Well, maybe the Pathfinder wiki is all wrong then: "Barbarians are uncivilized [sic]".

Here's the Gazetteer (Erik Mona and Jason Bulmahn) description of the Barbarian class: "Barbarians are a misunderstood lot. Much of this confusion comes from the wide variety of barbarian lifestyles. While the tribes who rule the Lands of the Linnorm Kings follow the ancient traditions and rites of their ancestors, making them among the most “civilized” barbarians, their brethren who wander the wastes of Sarkoris are little more than monsters, attacking and devouring anything that crosses their path, be it man or beast."

Or maybe it's not that the wiki is "all wrong" but rather that the wiki statement is sourced from the 15 year old Gazetteer entry which PREDATES both Pathfinder and Pathfinder 2e.

That statement was written for use with the Pathfinder Chronicles setting for D&D 3.5. Perhaps we should assume that the base assumptions for Barbarians in PF2e are stated in the text of PF2e and not things communicated for a game that ceased publication 15 years ago.

Let us look to Robert E. Howard for barbarian inspiration. He loved the idea of the barbarian.

Quotes from Conan

Quote:

Barbarism has its vices, its sophistries, no less than civilization. Your cynicisms and sophistications are weak and childish beside the elemental cynicism, the vital sophistication of what you call savagery. If our virtues were unspoiled as a new-born panther cub, our sins were older than Nineveh.

~ Possibly Howard's last complete story; first published in The Marchers of Valhalla (1972).

I love this quote too:

Quote:
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.

I just think berserker sounds cooler.

Which is important. The other reason for choosing a name is customer appeal. If the fans like the name it helps sales. If they don't, it will hurt sales. Berserker and Barbarian are pretty close in value in this regard. If they weren't a change wouldn't have much of a chance. None of the other suggestions so far seem appealing.

You know, I must have stepped into a portal created by an Eldritch Horror at some point when I am actually agreeing with Rysky on something.

Someone call the Pathfinders and get to the bottom of this madness!

Just breath into this paper bag and it'll pass...
