Shrink me!

Advice

I am playing an aether kineticist, and while i am already small, and a whopping 1'10" i want to be even smaller! (I am a vine leshy) i was wondering how much making an item (preferably a ring) that would reduce me permenantly would be.

an item with Reduce Person would reduce you by half.

https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/r/reduce-person/

Cost wise, is a lot, due to it being permanent....

Reduce person is a spell which is a valid target for Permanency - 2500 gp plus the cost of getting a 9th level wizard to cast permanency and someone for the reduce person. About 3000 gp all up.

As an item the starting price is pretty low assuming CL 1 - continuous would be 1 * 1 * 2000 gp = 2000 gp. This could get modified a lot though - reduce person adds to attack rolls and AC, and as in the examples you could get socked with a 10K price or more.

The best way to price it would be to find something that does something similar.

The closest comparison I can quickly find is the Juggernaut Pauldron's, which do enlarge person permanently, plus some other stuff. It costs 20k.

I don't know how to price the add-ons, but I think 10k for a permanent reduce person is in the right ballpark.

The Gown of Graceful Pettiness is 3500 GP and can be worn to grant a permanent Reduce Person. It does not Grant the size bonus to AC, nor does it shrink items on the person. This is the best baseline item I can find to "compare". I'm in agreement with those above, I think 10K is in the right ballpark for a "Ring of reduce person"

Aren't Vine Leshies plants, not humanoids, though?

Honestly, that restriction matters a lot less to me from a balance perspective than getting a right priced item that would provide permanent reduce person.

Maybe you tack on an extra 20% to remove the humanoid restriction.

The type restriction does block the 'cast spell then cast permanency' plan that I suggested, true.

The Exchange

Spelunker's Mail is a 3.5 item (Second Darkness) that reduces your size for up to 10 minutes per day regardless of your type (in addition to being +1 slick). 10,000 gp.

Working on the price from scratch, let's see...
charm monster is three levels higher than charm person. So let's use that for our spell level for the hypothetical reduce monster spell.

4(spell level) x 7(caster level) x 2000(continuous) x 2(minutes/level)
=112,000

That seems a bit excessive.

How about 26,530? That's the price to go up to a high level wizard and say "please take this 25,000 gp diamond and wish I was permanently reduced."

I looked into Leshy Warden Druid and any possible answer with Diminish Plants and Shrink Item, but to no avail. Leshy Warden allows you to become a Small Plant, but not tiny or diminutive.

I'm pretty sure you're going to have to create your own custom item or see if you can work with your DM to pay an additional 20%~ to remove the humanoid requirement and do a Reduce Person/Permanency spell like Claxon and avr are talking about. Or go with the more expensive version Belafon suggested and buy a Wish.

bolding mine

ok, this item (the Gown of Graceful Petiteness) came up during play and it raised several possible issues... though in the description of the item it does say it does not grant the size bone to Dexterity, it looks like it would grant the other size bonuses (+1 to AC, +1 to Hit, -1 to CMD and CMB, +4 to stealth... and possibly a -2 to strength)

additionally, other items like this that don't list a duration for an effect have been errata'd or "clarified" to have short duration - normally of the spell it is built off of.

The hat of disguise and ring of invisibility FAQ for example, as well as Mistmail that got nerfed back in 2016...

so, if it works like Mistmail or the hat of disguise, then giving it a duration of 1 minute would render it pretty useless... as it takes a minute to don/activate.

Does anyone know if there is an FAQ or anything on duration for the effect?
