Our group chose to run Starfinder and chose 1st Edition. We have a player making a character and chose Icon as a theme.
I saw the Luninary playtest and checked to see if it was an update from 1E.
Sadly, as is frustrating with new editions, it’s unique to 2E. Our friend saw it and said it was perfect for his character idea and I wish I never showed him because now he’s upset he’ll never be able to play one.
I wish there was a company who wrote backwards compatibility game material. If only we had the Luminary for 1E.
Should he just be depressed about it and get over it or is there some group out there that likes to professionally convert 2E to 1e?

1e witchwarper might have some mechanical overlap. Their Infinite Worlds class feature has some nifty debuffs that could be reflavored appropriately.
Is... something holding you or, more importantly, your friend back from 2e? 'Never be able to play one' is awfully strong language when there is a very clear fix for this particular problem.
Edit: Scratch that, just read through some of your post history. Clearly you have a bone to pick with 2e. Its sad that you're not willing to give 2e a try so your friend can play a class they're excited for. Hope he can find a table willing to accomodate.

- I checked Pathfinder Infinite, and it doesn't look like there is one. That's where a professional conversion would be. If that were to happen, though, I would expect it to not be until the class is in a finalized form.
- I don't know what kind of money you've got to put towards a professional conversion, but you could reach out to someone whose conversion work you liked on Infinite and ask to commission a conversion.
- Your friend can probably find an SF2 group to try it out. Just because your group doesn't play SF2 doesn't mean your friend can't! The playtest runs for more than another month, and is legal to use in Starfinder Society for the playtest. That's also a good way to find a second permanent group. Other alternatives include keeping an eye on the Starfinder Discord recruitment.
- There's always a non-professional conversion where you work with the group to homebrew up something together.

Just to put it in perspective, the last rule book for Starfinder 1e came out in October 2023. Paizo has never done anything backward combatable. Not sure if anyone will be able to officially publish backward material for Starfinder 1e since SF1e and SF2 use different licenses. The main reason SF2e came out was to get Starfinder off the OGL license and move to the ORC license, after the OGL scandal caused by WotC.
Paizo tends to do class playtests a year in advance, so we won't likely even see the finished Luminary class until 2027. I don't remember ever seeing someone do an unofficial conversation of a playtest, but most community conversations I've seen done one direction or the other tend to get posted to one of the 2 Starfinder Reddits
If you want to try it on your own or let your player do the work, since they are the ones who want to play it, E1 and E2 use completely different core math; there's not a formula you can use to do a simple 1-to-1 conversion. If you Google, "how to convert a Starfinder 2e class to Starfinder 1e?" You'll get a checklist of things that need to be converted.
Side note: The Luminary playtest seems to be under-tuned, so you likely don't need to worry about a conversion breaking the game.

Hey everyone! While we on the team won't officially make a conversion for the luminary for First Edition, QuidEst is right here! Once the class is officially released, the likelihood of one of our Infinite Masters doing a conversion rises exponentially! It's absolutely not off the table, so please tell your player not to lose hope! Just check back in once it's out officially!
