How many grenades can a ysoki fit in their cheekpouch?

Rules Questions

How many grenades can a ysoki fit in their cheekpouch?

A ysoki can fit 1 bulk in their maw.

10. 10 items= 1 bulk.

19. .1 items round down all the way up to .9, so 19 grenades= one bulk it fits it ships.

Are starfinder grenades the size of a modern day grenade that we think of, or are they tiny little discs like mass effect 1?

How obviously holding a bunch of grenades is a ysoki with their cheek pouches full of grenades?

Ysoki can store up to 1 cubic foot of items weighing up to 1 bulk in total in their cheek pouches.
So I would say 10 grenades since its up to. With no physical size mentioned for the cubic foot side, I would go with the 1 bulk.
I can see the call for 19 grenades with the item bulk bit
Every 10 items that have light bulk count as 1 bulk, and fractions don’t count—so 10 items with light bulk have a total of 1 bulk, and 19 such items also have a total of 1 bulk. Items that have negligible bulk count toward your bulk limit only if the GM determines that you are carrying an unreasonable number of them.
So would be a GM call. What I am curious though, if you fit a multi pack of grenades of various types, how does the Ysoki know the difference? Do Frag grenades taste different to Dye grenades?

I'm going to take the radical stance that 1.9 bulk is more than 1 bulk.

Since fractions/decimals are dropped, it actually isn't.

Add together the numerical bulk values of all items you are wearing and carrying to determine the total amount of bulk you are carrying.

So, per the example from the actual rules, 19 Grenades are actually 1 Bulk and therefore could fit in a Yosoki's cheek pouches (assuming they don't take over 1 cubic foot of volume).

Liberty's Edge

The answer is 19, 100%.

One COULD make the argument that this shouldn't be allowed but since Grenades do not have their actual size/dimensions described and that RL meatspace grenades would be far too large to stuff that many in a 1 cubic foot space, but that's all going to have to be up to the GM.

As always in these situations, it's better to ask "is there a reason to disallow this cool player option" than "do the rules explicitly permit this cool player option." So: is there a reason why having 19 grenades in your cheeks would be worse, from a gameplay or balance perspective, than 10?

I can't think of any, off the top of my head. You can still only spit out one per swift action, so it's not letting you like, draw infinite grenades, or attack with them more often. You can disgorge all of them at once, but, that's just...a pile of grenades at your feet. It's just a squishier, more moist, efficient bandolier, except you still have to carry that bulk.

So - it's a flavourful species thing you can do, that doesn't really harm the game. No reason to disallow a 19-nade game of chubby bunny, imo.

Ysoki PC's Player: Okay, so I have a whole crate of grenades. I'm gonna shove 10 of them in my cheeks.

GM: Yep, that's 1 bulk, that's fine. You stuff your cheeks full of grenades.

Ysoki PC's Player: Great.

GM: Great.

Ysoki PC's Player: And then I shove another 9 grenades in my cheeks--

GM: Wait--

Ysoki PC's Player: --because grenades 11 through 19 possess neither mass nor volume till I stick a 20th grenade in there.

GM: exhausted sigh

The first 9 had no volume or mass either until the tenth one went in.

At what point does Ysoki's face not fit through a narrow doorway?

I mean, they're made for medium sized creatures anyway...

There's got to be plenty of automatic sliding doors in a Scifi setting just waiting to catch a full cheek pouch...

reflex save: 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 3 - 1 = 13
just made it if it's a slow door, otherwise "Ouch"

A Ysoki has 2 cheek pouches, they hold a combined 1 bulk. To hold 19 grenades would one side be larger, or are the cheek pouches connected, or would 19 get rounded down to 18?

Rodents don't throw up. Not sure if they have a gag reflex, maybe they could hold one in the middle?

Wayfinders

I could see one in the middle but might make it hard to talk, but might also give a +1 bonus to intimidate.

Would a Ysoki evolutionist at 20th level end up looking like a contemplative but with a giant cheek pouch instead of a brain?

Random thought: A Ysoki with a face full of grenades or other metal objects likely lives in fear of giant magnets.

I've had a ysoki stuck to one of those. Fortunately they had an active life bubble and no nudity taboo (they stripped out of their armor)

After reading the title of this thread, I can't help but be reminded of a certain sentient owl who was asked a very similar question in regards to a tootsie roll pop.

And his answer remains valid to this day: the world may never know.
