How would you go about making a pure shapechanger sorcerer?

Advice

Silver Crusade

The idea is that the character in question makes a pact with a particularly powerful doppelganger, giving them the ability to not only cast powerful magic but also completely alter their body in any shape they wish. Now to make the most of this would mean a primarily melee combatant and i would like to know how i can go about this without necessarily prestiging if possible, if that's out of the question then what would be the best prestige class for this kind of build?

The Shapechanger bloodline sounds like it's exactly what you're looking for.

Make your character a kitsune and take the realistic likeness feat.

Yeah but should i really be taking a half bab, D6 character into melee? Even if im souped up by polymorph spells?

You will probably have a rough time before you get polymorph spells. Getting into the Eldritch Knight prestige class would help your BAB and HD a lot.

Would I qualify for eldritch knight if i was like perpetually using the doppelganger form with monstrous physique?

Me-thinks, Deific Obedience to Haagenti, or possibly Xhamen-Dor, would be mighty fitting. Haaggenti's 3rd boon from Demonic Obedience, and his 3rd Exalted boon from Feindish Obedience, both grant you the Shapechanger subtype. Xhamen-Dor's 2nd Sentinel boon also gives you the Shapechanger subtype.

Have you thought about a Brown-Fur Transmuter Arcanist? Or Beastmorph-Vivisectionist Alchemist? The Alchemist is at least 3/4 BAB, since you expressed a desire to participate in melee whilst transformed.

What race? Skinwalker? Kitsune?

Have you looked at Shapeshifter Style?

I want this to be a build where anybody can theoretically get it. Also i'm kinda dead set on a shapechanger sorcerer, specifically an eldritch scrapper.

You could go with Cross-blooded archetype in addition to Eldritch Scrapper and take the Arcane bloodline to get a familiar. If you give the familiar with the Protector archetype this will effectively give you an additional 50% HP which will increase to 100% at lvl 10. Taking the Exotic Heritage feat will let you take Wildblooded bloodlines with Eldritch Heritage. The lvl 9 power from the Pit-touched bloodline will give you an inherent bonus to constitution. That would help with surviving combat somewhat. Focusing on Natural attacks as opposed to weapon attacks will offset low BAB a bit. Rather than going strength based you could go dexterity based with weapon finesse and an Agile amulet of mighty fists. A dex based build will also help with AC as well. Another option would be to go VMC Barbarian to get Rage if you are set on a strength based build.

Polymorphing into a Doppelganger, while thematic, is not a particularly combat effective form with only 2 claw attacks. I would suggest using Monstrous Physique to take the form of a Euryale. This form gives you 6 primary bite attacks with a 10 foot reach. With Lunge you would have 15ft reach. Keeping enemies at a distance will certainly help with survivability as well.

This literally screams Dragon Disciple Sorcerer from a mile away.

Go crossblooded sorcerer to get Dragon + Shapechanger bloodlines to really ramp up the dragon form's power into Dragon Disciple. You can still use polymorph and all tge other spells, but your dragon form would be the strongest.

You can theoretically also go Kitsune Nine Tailed Hair in exchange for not having bloodline spells. This makes it so you can get all those Magical Tail goodies.

A bit unorthodox and not quite meeting the "pure sorcerer", however it would fit extremely well with the "Doppelganger giving you powers": 3 or 4 levels into Vigilante...

Now hear me out, there is a very good reason for this suggestion. At level 1, you can grab obscurity to make it so you are less known (or some other social talent if you don't care). At level 2, you grab Malleable Flesh this grants the shapechanger subtype, the compression ability, and at will extraordinary Disguise Self (you physically change your shape). At level 3, you grab Seamless Shapechanger giving you +20 on disguise when using polymorph spells. If you so wish you can go to level 4 to get Morphic Weapons or Tiger's Claws, the former grants natural attacks even if you normally wouldn't get them while the latter lets you get Shifter's Claws.

The end result is that you become a Shapechanger without being a Kitsune or Skinwalker, while getting full bab, and being overall better at changing shape.
