's a new field here. Very promising. Still, we have some research here, let's see..." The librarian wanders off among the racks.
Lief walks up alongside Kaylayne, while the librarian reviews his keepsakes. He lowers his voice. "You once sent me quickly to the roof, in pursuit of the lab rat. I need you to do the same to Eloquan, as soon as I give you the sign, alright?"
"I don't even know if it will work on someone who doesn't want it to." she hisses back. "At best, I'll move him to the sphere room to give you time for your evil deeds." she compromises looking distinctly nervous about the whole thing.
Lief Anemoi
Lief looks at Kaylayne with a bit of irritation. I didn't want to go to the roof, but I didn't not want to go, either. "Alright then. That may be enough."
Lief returns to talking with Eloquan. "You mentioned the dark-skinned elves and their research. Yes. We would very much like to see their interest, and the tomes you can retrieve."
The young man moves to speak with Allarnon, Ederin, and Dimitrio, discussing the need to leave abruptly, once Eloquan is suddenly 'not there', based on the collective experience of the group with Kaylayne's shifting away individuals suddenly.
Lief will spend a good amount of time reviewing what Eloquan produces. He communicates all that he encounters that may relate to the drow presence in the Library.
Among the tomes, he'll pick the one that 'feels' the most important, and leave it aside, waiting for a moment when Eloquan passes back and forth to reseat the rest of the books. When it seems possible for Lief to signal Kaylayne, he does so, holding onto the prime book, and moving immediately to the exit.
GM_Euan
Lief returns to talking with Eloquan. "You mentioned the dark-skinned elves and their research. Yes. We would very much like to see their interest, and the tomes you can retrieve."
”Of course.” Eloquan spends the next couple hours hunting down books - and find them he does. While the tomes discuss the mutability of the shadow realm in detail, the more recent books are of interest as well. They concern the heavens and what is said to lie above, including stars, planets, and meteors. One of these tomes even describes powerful magic that might be used to manipulate these objects from afar.

When it seems possible for Lief to signal Kaylayne, he does so, holding onto the prime book, and moving immediately to the exit.
As the party grows restless to move on Lief nods to Kaylayne, and the other takes Eloquan to the sphere room. You hear his cries of surprise from the other end of the building.
In the ensuing discussion there is some consternation as to what, exactly, happened, but Lief is able to ‘pocket’ a rather large text on the Alchemical arts. Eloquan seems flustered by the entire event, and blames ”Talgoren’s people”, but he does not suspect the party. If questioned he reveals that Talgoren is an Azlanti, and that he blames their kind for the coming destruction.
The party leaves the library and finds themselves on the streets once again. It is past lunch.
Allarnon
|
"Still doesn't explain much. Just more questions as I am even more confused now. " Allarnon says as he sits down on the ground finally relaxing and getting a good look around. "This place is like a forest of stone! So many structures." Shaking his head he refocuses.
So you think the drow want to control the sky? Perhaps we should speak with this Talgoren?"
The tales back home didn't go into any of this.....this time travel. i have no clue what I am getting myself into.
Ederin Valenta
Ederin startles awake when he hears Eloquan shout in surprise.
Guess the kids plan worked. He thinks as he rubs his eyes and gets up from his resting place.
"We already knew this was their plan. Does any of this actually help us at all? My eyes hurt from trying to seem damn near anything in this realm, can we work on getting home?"
Lief Anemoi
Lief adjusts himself, still worried his new acquisition can be seen from its back slot in his backpack. "I'm not sure who Talgoren is, or where he might be located. My guess is that he's not here, in Celwynvian. Won't hurt to keep our eyes peeled."
Feeling safer on the streets of the city, Lief looks about. "So the drow searched for material on great powers, for us now ancient powers, for the goal of affecting distant bodies through magic. History, and being doomed to repeat it, yeah. Well, it's now your turn, Ederin. We hunt." He points up and down all the streets they can see from their current position.
"I get the sense that Celwynvian is the extent of our search. I'm not sure what would happen if we tried to leave the city, as it's the focus of the Echo. Perhaps we can look for some kind of bubble perimeter."
Lief looks at Ederin. "We need to locate Nolveniss. He's here, likely hiding out in one of the buildings here. How do you suggest we continue? How would you locate an army? Biggest building first?"
GM_Euan
Probably the largest building, next to the one you just left, is the Academy of the Arts building. That’s the one you stormed this morning and it lies to the east in the heart of the city.
You are near the edge of the city and decide (just to clear things up a little) to try Lief’s plan. You leave the city and head into the forest, following an old animal track. You loop around a tree or two on your way north, and end up re-entering the city in roughly the same area you departed.
You try this a few times to be sure, but it’s clear that wherever you are, it’s a small place, just encompassing the city of Celwynvian and a few dozen yards into the forest.
Dimitrio Carini
Confused and in a despairing mood, the bard looked at his feet.
"Ok so we are trapped in this... place?"
He shook his head, "How the hell are we going to get out if we can't find the drow?"
Dimitrio Carini
Dimitrio looks up to possibly the largest building in this place, the Academy of the Arts building.
"Isn't that where we took the old elven lady to?"
He then realized his mistake, gulped, and answered his own question, "No, it's not. It's where I almost died with the flesh golem made of elven corpses."
He shrugged, "Well, at least we know the layout and it is the biggest thing here. That's our next target. Let's go."
Allarnon
|
Allarnon nods nervously. We need to explore quickly. We have three days to figure out how to get back through that portal....
Urging Tarkir he quickly bounds off in the direction of the Academy of Arts.
Though I don't much want to open the door to an entire drow army either.
His fur shakes a bit as he shudders at the thought. The elders are going to punish me for this. If I even make it back.

As you walk down the lane toward the Academy of Arts building, there’s a rustling and a few Babau Demons (image) appear from a side building. They’re pushing along a shadowy skeletal form (image) before them. When they see you, they push the creature in your direction gleefully. It seems to be fighting their commands like a misbehaving dog until it senses you, when it spins around and attacks!
Burnt pieces of flesh still cling to the charred bones of this walking horror. A pale light and thin wisps of smoke issue from cracks in its body, as if an inferno hides within, barely contained by the scraps of melted armor and gear fused to its flesh. Two burning orbs peer out from where its eyes should be, and a trail of smoke rises up from its skull. The thing reaches out with gnarled and twisted claws that glow with intense heat.
Surprise round - Kaylayne may act. You can ignore trees on the map. There are some, but not as many as are shown here so I’m going to ignore them. You’re in the road of the city, which is pretty open.
Kaylayne takes out some stones and prepares them for throwing.

Dimitrio decides to strike at the blast shadow while he waited for Lief to yell out information on the demons.
"C'mon, boy. What do you know about these demons? Anything?"
He then held his breath due to the smoke and struck out at the thing attacking the bear.
