Wizards who do not specialize (known as as universalists) have the most diversity of all arcane spellcasters.

Hand of the Apprentice (Su): You cause your melee weapon to fly from your grasp and strike a foe before instantly returning to you. As a standard action, you can make a single attack using a melee weapon at a range of 30 feet. This attack is treated as a ranged attack with a thrown weapon, except that you add your Intelligence modifier on the attack roll instead of your Dexterity modifier (damage still relies on Strength). This ability cannot be used to perform a combat maneuver. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Intelligence modifier.

telekinesis can throw one weapon per level.

i had a character with 9 greatswords and a ring of telekinesis (cl 9) just for this.

do note that since they are simultaneous attacks sneak attack can only be used with one of the attacks. but it was supercool having 8 swords attack from the front and the ninth impale through the enemy's back...

Here are a few "hovering blade"-themed spells for you to check out, that I can think of off the top of my head:
- Twilight Knife
- Wreath of Blades
- Mage's Sword

Mind sword paladin gets the equivalent of hand of the apprentice, but at 6th+ level can use it for multiple attacks per round and at 12th+ level can mix melee and ranged attacks.

For a wizard, the sword binder archetype gains some additional benefits over a universalist with hand of the apprentice: increasing range with level (Close, instead of fixed at 30 ft), can use it to deliver touch spells instead of making a weapon attack at 5th, and can make a weapon attack as well as deliver a touch spell at 8th. With a dip in titan fighter and levels in eldritch knight*, can use a Large nodachi (for the crits) to both smack opponents and deliver touch spells at range with a decent chance of hitting at higher levels.

*- probably titan fighter 1/sword binder 6 or 8, then alternate eldritch knight and sword binder levels until sword binder 10; ending up titan fighter 1/sword binder 10/eldritch knight 9 at 20th level

Aaaaand my campaign has a new villian.

Telekineticist can both throw and enchance the held weapon (careful about damaging it).

Warding Weapon can set a flying weapon to protect you (Don't provoke AoO for casting a spell).

Some intelligent weapons.

Ectoplasmic Hand, Spiritual Ally, Hedging Weapon, etc.

Careful if you let your players use the ritual after defeating the boss.

GM fiat these:

- the text gives weapons 10 hardness / two levels which makes no sense
- what action does it take to command your own and other's weapons
- how many weapons can they realistically have and keep combat fun (I've pushed it to 11 weapons / caster before the backlash kills the caster, but that was for a Kingmaker army)
- do the weapons use the player stats at time of casting or current stats (do new feats apply to old weapons, ability bumps, and other such)

if your gm allow (or you are a gm) there is a 3rd party class that specialize in this kinda thing. i never played with it so i can't tell if it's balanced or not.

the Bladestorm

these are all great! thanks everyone! to give more insight on what I'm doing, is i want to be a tiny telikinetic fox with a sword floating next to me. it just has a fun/ny image to it :)
