Necrotic Bombs & Thralls

Necromancer Class Discussion

Lets combo Create Thrall & Necrotic Bomb together... Oh no my Mastery of Death & Life turns the void damage to vitality, no not all my Thralls I just made around the enemy!

Why does this work like this?

Most AoE effects does friend fire. You need to consider this before use as normal.

This maybe be play style issue but if I am putting a lot of thralls near enemies it's probably to save my allies and actions to flank and that isn't the situation I would use necrotic bomb which I would probably use by placing a thrall next a several enemies and detonating on the spot.

By the fact that your Thralls would normally be immune to the void damage but your class features changes it to vitality damage is kinda silly.

That's hilarious.

I mean, yeah, I hope Paizo fixes that, but still funny.
Unless they meant it? Hmm.

You're not really incentivized to place a ton of thralls in the same place unless you're trying to block squares or combo with something like the cone AoE.

This interaction strikes me as both intentional and good, since it helps put a cost on blocking off squares.

Over time you kind of are, since it seems like you can't re-use thralls for Strikes, there's a decent chance if any thralls last the round that you'll have to put another down nearby to get your next attack in.

I don't know if I think you should be able to and have them offer flanking.

You could have half a dozen or more on the field later and that means your potentially offering off-guard to your entire party and can pick and choose every round who you attack with this benefit, from personal safety.

So I can see why they wanted the limitations
