Can an all Charisma party be done?

Advice

This may get a little convoluted but please bear with me.

A traditional party of 4 consists of

  • Fighter
  • Rogue
  • Cleric
  • Wizard

I am asking this question because I saw a 'Best 5th member' question that got me thinking, what if that 5th member for a Skald Court Poet only boosts Charisma. Can an entire stereotypical party benefit from it?

  • Desna Fighting Style Melee
  • Unknown Charisma Rogue?
  • Oracle
  • Sorcerer

Are there any Charisma SAD Rogue-like characters that can fit that party role?

An all-CHA party is very easy to do. Use a paladin in place of the fighter, and an archeologist bard for the rogue. The bard will not be completely SAD as he will need some physical stat for combat.

I thought the whole point of having high charisma was not having to worry about combat. That’s what minions are for.

There are more sneaky bard archetypes, or some cha based vigiliantes, or a sworn of the eldest inquisitor (these are CHA based) that can comfortably fill the skill monkey but charisma role.

You could also just go lord of the dance build and use perform dance for pretty much everything.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

What you call a "traditional party" is like the tradition of marriages being arranged by the parents, with the bride and groom only meeting on the wedding day. It is a primitive, outdated custom that has absolutely no place in the 21st century.

On what I think (or at least hope) you're actually interested about, a well-functioning party solely consistent of charisma-based classes is absolutely possible.
• Paladin/Antipaladin, Bloodrager, Swashbuckler, Medium, Summoner, Feyspeaker Druid, and Fractured Mind Spiritualist can easily provide a melee presence.
• Sorcerer, Oracle, Psychic, Seducer Witch, Elder Mythos Cultist Cleric, and Feyspeaker Druid can provide full casting, if that's desired. cSummoner also de facto has full casting.
• Bard, Skald, Mesmerist, Magical Child Vigilante, Sworn of the Eldest Inquisitor, Fractured Mind Spiritualist and (again) Summoner come with plenty of skills.
• Oracle (especially Pei Zin Practitioner), Skald, Paladin, Elder Mythos Cultist Cleric, Seducer Witch, Razmiran Priest Sorcerer, and Feyspeaker Druid provide condition removal (and remember that UMD is charisma based).

Mysterious stranger gunslinger is a reasonably effective class for being CHA based and having pretty nutsy DPR output, but its more commonly chosen as a DIP (you get limited times per day CHA to ranged damage at level 1) then as a full class (a bit like Steelblood Bloodrager archetype)

The other strong contender for specialist CHA based DPR at range is Desnan CHA to everything shooting star build, as the whole "pew pew pew from range" was kind of missing from OPs list.

It is totally valid to be a Bloodrager/Pally, take a dip in mysterious stranger and suddenly have a way to hit touch ac at range. All you actually need is quick draw, for both switch back to mellee and for cycling through, at the level you do the dip, relatively cheap muskets/whatever.

Damn, forgot Scaled Fist unMonk for melee! And of course, most of the gish work well in melee, too. For example, I have a Wyrm Singer Skald with Desna's Shooting Star and Lesser Spirit Totem in my current group - strong, fun, and very charisma focussed. Although the quirk that the spirits use the party mamber's BAB but the Skald's charisma would be worthless in this party.

It's not really hard to come by, which is why I didn't include it, and becasue you don't need a ranged damage dealer. But in addition to what you mentioned, Sorc works well as a blaster, and some of the mentioned classes (Paladin, Bloodrager, Medium, Sworn of the Eldest Inquisitor) make fine archers.

Overwhelming Soul Kineticist is heavily charisma based. With one of the energy based kinetic blasts that hit on touch AC you don’t need a whole lot of dex to be effective.

Eldritch Scion Magus is Cha based.

Yes.
