Thanks for selecting me!
There were lots of great submissions!!

Hi! Thanks for the invite. I don't see the Gameplay to dot, but favorited the GM post so I don't lose it around :)

The worst part about these recruitment is decision paralysis. You know that you're going to have to eventually let people down. It's a growing experience...
Anyway, welcome all, I agree, this is going to be fun. I usually have little time to post on weekends, so expect updates to come more often during the week. I do not have much expectation for your guys' posting rate, but if, for some reason, I need to bot you frequently during combat, I ask that you add some botting guideline in your character sheet. If you want to add one even if you have a high posting rate just to be sure, that's fine too.
I ask everyone to double check their sheets so that I can take another look before we start. As for level up hit points, we'll be doing half of max rounded up, which also includes our level 2.
I'm going to add an extra house rule here. Since the entire initial purpose of this game is for me to exercise encounter choices in terms of balance, there may be encounters that seem too easy, and others too hard. Considering that I may want to push some limits, I don't want to worry about going too overboard and killing a perfectly fun and good character. However, I don't want to use Hero Points because those have many uses. So I'm introducing another mechanic which I'll call Plot Armor. Basically each PC has 1 Plot Armor Point and at any point where the character would die, they can expend their point to "not die". This could mean they stabilize at exactly 1 damage before hitting negative Con, or a save vs. a death effect turns from failure to success, anything that is appropriate. We can add some fun fluff like some lazy writing in a movie to represent the in universe use of the point. Each character can have a maximum of 1 point, and it only refreshes at level up.
So, if you guys want to coordinate knowing each other previously, this would be a good time to do it.

Thanks GM! I like the "plot armor" idea. Especially from a character that would be fairly hard to heal (like mine :P)! At least until I get some wands, spells, items, etc. that will make it more possible.
Could you give us some context as to where we will start, circumstances, etc.? I'd love to tie some backstories and throw some cues so this info would help.
For anyone wanting to find some links/ties, Li Mui has a basic concept/backstory in her profile. Happy to work with you guys!

Thanks for the plot armor point. Included that in the header and my hit point total is adhering to the rules you stated.
Earlier you stated we’d be Pathfinders starting in Absalom so I’ll assume we’re meeting the other pathfinders in the Grand Lodge? Or we potentially have seen each other before? Or even had a mission together because we’re already 2nd level?
Li Mui
Adventuring together before may be an idea, but I do like the dynamics of learning what each other is capable of as well. Yet, maybe they could all be Pathfinders coming back to the lodge after adventures, and splitting from their previous parties into a new mission with this one? For example, maybe Guzzlah lost their whole party and is the sole survivor. Or everyone else in Radana's party went for vacations after a long trek in which they found Rashk on their way back, and Radana decided to stay with Rashk to pick a new mission. Li Mui was maybe grouping with a bunch of old men that decided to retire to care for their tulip garden. I don't know, mostly spitballing here :)
I made Li Lawful Good as the whole party seems to be good - and I like the angle, which also allows her to dip on things like monk or even pally at some point.
I was originally confused with Cyrano - as he seems to be antipaladin. However, his sheet says CG (which would mean he lost all his paladin powers, as Insinuators would still need to be evil). For now I'm just assuming he's somehow good and doesn't care about losing all his divine powers (like divine grace/unholy resilience, which I assume is why he dipped into it).
I like runes
I think Cyrano's alignment in the sheet is just mistyped, or it was copied from another character and wasn't updated.
So, the only thing I'd ask in terms of background for the Pathfinder Society is that all PCs aren't exactly widely successful in the organization. You could be new recruits without a lot of successes to count, or you could be a long time member that hasn't really delivered, or maybe a long-time employee, like an assistant quartermaster or a cleaner, that has only recently decided to become an adventurer.
The gist is that early on you're going to be recruited to do some work for a nepo baby venture-captain who's trying to make a name for himself. For each PC personally, this could mean fast tracking their career getting close to a potentially high profile leader, or it could mean following clear, unambiguous orders that surely will benefit society at large. And we'll go from there!
I'll set up gameplay in the next few days.
Radana Alaris
And I think it’s a good idea that we actually only heard from each other but get to know each other during play.
I also realized that Radana’s alignment is wrong in her sheet as NG, because Irori is LN so she was supposed to be true neutral as alignment.
Li Mui
Sounds like a plan!
@GM, will it be a problem to have more extreme aligned good and evil characters in the party? PFS usually avoids it by blocking evil (and antipaladins!) but as we have a bit more freedom, I imagine it could be okay. I just want to make sure that we're operating in a healthy manner between the players, as I had some bad experiences in the past with tasteless conflict.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
@Li Mui: I agree, we should try and keep things civil. I'd like to avoid PvP as much as possible. To be honest, I know Cyrano's player from another game and they're the chillest player ever, so I doubt this will be a problem. Being Pathfinder agents should guide the group to a common goal, even if there could be fun banter happening. If anyone feels uncomfortable with any part, I encourage you to let me know and I will shut it down immediately.

Hey, I think you have leveled your character to 3rd level?! We should be 2nd level, right?

BAB Class +2 Size +1= +3 to my overall BAB
though I did find my to hit was off, as I doubled my size bonus, and adjsted accordingly. Also have no Traits. So that will be fun to suss out, as I had them written down but now can't find them
As the GM indicated, small size gives a +1 to hit, but also a -1 to CMB AND -1 to CMD. So it’s not BAB that adds to everything.

Oh, Yes, Cydric is evil.
In a very pragmatic, affable and professional way. He is out chiefly for his own benefit, but he is, other then that, not particularly greedy.
Here is is Antipaladin code (he technically can pick and choose, daily, which outsider he is propitiating, which can be one step away form his alignment, so NN deities like Pharasma are options, and if he knows he is going up against the undead he totally would ask Pharasma, in his daily ritual, for assistance. If the propitiates something Neutral Neutral he could smite chaotic evil or lawful evil enemies, note, his smite is a bit weaker, he doesnt get the AC bonus and only gets half his antipaladin level as bonus damage), more or less:
Violence is my profession. As such, I dont do it for free. This includes not doing it for no reason, or for petty reasons such as being looked at funny. An oversupply of violence reduces my rates!
Cohesion is important in combat, my allies, if they are worthwhile, are signifcant assets and should be treated well and protected, so that they will protect me and treat me well as well.
Competence is what matters, not birth or race or faith. The inept and the competent exists in all societies, and to ally with the competent is always prudent
Never trust them devils,
or anything they say
they always stab you in the back
just to get their way
the only thing thats worse is their
SHIT SUBSTANDARD PAY
So I need to raid some more.
This is an excerpt of the roughly 20 stanzas long galtese song called *battle hymn of the republican mercenary bastard* it interestingly enough exist in multiple planes, and one other version is this:
Battle hymn of the mech warrior by the black pants legion
Glory is to be mine, it can of course be shared with valuable allies, so that their glory will in turn also be partly mine, but my acomplishments will be recognized

Cydrics possible pathfinder missions where:
--Investigate rumors of demon cult activity
Outcome: Party found out 2 horny teenagers trying to summon a Succubus. they let them off with a warning, a talk of how expensive litheria blossoms are and a free language lesson in Abyssal. It was perhaps the closest to a good act Cydric ever did.
--Train an outlying village to better defend itself
Outcome: Cydric thought them military and guerillia tactics. Too succesfully perhaps for they, after defeating an orcish raid, later declared the short lived people republic of dave, and lynched a tax collector. Cydric claims he had nothing to do with that, but his pay was docked. The peoples republic of dave was then quickly subjugated by the local baron.
--Investigate a ruin
Outcome: Cydric killed a few Zombies, and discovered a nice magic item. Which he had to sell to have enough money to get cured from some type of undead fungus disease he contracted.

In terms in invocation, he has pretty good kn planes and religion, but is limiting his invocations to "affably evil" evil deities.
As such, his go to "propitiate" list:
Neutral evil:

https://www.aonprd.com/DeityDisplay.aspx?ItemName=The%20Green%20Mother
Lawful Evil:

https://www.aonprd.com/DeityDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Malacoda
https://www.aonprd.com/DeityDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Eiseth
Chaotic evil:
https://www.aonprd.com/DeityDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Nocticula
https://www.aonprd.com/DeityDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Haagenti
Neutral Neutral:

https://www.aonprd.com/DeityDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Mrtyu
https://www.aonprd.com/DeityDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Pharasma
https://www.aonprd.com/DeityDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Phlegyas
He is a bit of a ladies man when it comes to his deific choices, which is completely in character for him.
He could have a few problems with necromancers (he likes Pharasma, and would consider a late life conversion, after his adventuring life, because Abbadon isnt a fun place to be, and actually serving her interests would make this more plausible, he also had some unpleseant run ins with the undead), and dislikes devils because Galtese, which doesnt neccessarily stop him from trying to use them. Malacoda is literally a bastard (like Cydric himself is), and Eiseth is more his type then Ardad Lili.
He has enough main character syndrome (in his head) to make such choices based on "which evil deity do I think is my type".
Radana Alaris
Hey! Insinuator is a great archetype, especially when choosing Neutral Evil as your alignment. :-D
Cydric de Bergerac
Yeah, the irony is that most undead are NE, so choosing Pharasma doesnt actually help with smiting them :).
Other then green mother and Ymeri, (and kind of Norgober in 1 of his aspects I guess) there doesnt seem to be that much affable evil that I would see a mercenary going for.
I will end up taking a bunch of odd dips, and probably wont have a single class higher then 4.
I do however look forward to shenanigians with the item mastery feat chain, I may get the ability to dimension door once a day suprisingly early.

Yeah. I have the CMB and CMD correct. I just keep the +1 in the BAB or I forget to add it,

May she get better quickly!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh, while Cydric is dimly aware that he pings on some detect evil variants (depending on what he is propitiating) he does not exactly consider himself "evil".
"Its called enlightened self interest!"
"I think the psychopomp who I see when I opt Pharasma, unfortunately only I see her and she doesnt seem to be really there, likes me! And psychopomps wouldnt like anyone evil!"
Pharasma may or may not run a call center like thing for insinuators. And the probably Almuuths manning it are just polite and professional.
"What are you looking at Mrs. Paladiva, yes, I did propitiate the multiverse current record holder for most demonlords killed, that why you see an aura, yesyes!"

I tried to explain in Gameplay, but basically, as a construct Li Mui can't be healed by natural means, and if she's under zero HP, she's destroyed permanently with no "ress" possibility.
She carries Mimic Fibers with her, and as an alchemist she can craft more (and will; just didn't want to abuse it before game starts). This can be used to heal her.
The eidolon "temporary" hit points can be healed normally, and it's the pool she will be using until it's closer to 1 eidolon hp. She can also heal it with her spells.
She has a trait that allows her (once per day) to be "brought back to life" if she's destroyed. It needs to be done at the immediate round she's brought under zero HP; if her mimic fibers or any other type of repair brings her over zero, she survives.
