Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

So what is with the random spam post all over the Product Discussion Page?

Like almost every single page had the same random spam post (I did flag them as spam)

But I have noticed that this has been a recent issuse.

Any one have theories?

This happens basically every weekend when the mods aren't here to zap them as soon as they appear. It's worse than usual but not unprecedented.

Thanks for flagging all of those. I banned all of them, but I suspect they'll be back with new accounts soon. The banhammer will be waiting!

Paizo's forum architecture isn't exactly bleeding edge in terms of moderation tools, bots are better at getting past sign-up verification steps these days, and Paizo doesn't have a huge incentive to hire 24/7 moderation for stuff that will be cleaned up on Monday. I just note down the more entertaining spam for Starfinder inspiration, and then flag.

Yeah, I flagged a bunch yesterday that were in 19 different threads.
It was slow at work. ;-)

It's been happening for years. They crop up when Paizo staff take off for the weekend.

I found the profile and flagged all 19 also. What was interesting to me was that the profile had chosen an avatar image, and also pasted the content of the posts to their profile. That some…strange… dedication.

Hey, who wouldn't want a love curse by Swami Somethingsomething. :p

Sometimes the spam is amusing, most of the time it's annoying.

The most important things to note (as I understand it) are:
1) If the bot started a thread, do NOT post in it. Just flag it and move on. As I understand it, if we make posts in the thread it is harder to clean up and remove (no I don't understand why, but I believe it's been said by Paizo IT before).

2) If the bot posted in a thread started by a person, don't quote them or anything. Again just flag and ignore. Otherwise, again it's harder to remove.
