Can I release a hand from a 2h firearm and then regrip through reloading?
As the title says: can I release a hand from a 2h firearm, do something with that free hand (as battle medicine for example), and then reload (with regrip) and shoot?
To be more specific: would this following chain of actions be valid?
\- Release (free action)
\- Battle Medicine (1 action)
\- Reload (1 action)
\- Strike (1 action)
Thank you.

Answer is yes, infact reload requires one of your hands to be free to begin with.
Reloading a ranged weapon and drawing a thrown weapon both require a free hand. Switching your grip to free a hand and then to place your hands in the grip necessary to wield the weapon are both included in the actions you spend to reload a weapon.

There might be a case for not allowing it if Reloading a weapon required wielding the weapon to begin with.
But as far as I can tell, there is no such rule (I'm sure someone will correct me on that if I am wrong ;). From the look of it, there isn't even an action named "Reload" - only Interact. Reloading a weapon uses Interact actions. And those can be done on held items, unattended items, or even items that allies are holding as long as they are within your natural reach. So there is a pretty good argument that you could reload firearms in any of those locations too.
And yeah, the regrip at the end doesn't depend on benefiting from the free release at the beginning.

The argument would be "You can draw, pick up, or hold an item that needs two hands using only one hand, but you need to subsequently change your grip to hold it in two hands if you want to wield or use it." IMO, reloading would fall under using it. The counter argument would be that "Switching your grip to free a hand and then to place your hands in the grip necessary to wield the weapon are both included in the actions you spend to reload a weapon" is a more specific rule.
