Summoner - Act Together Question

Rules Discussion

From what I read on the forum the Act Together thing is getting you an extra action? Maybe its just me but I don't find that. It's just says that one is taking some actions and the other one takes one too. It doesnt state that its an extra action or do I read it wrong?

Act Together has one character perform an activity of variable length and then the other character performs one action.

So you can use Act Together to Cast A Spell and then your Eidolon can Strike.

That's three actions worth of stuff for a Two Action activity.

Yeah I get the intend but why isn't stated like that? My group is one of rule nazis and they might argue that it could be one the the normal action because its not stated that the addional action is free!

Nothing that gives more economy for its cost states the extra actions are free. You don't make a Monk spend three actions for its Flurry do you.

Activities do exactly what they say and are self contained. If an activity tells you do to x+y, then it does x+y for its cost.

It is sort of stated like that? The game tells you how many actions the activity costs and tells you what it gives you.

Sort of like how Flurry of Blows gives you two actions worth of stuff for one action. It doesn't specifically say the second strike is 'free', but it doesn't need to because it's subordinate to the one action activity that FoB is.

It is one of those "it does what it says on the tin" scenarios. Your misinterpretation would literally make ActTogether pointless as they already share actions, also rules "nazi"'s tend to focus on literal reads, not intent based reads meaning you aren't in any real risk here. Intent is clear, and the text is literal / direct.

Ok, thanks folks! I hope it works like that ;-)

One more question on that topic... When I use Act Together for the Eidolon attack (e.g. draconic frenzy) and I want to use the additional action for boost Eidolon (because I want to use 3 offensive actions on the Eidolon for example) does the boost count for the attack that runs simultaniously?

It doesn't specify in which order the actions happen. Therefore, it leads me to believe that they happen in whichever order the summoner player desires.

I'm still a little confused by this as it lists Act Together as a 1-3 action ability.

Do these examples all work and in any of the examples are there any left over actions to use?

Scenario 1:
Act Together
(Summoner: Casts 3 action Magic Missile + Eidolon: Strike 1 action)

Scenario 2:
Act Together
(Summoner: Electric Arc 2 actions Eidolon: Strike one action)
Then
Eidolon Strike

Scenario 3:
Summoner: Casts Boost Eidolon 1 Action
Then Act Together
(Summoner: Electric Arc Eidolon: Strike)

Scenario 4:
Act Together
(Dragon Eidolon: Breath weapon 2 actions Summoner casts: Shield One action)

Any other suggestions of what action combos work and don't work?

Thanks!

All of your examples work. Scenario 4 has one action left over. Meaning you or the Eidolon can use a single action activity (stride strike step etc)

Keep in mind that the only thing you won't be able to do is to use 2 actions ( one you and one your eidolon ) which cost 2 action each.

For example, if the eidolon uses its breath weapon you won't be able to use electric arc. If you cast a 2 action spell, your eidolon won't be able to use a 2 action spell or its breath weapon, and so on.

Thank you for helping clear that up!

I have a question about scenario 1, if Act Together states a 1/2 split, how do we cast a 3 action magic missile and strike once?

Act Together doesn't state a 1/2 split. It states one action must cost the same as the actions you spent on Act Together (in example 1's case that would be 3) which covers the 3-action Magic Missile, and the other is a single action, the Strike

While Baarogue is not wrong, I will state it in a different way that makes more sense in my brain.

Act Together is an activity wherein one of the two (Summoner and Eidolon) uses a 1, 2, or 3 action activity; and the other of the two uses a 1 action activity. The action cost of Act Together is of equal cost to the activity with the greater number of actions.

To also help simplify understanding of a turn in which Act Together is used (but not any other tandem action)...

Between the Summoner and Eidolon they get 4 actions for the turn. However, each of the two must use at least 1 action. AND only one 2+ action activity can be used.

I sincerely hope that is helpful.
