Hi my fellow RPGers!
I'm just trying to gauge interest - would anyone be interested in playing a Star Trek-themed campaign here in the boards?
The group will be the bridge officers of a Miranda-class (Science vessel) Federation ship in the year is 2369 (towards the end of TNG and beginning of DSN, before VOY).
Some things will happen on the first mission that will throw the group for a loop, not exactly the same but kind of how the VOY crew got stuck on the Delta quadrant.
In terms of system, I won't use any. If we have to roll anything, I will simply call for a percentage of chance based on the details of the background of the person.
What I mean, therefore, is that this is mostly an RP-heavy campaign, with mostly Mind's Eye and I may throw in a tactical map if truly needed.
Characters will be created heavily based on their background, and I may ask for some more specific details like rank, specialty, main skills, quirky skills, etc.; race-wise, most people should be human. Other human-like races may be okay, but I will refrain from anything too unique like Data or Odo.
Players aren't required to have Star Trek knowledge, but honestly it would help - and probably would be more enjoyable too.
Creativity will be the main thing here.
If this is something you'd be interested in being part of, please let me know. If I feel there's enough interest I will open recruitment.
Thanks and Happy July 4th!

I'd be interested as well.
If you're looking for the bare minimum of an RPG, may I suggest Lasers & Feelings?. It's literally a single-page RPG with a Star Trek theme created by John Harper, the guy who created Blades in the Dark. It would provide a way to resolve situations where its more exciting if the outcome is uncertain.

What about a human engineer who is secretly a member of section 31?
I love DSN most of all because of the splendid long-form story telling. It's one of the few arc-centric shows, unlike LOST, GOT, X-files, BSG, etc. that really sticks the landing of the finale and is great to re-watch. That 10 part finale is one of the best things ever on TV in my opinion.

Unfortunately it's a no for section 31 (or Maquis, or anything of the sorts), but we're still not recruiting or anything. I'm still gauging if there's enough interest for me to see good backstories - so far it seems we have about 7 people, which isn't encouraging, but I will let the interest check run for this week to decide if I will open a recruitment or not.

Are you saying 7 is too few because you assume that most won't start or finish characters, or that you're intending to potentially run a game with 12+ players or something like that? I'm going to have to tentatively withdraw interest if it's the latter and we're thinking about a group more than 6 -- I respectfully don't think that would work at all -- I think 4-6 max works in my experience of DMing on these boards.

Ok people, thanks! Recruitment thread is up; if we get at least three solid applications we will be a go. I will take up to 5 or 6 people assuming their applications are solid enough.
