Where's web?

Is there a Remaster equivalent of the web spell? I can't seem to find one for my cleric of Grandmother Spider.

I'm pretty sure there is no new one, just the old one.

Is there a reason that the one in the Core Rulebook won't work?

Similarly, Laughing Shadow Magus gets Mirror Image as their level 7 Studious Spell...

Entangling flora is the spell o think you are looking for. They had to leave the narrative of webs behind I think.

Web's an OGL casualty, I believe. Can't have any iconic D&D spells providing the foe with legal ammunition.

Even if we took the mechanics and described the tangling plants as webs, the traits are still all wrong.

I'd call that more equivalent to Entangle than to Web.

I assume that whatever spell clerics of Grandmother Spider get in the Remaster will be laid out in the forthcoming Divine Mysteries book in November.

Since currently "Grandmother Spider" is legacy content, so I would just use the legacy spell.

I also think Web isn't making a return, chiefly because the Followers of Fate in Monster Core list it as one of their devotional spells, but Web doesn't offer a page number from PC2, and it isn't in PC1. It's possible the page number was omitted on accident, but it's more likely the spell got left in by mistake.

I'm not sure how it would possibly have an accurate page number to a book that hasn't been finalized yet.

Not disagreeing with the conclusion though. I'm just thinking that lack of page number to a future book is not significant evidence.

I am almost positive I t remember James Case saying entangling fauna replaced both entangle and web. The mechanics are almost the same. The narrative is intentionally not web like.

Entangling Flora is a better spell, because you can't destroy it like you can web.

Give them Insect Form (Rank 3) instead.

Fair, but we've seen references to other options that appear in PC2, and they are always notated as such. They'll say something like (Appearing in Player Core 2), or something similar.

And also to be fair - that is a lot more significant evidence.

Entangling Fauna is horrifying, amazing, and being added to my ever-growing list of homebrew things.

I regret nothing.

I don't want to necro this thread, but, OH WAIT yes I do. Web has been reprinted in Player Core 2 after all, as an arcane/primal Spell 2. The argument about avoiding trademarks doesn't matter much in this case, because even Hasbro can't trademark a single real English word.

Except... it's terrible. Web is just straight up worse than entangling flora in every way. It's much shorter range, it's a much smaller area, it can be destroyed by people successfully moving through it or wielding torches, AND it's 3 actions instead of two. And for all these disadvantages, its effect against anyone who manages to fail their save (or Athletics check!) is... exactly the same.

What is the point of this new spell? Did Paizo just forget that they'd put entangling flora on the arcane list now? Web seems to be just plain a trash spell. It's honestly worse than the 1st-rank grease, because it's easier for enemies to get rid of; the only advantage is that it's bigger.

As far as I can tell, it isn't a new spell. It is a straight reprint of Legacy Web spell.

So I doubt that anyone at Paizo forgot that Entangling flora exists now, or doesn't notice that it is an upgrade. It was likely reprinted as a result of threads such as this one.

Web forces a save or check for EVERY MOVE ACTION, as opposed to entangling flora's ONE SAVE PER ROUND. That's a pretty significant detail to have left out. Try to Stride through it? Save. Try to Stand in it? Save. Try to...

  • Balance
  • Board
  • Burrow
  • Climb
  • Cover Tracks
  • Crawl
  • Disgusting Gallop
  • Drive
  • Drop Prone
  • Fly
  • Gallop
  • Hunt and Gather
  • Hustle
  • Leap
  • Maneuver in Flight
  • Mount
  • Prepare Campsite
  • Run Over
  • Sand Stride
  • Sneak
  • Squeeze
  • Step
  • Swim
  • Track
  • Travel
  • Tumble Through

    Save, save, save!

Still doesn't make up for it before you get the 4th-level heighten though. :P

Ravingdork why don't you give grandmother spider an Ancestry feat that allows her to do a natural web like a giant spider.

I dont give offerings to false gods.

If you meant to say "Mother" then that is because no such feat exists insofar as I am aware.

  • That's the last time I try to spend two hours hunting and gathering or to prepare a campsite in combat, I tell you.

Maybe the entire area is covered in permanent Web spells :p

    hehe
